  1. As stated really depends on your insurance as well as the hospital requirement. From date of first visit I was sleeved three months later. I had to do blood work., EKG, psych eval, sleep test, urine test (make sure no nicotine in system$, as well as get medical clearance from my Cardiologist and Neurologist. After all this it was submitted to my insurance. I have Medicare as my primary. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and had to use the aching faithfully for six weeks until I could be firmly approved and given a date. All was still done in three months. Stay positive! Sleeved October 7, 2013, a little over three months ago and down over 85 pounds!! Positive thoughts!!
  2. Hello :-) As you know Protein and Water are key! I was sleeved October 7th 2013 and am three months post op as well. I am down over 85 pounds. Keep in mind men lose faster then women. I have stuck with one Protein Shake a day called VI which is a powder that is like a vanilla cake mix, mix it with two tablespoons of Peanut Butter and a glass of milk, bam over 40 grams of protein. When you eat remember, protein first. Don't drink a half hour before or after meals. I use the most basic exercise which is a Ab Twister Pro and you can do it sitting and it minimal effort. Amazing! Men's lose fast then women, but I've given people this advice and they have been very successful. My program count two things when looking at labels, protein and sugars, anything you have keep under 10 grams of sugar. It's been a true success for me. Hope this helps you! Best of luck and please keep updating!
  3. Jules~ THANK YOU VERY MUCH! That donation and comment on the donation web page was very kind and generous of you! I can't thank you enough!!! I am thinking about doing a Facebook, sometimes there is just so much online drama that I don't even bother, I did use to have one, I think I may have to give it a whirl again! How is the post op diet going?!?
  4. Thanks Jules!!! Means a lot to me! I am, I am asking people to put it on their Facebook since I do not have one, so the word is getting out there slowly but surely. Thanks again Jules!
  5. I've gotten a lot of support from all my October Sleevers so figured I would post this up here and hope for any help that people are able to offer, times are tough so understand people not being able to help. If you are in any way, anything is appreciated. The link explains the cause. Thanks! And everyone keep up the great work! Looking great! http://walkaidefundraiser.myevent.com
  6. I have done a donation page, anyone interested I have attached the link below. Times are hard so no hard feeling if people are not able to, just wanted to include you guys. Thanks for all the help and support! http://walkaidefundraiser.myevent.com
  7. Sleeved October 7th, 2013, three months ago and down 85 pounds :-) Feel great and no complication! Everyone looks great!
  8. I went from working as a home care and hospice nurse which I did for six years, to being a 'client' myself. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, never forget that everyone :-)
  9. It was to late for them to determine when it happened, they caught one in my lunge following the stroke. With a combination of the weight and having Lupus I was at risk for stroke and more, I consider myself lucky as it could have been so much worse. I was told I would never use the left side of my body again and was denied physical therapy because of this and had to do physical therapy on my own through YouTube and learning videos and so on. After a year I was able to have use of left side of body. Glad I didn't listen or I would have given up hope and been in a wheel chair the rest of my life. As you can tell from my photos I have full use of my left side pretty much besides having to wear a leg brace (which I must say I hide well lol)
  10. I don't use any of the food apps, but I have found an app on my phone called Waterlogged that I use on my ugh days to motivate and keep track of my water intake.
  11. Hi Jules! I did egg beaters with a tad of salsa, that was one of them and it was total yum to me. Also, they have these small cans of tuna, they come with cracks just throw them away but the tuna is flavored. Very high protein, I love the spivey one! Yumm! I never got tired of it and I'm three months out and still do it! Hope this helped
  12. It was a combination of my weight and having Lupus, it caused a blood clot, seizure and stroke I am 38, happened when I was 24!
  13. I have called them and I have had no luck. It is originally a $7500.00 product and I have been able to get it discounted at $4500.00. I am def going to look into options for donations of things as you mentioned I get so down about it but have to stay positive!!
  14. BrickHouse~ I don't have a Facebook page or paypal account, I am not a hip as I would like to be with that stuff lol. I have heard of the the funding site but have no clue how to do it and call me crazy I get nervous putting my name and bank info online. I know, I'm 'special' lol. I looked it up even more after I read your post to me and it really does seen great but I just don't know how comfortable I am with putting my bank info and all online. I am going to look into it more because it does seem like people have a lot of success with it. The next thing it am going is a basket raffle at my house with some appetizers and what not. There will be things like a movie night basket, wine basket and so on and a 50/50. If you think of other things please let me know, could use all the help I can get at this point!
  15. Julie~ A walk aid is a device that assist with the mobility for people with drop foot or lower paralysis. I had a stroke four years ago which left me with a drop foot and lower leg paralysis. I have a full leg brace that I wear under my pants that goes from the foot to my hip, and I move with my butt and upper area muscles. I did a month trial with the walk aid and I had FULL mobility with no other assistance. I was able to JOG, JUMP, be on my feet like a normal person, but insurance denied it. My and the doctors have pretty much ran out of options and boy have we gone through oh so many. This device is so small and not noticeable it really was amazing. Then they took it :/ So now i need to do all I can to get it paid for. Another $3,700 to go lol.
  16. BrickHouse you are looking great!!!!
  17. Julie, Different programs/hospitals follow different guidelines on how much of the stomach they remove. I did a lot of research with hospitals in the area and I was beyond confident with Albany Medical Center once I did all my research prior to surgery. Prior to surgery I discovered that St.Peters and Ellis remove a set amount percent and that Albany Medical Center safely removes a tad higher percent. So different ppl consume different amount by a sliver. Just stick with getting in that protein, in the start mine was as BrickHouse said and my go to was the Greek Yogurt, I loved the Choboni Tubed yogurt. My program has different diet guidelines which has turned out to be very beneficial and has really helped the weight loss. My program count sugars , protein and water. I stick with things that are under 10grams of sugar, more then 10grams of sugar and I don't have it. Protein comes first, 60-65 of protein a day, water, water, and more water, never think your drinking to much. Also, drinking out of a Camelbak has SAVED me! It helped my drink more and prevents air from entering while drinking which is what happens when you tend to drink out of a regular bottle or a straw. So glad everyone's doing well, and glad there is actual conversation going on in this forum seemed to pause for a bit.
  18. Hey BrickHouse!! Congrats on your progress :-) I will say when you said you were a month out I was shocked that you were able to eat a half cup! Did u have the bypass or sleeve? 30 days out and 30 pounds, good for you! The PartyLite Party went well, it was actually a fundraiser event for something called a Walk Aid, it is a medical device I need and it was denied by insurance. It's a $4,500 device so I have a whole lot more fundraising to do, slowly but surely I will get there. :-)
  19. I am eating when I remember lol. I have a Protein shake once a day and I eat a small meal, about three ounces. Some days I hit two meals at three ounces, but not often. I got a dog as a gift so I go for two walks a day, and I recently got the ad twister pro. It's a very basic sit down machine that works on the love handles, abs and arms. Love it and I can do it right in front of the tv lol. I pick and choose my battles. When going out with friends to dinner I know I am able to eat whatever at an extremely small portion, it's what I choose that matters. From a chicken tender I can eat less then half of one, and from that I am TOTALLY SATISFIED. Drinking the Water is also VERY important and cleanses your system. I do not do excessive work out at all. Sit on my rear on the ab twister pro, couple short walks a day and get in my protein as best I can! My taste buds have totally changed since surgery and i had to switch Protein drinks three times. I now am comfortable and enjoy VI Protein mix that can only be got online or Muscle Milk which has a good variety of flavors and for people that get EBT is can be paid for by that. (I am currently on disability). I had three month follow up and blood work this week and my blood levels have NEVER been so good! My cholesterol is perfecto as well as everything else. I've gone from I believe 16 meds to now 2. Best decision I ever made :-)
  20. Well congrats! :-) About two weeks after surgery I was so tired on liquids and mushy foods! It wasn't the fact that I was hungry, it was the fact that I was just tired of that crap and wanted to try something real (took me a bit to realize that). On weeks two I sneaked a sugar free Reese's and let it melt in my mouth. Week three I snuck a very small stuffed mushroom (just the stuffing part). I needed to taste normal food lol. It didn't hurt me at all, three months out and down over 80 pounds, under the doctors goal weight already and 6 pounds from my personal (that's if I don't change it lol). The being hungry thing isn't really hunger, to me it was just wanting to taste normal food! When u are six weeks out from surgery and have something more normal you will realize your body wasn't hungry three weeks ago, but that it just wanted a change lol. CHEW everything VERY WELL You will be amazed when you get to solids how quickly you get full, but how SATISFIED you will be!!! I hope this helped :-)
  21. Hi Julie!! How are u feeling!?!?!
  22. PartyLite Party? Getting together tomorrow night from 5:30 till 7 with a few people and some bariatric patients for a PartyLite Party at my house. Would be a good opportunity to meet some of the locals. If interested please contact me snacks and non alcoholic drinks provided. Feel free to bring a friend/support!
  23. Melody~ For pre op your not racing the clock to lose so much weight so fast. Your goal/requirement is to lose a certain amount, they don't expect it gone in two weeks. Losing ten pounds in eight days is just fine, although depending how far you are preop I wouldn't do so much so quick. I started mine with have three appropriate sized healthly meals a day, no seconds. Then next I replaced a meal a day with a protein shake. Then next step replaced two meals a day. You can't do to much at once, it will make it harder down the road. I was sleeved three months ago today, October 7, 2013 and since my surgery I am down 80 pounds. Keep us post on your progress.
  24. You wouldn't be a human if you weren't nervous! You should have seen my the week before surgery, boy was I a mess lol. I look back to when I had my surgery three months ago and I laugh at myself for the anxiousness and nervousness I had. I expected the worse which is FAR from what happened. Think positive! Think about the outcome! The amazing results! The sexiness you will feel! All of it! I have never felt sexy in my 28 years until now. I went from having high blood pressure and being on three meds for it to three days after surgery not! Off two cholesterol medications. Off a seizure med! No longer pre diabetic numbers! And so much more! You got this girl , you got it!!!!! :-)
