Woot-woot only 10 days to go!!
Best wishes to all you folks getting banded in the next couple days! I am envious. Five more days of pre-op diet. Yuch!
-
Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Just finished day five of very low carb/high protein diet. Eating about 1100 cals/day. Five days to go and then surgery! Doc said goal is to eliminate glycogen stores in order to reduce liver size. I am pretty hungry but taking it a day at a time.

Eating alot after surgery
Wow sci gal, that's amazing. I have to be on liquids for 3 weeks and then mushies for 3 weeks after surgery. No "real" food until after my first fill at six weeks. The band area needs to heal so be careful!

OK, Fellow New Years Knockouts
Congrats Chrisann and Happy New Year! Glad you are through it and recovering.

Help im New
Welcome GB-- there are a few threads below that specifically address adding a ticker, etc. Just read through them and follow the directions and you'll be fine.

Wow! Is that my liver shrinking???
Welcome aboard! You're going to do great with the band. All we New Year's Knockouts will! I'm on Day 4 now. Today is going well and thank goodness my DW is there to help me with the meal prep. etc. I went too long before eating lunch and really felt myself lose energy (and get cranky). Keep the Protein high-- that's a key to making it through this. We're playing cards tonight and there will be LOTS of food and drink so it will be a challenge for sure. Jim

Wow! Is that my liver shrinking???
I wasn't able to find it among the LBT smileys (perhaps just missed it) and since I already had a sig pic I had a hard time figuring out how to add the boxer. Finally had to save it to an image hosting site and then it let me insert it in my sig from there. As i said in another post that may be more difficult than it needs to be, but it seems like I often take the long way around things. You ought to see me try to fix the plumbing!

It's Official: New Year's Knockouts
This is probably more difficult than it needs to be, but if you save the image to a site like mediafire you can then copy the link and do a "insert image" in your signature.

Wow! Is that my liver shrinking???
That is awesome Chrisann! Can't wait to hear from you on the "other side." I am finishing up Day 3 and doing fine. Not easy, but OK. Keeping the Protein going along with lots of liquids makes a difference. BTW-- thanks for the boxing smiley. As you can see, I have "borrowed" it from you. Jim

Help! Im having second thoughts.
Hi Jeremy-- Your preop diet sounds unconventional to me. Just three 2 oz. cups of pudding? How do you get Protein, nutrients, etc.? I'm on day 3 of my preop diet (surgery Jan. 7). I have much more than you and am still pretty hungry so I understand you must be really struggling. Are you sure you got the diet right? Hang in there! Jim

Wow! Is that my liver shrinking???
Here we go! Day TWO of my "10 day incredible race to shrink my liver" diet is underway. It's going pretty well so far. Can't say I'm not hungry, but I'm keeping my eye on the Prize, eating lots of Protein and drinking gallons (well--seems like) of Water. Protein seems to be the key in fending off major hunger. I'm tracking everything at thedailyplate.com and I had 161 grams of protein yesterday and about 1100 calories which is probably 20-25% of norm for me (no sugar--very low carb). I've done this sort of thing before and it usually gets a bit easier after the first 2-3 days. Hope that's true this time. I can feel myself shedding liquid already as well-- my wedding ring can actually move around on my finger. This is doable as so many before me have shown, but I need to take it one day at a time. My doc once told me that the 40s is generally one's "decade of decision" and that we reap what we have sown after that. I lost large quantities of weight 2-3 times in my 40s but turned 50 in September at nearly my highest weight ever. In the last few months it has been amazing how the aches and pains and heartburn, etc. have cropped up so I'm hoping to get things turned around with my new best band-friend. We're all gettiing close-- will be fun to share our experiences and encourage one another. :clap2: Hang in there. Jim

Life Changes Tomorrow!
Pre-op diet, and things will never be the same. Can't believe it's here. We're all in this together so good luck everyone! We had an Italian Creme Cake from the Cheesecake Factory for dessert on Christmas. I think there may be one piece left.... no sense in letting it go to waste, right? Or is that waist?

Would you do it again or choose another option?
NewSho-- what a great testimony. thanks-- very encouraging!

Surgery date- January 10!
I did not have to have a psych. eval. I am a self-pay though and I don't know if that matters.

"Ticker" Instructions/Help
I've seen a couple of questions by folks wanting to add tickers to their signatures. Here are a couple of threads that will help you out: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/i-want-download-tickler-46306/ Trying To Conceive Ticker It's fairly simple, just read through and follow the instructions. Good luck!

Starting Two Week Pre-op Diet
Hi Chrisann-- I am no expert, but I think breads, crackers, cookies, white rice, corn (starch), etc. are indeed carbs that your body (liver)will break down and process as sugar. "White flour" type stuff is a no-no. Besides reducing liver size, once we "detox" from sugar (I understand that takes a few days), blood sugar stabilizes and we experience less hunger and fewer "spikes." That's the theory anyway, as I understand it. I have been on very low carb diets in the past and they worked remarkably well short-term. Unfortunately, I love carbs (not sweets so much, but any kind of starch) and the weight piled back on as I began to eat them again. I'm counting on the band to help me restrict my massive over-consumption. Jim

Starting Two Week Pre-op Diet
I don't know if this will help, but my doc explained that the goal of the pre-op diet is to reduce the size of the liver by eliminating glycogen stores. We do this by eliminating sugar--not just sweets, but virtually all carbs. If you must supplement your liquid diet, I'd say stick with lean protein. That will help fill you up and will not add sugar to your system. I know it's hard and I'll be in the same boat in just a few days. You can do it--this too shall pass! Merry Christmas!
