  1. At my consultation appt my BMI was 40.05. Now I have to do a 6 month diet to get approved. My question is will I get denied if my BMI drops below 40 prior to surgery?? My coordinator assures me that the starting weight is the only one that matters but I'm not sold. I don't have any comorbidities and my insurance is BCBS.

Don't take a hot bath/shower. If your blood pressure is already low this causes vasodilation and will drop it even lower Take care,
  3. Just bend your knees a little. It will make you shorter and hike your bmi up a little.

  6. IV Tylenol is effective but this should be a schedule med for a few dose and you should also have a PRN (as needed) med for pain usually narcotic. I've never seen IV Tylenol used as a PRN.
  7. I stalled for 3weeks starting the end of my third week and through a lot of trial and error I found I cannot eat more than 50grams of carbs/day. So now the only carbs I eat are in my south beach meal bars which aren't bad. Otherwise it's all protein with the occasional vegetable. Been doing that for 6 days and am already down 5 more pounds. I also won't allow my self to eat anything until I finish a whole bottle of water, good to have an incentive
  8. I switched because my surgeon left the hospital and no longer accepted my insurance.
  9. I switched doctors a month before my sleeve and I really feel it was for the best. It worked out great
  10. As anyone used dr smoothie mixed with protein powder? Can't stand all the pre made protein drinks I used to be able to tolerate.

Just be careful, you are at a higher risk for DVT and pulmonary embolisms due to your extended hospital stay. Shortness of breath and tachycardia are symptoms. I'm not trying to scare you, just want you to be mindful of that.

    Coffee?

Coffee has caffeine which is a diuretic, even decaf has a small amount of caffeine in it. Prob should only drink it if your getting all your fluids in ok.

    DNR Order!?!?

You can't be a dnr and have surgery. It's contradictory. In the hospital part of our pre surgical checklist is to make sure dnr is rescinded. Intubation is a no no on a dnr.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi all, Had my sleeve done on Monday the 2nd. Pain isn't too bad just the right side of my abdomen where they had the drain in still hurts. My biggest problem was postoperative nausea and vomiting. The fluids weren't going through my sleeve fast enough so I kept vomiting them back up. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital and they added a scopolamine patch and some raglan which helped a lot. Home now and much more comfortable. My advice to you is get that scopolamine patch in pre op just to be on the safe side.

    Drugs

Toradol isn't a weak painkiller, it's just different and non narcotic. Different types of pains respond better to different meds. Toradol is anti inflammatory and works well for muscular pain, post surgical pain and is amazing for kidney stones. Toradol actually reduces inflammation in the body. Post knee surgery we normally use a neuropathic pain med like lyrica, non narcotics like tramadol, and then opioids (oxy, hydrocodone) for break through pain.
