  1. Dr Barkan is a wonderful and caring doctor. He is with you every step of the way and will answer any questions.
  2. I am scheduled for surgery May 21st. On my last pre op appointment with the surgeon I told him I've been experiencing a lot of heartburn lately and he told me with the revision from band to sleeve, it will probably be worse? Anyone has heartburn problems after revision?
  3. I am starting my liquid diet on May 7. However I'm having a hard time finding shakes because they all have sucralose which I can't have because I have fructose intolerance :/ I spoke to the nutritionist and she basically said that I don't really have to do a liquid diet, but just try and lose some weight. High protein low carb and low sugar is good.
  4. Good Luck!!! I just got a phone call this morning for my surgery date!! May 21st!!! Now im really nervous but so ready!!
  5. Yes I am gearing myself up for a battle mentally and physically, but I am so ready! Thank you
  6. Congrats!!! I'm waiting for my coordinator to call me. She's not in until tomorrow
  7. Called the insurance company today to find out if the Coordinator submitted my paperwork for surgery and to my surprise I was told I was approved!!!! I am so happy I thought it was going to be a battle since I was banded in September 2011. I am not waiting to get a surgery date and then off to start my liquid diet. I have to admit I am nervous, but so ready to get this band out!!
  8. Quick question, when you have the gastric sleeve does the same precautions arise when taking motrin and things of that nature. I have the lap band and I was told if I have to take motrin they prescribed me something to take with it so it doesn't affect the band, is this the same with the sleeve?
  9. Music to my ears. I really hope I get the same results. I don't think I can take the stomach pains anymore. I even had to run out of a restaurant while on my honeymoon because I ate something that just went right through me.
  10. After having the realize band placed...did anyone ever experience IBS symptoms. I have been diagnosed with Fructose Intolerance and experience a lot of IBS symptoms starting a few months after being banded. I am currently awaiting insurance approval to have the realize band removed and have the sleeve done. I have had very limited success with the band and experience IBS symptoms and pain on a daily basis as well as acid reflux. Anyone have a similar problem?
  11. Hey I wanted to know if anyone developed fructose intolerance with the lap band and if so what did you do to help your symptoms? I have it really bad where I am afraid to eat anything and have stomach aches all the time. Im waiting for insurance approval to have revision surgery to the sleeve. I'm thinking the lap band had something to do with slow digestion or something since I developed this a few months after surgery.
  12. Yes I had the lap band done in September 2011 at Winthrop
  13. They took my weights from previous doctor appointments I had with my primary doctor and from my weigh ins when I had fills with the lap band. Thats odd that they didnt recommend the cardiologist because I dont have any issues either, but I still had to have clearance from them when I had the lap band and now for the revision surgery. You posted previously that your doctor is Dr. Brathwaite in Winthrop, I see his partner Dr. Barkan also in Winthrop. Maybe the requirements for your insurance is different than mine.
  14. Thank you!! I did a psych and nutrition eval, upper GI, pulmonary clearance, endoscopy, 6 month diet history, lab work and cardiology clearance. I have United Healthcare Oxford. This time around for the revision I had a lot less pre-op testing.
  15. I am having revision surgery with Dr. Barkan at Winthrop University. Currently waiting on insurance approval.
