Weight loss... Weigh in with your opinions.
I have to be honest 7 lbs a month seems very minimal to me, back 10 years ago I could loose 20-30 lbs in a month, of course I had only had one child and now I have three and I was younger and not well fat like I am now.. I guess I was so encouraged by these few I had talked to I just never looked for other answers, I have been told by my family dr that this will be wonderful and I will loose weight at a very fast pace, maybe he to has only looked at what is right in front of him. When I started seeing post of being 6 months out and loosing 30-40 lbs I panicked because I have already paid my deposit and I am having this, part of me can still close my eyes and see the me I will be this time next year but yes I am still discouraged after coming to the realization that I may not be one of the 100 lbs gone in 6 months or less and it does really put a damper on my outlook I had... Maybe with ad much willpower as I think I have I won't have a problem at all loosing it quickly.. I feel like if I can get 80-100 lbs off really fast then the rest will fly off, simply because ill be able to walk, jog, run without having to sit down every few minutes! I have had test run bc I was worried something was wrong with me medically but they found nothing, besides a little arthritis starting to show in my knees.. I was a volleyball player from school to YMCA at 22 years old, I want that again, badly!!! I guess I need to put my BIG girl panties on and pull them nice and high and get my head out of the black clouds of discouragement!! It happens especially when your family is negative like mine!! Thank you all for your words..

Weight loss... Weigh in with your opinions.
Yes what are slider foods, do you mean like ice cream and chocolate (things that melt)? I am not sure if I will have a nutritionist on call or at all, I am having my sleeve done by Dr Alvarez in Mexico. I haven't received any information packets yet. With all the research I've done over the past year I do realize this is not a miracle surgery that is going to just let you set back and relax while you loose weight while you do nothing at all and change nothing at all but it is supposed to kind of "jumpstart" your weight loss, speed things up and keep you from over eating. I guess I am expecting a miracle of sorts, but with my help...

Weight loss... Weigh in with your opinions.
I am reading lots of stories about weigh loss after the sleeve and I'm starting to feel discouraged.. Mine is scheduled for July, I had only spoke to a few (8) people about this over the last year and they were all extremely successful, for example one lady was 382 lbs the day of surgery and in 6 months she was down 160 lbs and in a year she was down another 75 lbs I was amazed at her transformation. She now (3 years out) weighs only 116 lbs!!! The others all lost well over 100 lbs in less than 6 months, now your wondering why I'm feeling discouraged... Well since I joined this page I have gone through and read several stories, one is 47 lbs in 6 months, 100 lbs in 14 months, 20 lbs in 3 months, this is not the weight loss I was expecting, these are very minimal amounts to me.. I have researched this for over a year and I'm just now stumbling onto this... Do I have extremely high expectations drawn from the 8 people I came in touch with? I'm over 300 lbs and have every hope to be under 200 lbs in a year or less... I'm starting to worry I don't want my mother to be right, she keeps telling me this will never work and I will just be throwing money away (I'm self pay) I need some input.. I am a mom of three my youngest is 4 years old I need this to work, I need to get healthy for my kids and myself. I'm 5' 8" 340 lbs I have no medical issues. However, I am to a point that its hard to walk very far without sitting down and I am very exhausted by the end of the day to the point I doze off unknowingly but as far as HBP, Diabetes, high C I am in the clear... Just looking for some encouragement...TIA

$25000 Surgery Cost, what did you pay?
I am self pay and I am paying a total of $8700.00 however I am going to Mexico. I priced it here in my area and the least price I got was $16,500.00 and that wasn't including anesthesiologist. I did research the Dr's for over a year before deciding on the first Dr I found.

Driving 14+ hours to Mexico...
That is my main fear, I figure it will take us 2-3 days to get home!! I will probably be overly cautious! I did but myself a really good pair of compression socks too, I was told by a nurse practitioner to get me some so I did! She also told me its gonna be at least a 2 day trip home

Driving 14+ hours to Mexico...
I am self pay and here in my state it's $20,000.00 plus for the surgery. I had already been going through the process to have the gastric bypass and ended up canceling it, my bills had already hit $6,000.00 and I still had to pay the dr and hospital! It's outrageous around here. I have done about a year of research on the drs in Mexico and ended up choosing my very first choice, Dr Alvarez. I am extremely happy with my decision as far as going to Mexico to do this. I would have to buy two seats and my husband is 6 ft 5 in tall and 300 lbs, he would also have to buy two tickets, it's just not in the budget, even after adding up gas money, motel stays that may occur!! So I'm not going to fly, it's set in stone to drive, I was just wondering if anyone else had made a long trip, even 8 hour trip.. Just curious how well it turned out so I know what to maybe expect:) Thanks for the input!!

Driving 14+ hours to Mexico...
I am scheduled for July and I am just not going to get in a plane... I have a fear of flying, I think most of the fear is because of the horror stories told by an overweight friend but I have never flown either so we decided to drive.. I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on my 14+ hour trip back home after surgery... It's a long ride for someone who just had major surgery, has anyone else had a long trip back home or am I one of the oddballs...lol

On average how much weight does everyone need to lose?
Well I certainly hope to loose 150-200 lbs, I have spoke with several people that have had it and so far it seems that the more you have to loose the faster it comes off at first. (This is just gathered from the people I've spoke with) most of the the ones I've spoke with that started out 220 lbs and under have lost weight at a slower pace. I'm not saying this is true for everyone, just happens that is how it's happens to these few. I did talk to one lady that was over 400 lbs and she lost about 160 lbs the first 6 months! May have just been a fluke thing but its possible!!

Sleevers over 300lbs?
100 lbs in 6 months is great, I certainly hope I will be down that much in 6 months or less!! I really feel like if I can drop 50+ lbs pretty quickly it will really help with everything, especially exercise and chasing my kids around! I'm having such exciting feelings and I want to share this excitement but I get a lot of negativity from friends and family! I wish they would be more positive about it but all I hear is well I hope you can do it, well I hope it works for you and you don't gain it all back plus some??? Where does this come from, it's like they don't want me to loose the weight! Sorry for the venting, I know this should be positive on here!!! All I know is I'm gonna hold my head high and show them I CAN do it!!!

I can't pick a Dr! Help!
Guillermo Alvarez, M.D. Located just over the border from Eagle Pass, TX!! I have been researching these drs for a year+ and I tried looking at others but kept coming back to Dr. Alvarez!! I have spoke to several people that used him and just recently spoke with a lady that used him 2 years ago, she was well over 300 lbs and now only 116 lbs!!! He has wonderful support system and you can speak to him personally, he is there for you, and like this lady that is two years out, he is still in contact with her!!! Personally, I would not go anywhere but Dr. Alvarez. I am scheduled for my sleeve in July!!
