    African American Sleevers

I've found that people whom don't know about the procedure tend to be judgemental and think you are taking the easy way out... But once I explained to them that I've done EVERYTHING to lose weight and that I am now 260lbs, prediabetic, have hypertension and high cholesterol all at the age of 30... And I explain to then what I have to go through to be approved... It changes their mind. You also have to tell yourself that you're doing this for yourself and that people will always have an opinion. Good luck!!!
  2. Ummmmm what's a bariatric card??? Do tell!! Do tell!!!
  3. I just want to tell you, as long as people know you've had this surgery, they will criticize what you eat, so you might as well get used to it... Lol. I used to get mad at first, but I just realized that people are nosey..... And most have no filter.! As long as you know you're following your plan, keep it up!!! Good luck!!!

    African American Sleevers

I exercise now about 4 times a week.. It's funny I feel like I don't know what to do anymore.. I feel lost.. I need to pack away the scale and not think about it for a week or more! I've also decided to take a scale break for 30 days and focus on eating right and getting my exercise in... The scale hasn't moved for me in 2 weeks... So frustrating, but God has a way of making you see the upside of things... I went shopping and bought a size 12 (haven't worn that in yeeeeaaaarrrrrsssss) and not only did it fit... But it's also a little loose!!!! Just be patient!! It will get better!!!

I exercise now about 4 times a week.. It's funny I feel like I don't know what to do anymore.. I feel lost.. I need to pack away the scale and not think about it for a week or more!I just vowed to not get on a scale for 30 days bc I'm at a stall too, no movement on the scale for 2 weeks, I'm just gonna focus on eating right and exercising.... Like you said before at least you haven't gained!!!
  6. I had the on q pump and my surgery was laparoscopic... This is supposed to be a means so that you wouldn't need the use of a pca pain pump...
  7. I had a On-q pain pump post op ( I think some responses in this topic is causing some confusion, this is not a pca pain pump that the pt controls via iv, this is medication that is being infused directly into the belly via tiny long catheters that go directly into the abdomen) and I had good results with the right side that wasn't leaking, the left side wasn't in properly and leaking and I had significant pain there all night after surgery. The next day when the anesthesiologist came to remove the pump and catheters, she just kept on apologizing and saying that's why I had pain on my left side. If both sides were functioning, I would've needed no pain meds at all, my right side stayed pain free for 2 days after surgery and I truly think the on-q pain pump was the reason.

    Is It Just Me?

I just thought I was seeing things...(as I sip on broth)... Lol
  15. I felt differently, I had the surgery where I worked because I knew the surgeon's work ( low rate of complication, caring bedside manner, more than competent practice etc) and the floor which we send the bariatric post ops is the floor I used to work on ( before I became a float nurse) and I know all the nurses are above excellent, and also the comfort of knowing that they'll take even better care of them because I'm "one of their own"... U know? I had a great experience and am very thankful for that because this is scary and life changing. I wish you we'll too MtAirygirl!! When is your date?

  17. I don't have RN in my name for the simple fact that I don't want people to think that I think " I'm better than them", however if I see RN in a person's name and they seem nice I may reply to their dialogue and point out that I'm a nurse as well. I find that a lot of nurses do seem to be bariatric patients for the same reasons as noted in a previous reply...... We are a selfless profession... Constantly worrying about others needs and neglect our own... Don't have time to eat breakfast, then you're ravenously hungry when you eat lunch at 330pm ( forcing you to eat terribly) then you get home at 8:00 and eat something terrible ( quick and usually something you pick up on the way home from work). We're not even going to talk about the unhealthy treats brought in by family members to snack on throughout the day... Lol. I feel as though being a nurse helps one to choose a doctor for surgery based on experience ( I work in the hospital my dr practices at) I also feel as though nurses are realistic people, medically speaking.

    November buddies where are you?

I'm getting very close and feeling more and more relaxed.... I'm trusting in the power of the Almighty one to guide me through my journey. Before I left from work yesterday... 2 social workers laid their hands one me and prayed for me... Wow! Did that feel good! I have so much support and love, so I feel prepared, even the ones whom don't agree are giving me well wishes...just wanted to send some of these good vibes to anyone getting sleeved soon and is feeling nervous!!!
