Feeling like food doesn't go down
So today I was cleared to move on to puree foods and really soft foods like cottage cheese and eggs. I was eating and when I swallow it feels like the food doesn't go all the way down. Like it's stuck in my throat or something. It doesn't hurt but it's annoying. I feel like I have to keep swallowing for it to go down. Is this normal? will it eventually pass?

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
How are all the December sleevers doing? It's been one week exactly from my surgery and I am down 13 pounds in 1 week! and a total of 26 pounds from my HW. Super stoked about those numbers!

Staples
Thanks guys. I'm really freaked out by this. I too thought I was getting dissolvable stitches, but nope they are staples. I hope it doesn't hurt coming out and yes I am starting to itch around the incision areas. I hope that goes away soon too.

Staples
Not the staples in my stomach, the staples on my stomach, the ones I can see. In each of my incisions I have 3 or 4 staples.

Staples
When do the staples on my stomach come out? and does it hurt when they take them out?

I have not been able to go to the bathroom!
I just wanted to say thank you for your suggestion. It totally worked! I feel like I lost 10 pounds in the toilet tonight lol.
-
Have you ever done this?
That makes sense. Thanks. Certainly not something I want to get into the habit of doing.

I have not been able to go to the bathroom!
Really? Ok, thanks for the suggestion!

I have not been able to go to the bathroom!
Gross subject, I know! But I have not been able to have a bowel movement since the night before surgery which was on Tuesday night (12/17), so 5 days. At what point do I worry about this? I was not allowed any foods at all on 12/17 (only liquids) or the day of the surgery which was 12/18 and I didn't get my first sip of Water until 12/19 and later that night I was given a chocolate Protein shake. Since that time I have been drinking 2 Protein shakes a day, plus water and about 1/4 cup of low fat yogurt. I haven't been very gassy either and not peeing much.

Have you ever done this?
Have you ever chewed up food and spit it out? I know it's probably not something to get in to the habit of but tonight I just wanted to feel FOOD in my mouth so I chewed on a small piece of hotdog and then spit it out. I've seen a few youtube video's of people admitting to doing the same thing.

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
Today I am 4 days post op and still in a lot of pain. My husband has to go back to work today so I'm on my own with my 3 year old. Hopefully she will behave for me because physically I am unable to care for her to my full potential but I have no choice. I also weighed myself today for the first time and I lost 10 pounds since surgery day. I'm very happy with that number!

Those first 2 weeks... how much did you eat?
Just trying to see if how much I'm eating is the norm or not. I am 4 days post op and right now I drink 2 Protein shakes during the day and 1/4 cup of low fat yogurt. I am also able to get in about 30 ounces of Water a day as well. Averaging about 500 to 600 calories and between 50 and 60 grams of protein. What did your daily meal plan look like in those first 2 weeks?

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
How is everyone post op feeling? I was sleeved on the 18th and I'm still struggling with the pain as expected. Especially in the area where they took out my stomach. My suggestion is to use a pillow and hold it up against that area on your stomach when you go to get up from a laying or sitting position. It helps! I've been walking around the house in 10 to 15 min increments and that helps with the shoulder pain but the pain is still there. I am still on pain meds and anti nausea meds. I also have not weighed myself at all. Has anyone else not weighed their selves since coming home from the hospital? I've just been in so much pain that I can't be bothered with pulling out the scale and weighing myself. I am going to try and stick with weigh in's on Sunday's and Wednesday's for a few months and then cut that down to weigh in's once a week after that. I hope everyone is doing well! and I can't wait till I start feeling better!!

shoulder pain?
How common is shoulder pain and did you experience it? I'm having shoulder pain in my left shoulder that comes and goes. And I was wondering how long it will be before the pain usually goes away? FYI I have not been able to pass any gas yet except through my Mouth.

No leak test, no drain?
Thank you. It just seemed that everyone had a leak test and drain so I was concerned about not having one. I'm still having a hard time figuring out what full feels like? I feel bloated so maybe that's it. My doctor gave me a cup of water and told me to just drink it at my own pace. I've been worried that I might drink too much or too fast but I've been taking it slow and so far so good.

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
Hey everyone, still in the hospital but should be going home tomorrow afternoon. I requested my own room but there were none available and so I ended up with the most annoying roommate EVER!!! To start with the recovery floor is not just for bariatric patients, its for anyone who got any type of surgery. So this roommate kept asking me to get up and help her and when I tried to explain to her that I'm unable too, she got mean! Then she kept grabbing the curtain that separates us and pulling it back so I had to call the nurse for help. Finally they put her out in the hallway. Gosh the last thing I needed to deal with right after getting surgery. So after surgery I was in so much pain, it was horrible! That whole first day was Bad but it was worse when iI had to get up out of bed. My suggestion to all you pre sleevers is to walk when you get up to you the restroom. I was only able to do a half lap that first day but the second day I did 17 laps (a little more than a half mile) so feeling much better the second day. I was not allowed anything by mouth until 24hrs after surgery, and then they gave me water. They said no ice chips because it tends to cause more nausea in patients. I've done well with the water so far and tonight they gave me an unjury shake which was good. So far no vomiting but the nurses have been keeping me on pain and anti nausea meds around the clock. Well I'm off to do some more walking so good luck to anyone getting the surgery today or tomorrow.

No leak test, no drain?
I'm in the hospital right now and was sleeved yesterday. When I asked about the leak test I was told I would'nt be getting one because I don't have a drain. Does this sound normal? Did anyone else not need a leak test or not have a drain? Now I'm worried.

Hospital here I come!
Me too! I leave in about a 1/2 hour to go to the hospital. Good luck to you!

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
I'm counting down the hours now and my poor stomach likes to show it's hurt by being angry. I swear I've been getting yelled at all night by my stomach. Kind of feel bad that I'm severing it in just hours from now but it's coming between me and where I'm trying to go. It's standing in my way. I will try to get on here and give an update once I am out of surgery and alert enough to respond. Surgery is scheduled for 12:45 am. I need to be at the hospital at 10:45 am. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

How did you feel a month out?
I love my sister to pieces but she has got a big mouth so I don't feel telling her would be good. She would be seriously itching to tell someone. I'm trying to think of something I can possibly tell her if she starts asking questions about my eating habits. Maybe I'll tell her it's a new diet fad I found online or something. The diet being 'the newborn stage' diet. Where you start from the beginning and work your way up.

How did you feel a month out?
In a few more weeks my sister is coming to stay with me. She may want to live with me. She will also have her daughter with her who is around my daughters age (3 &4 years old). I was wondering how I might feel almost a month out? having her here might be stressful for me but I can also see how it can be helpful too. If she thinks I'm not feeling well she will help me out with my daughter and household chores. However I have chosen not to tell anyone about this surgery. My surgery is tomorrow.

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
Thanks for the tips! I actually just sent my husband out to get me some gasX strips just in case I might need them. I have to be at the hospital at 10:45 am and my surgery will be around 12: 45 pm. I'm trying to do everything I need to do now, before tomorrow. I have already made a bunch of meals for my husband and daughter so they don't go without while I'm not here, plus extra meals for when I get out of the hospital so I don't have to prepare and cook meals for them. Overhauled my kitchen and cleaned it all out so there aren't any tempting foods in this house. Got all the Christmas gifts all wrapped so I don't have to worry about doing that after surgery when I may be too weak to do that. Now I shall focus on myself and prepare for tomorrow's surgery.

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
So tomorrow is the big day and I know I'm ready but damn I wish this anxiety I have would take off! Not gonna lie, I did throw a going away party for my stomach last night. I wasn't on any pre op diet but today I'm instructed to drink liquids only, up till midnight and then nothing after that. So who else will be getting sleeved on the 18th? Besides chap stick, is there anything else that I need to remember to bring? I'll be all alone in this as my husband will be left caring for my daughter and I have chosen not to tell anyone else about the surgery. My husband will come visit me sometime after I get out of surgery. Would it be safe for me to bring my phone to the surgery? I don't want it to get stolen but how else can I call my husband once I'm awake?

I messed up!
I just did an internet search on this because now I'm worried sick. I found out the reason they want you to stop multi Vitamins 5 days prior is because many multi vitamins contain Vitamin E and that can interact with clotting. However I read that the amount of vitamin E would have to exceed 400 IU before it would cause a problem. I hope that's true. My multi vitamin does contain vitamin E but the amount was 60 IU and I have only been taking 2/3 the daily dosage.

I messed up!
I don't know why or how I didn't catch this sooner but when I left my pre surgery screening they sent me home with a sheet of instructions and on there it says to stop OTC meds (such as advil, motrin etc... ) 5 days prior to surgery, which I did remember and made sure I didn't take any meds. But tonight I went and re-read the instructions to make sure I didn't forget anything I had to do since my surgery is coming up and on there I noticed that it also said that you must stop taking Vitamins 5 days prior to surgery as well. I didn't catch that the first time I looked over my instructions and I have been taking my Multivitamin, as well as Biotin and b-12. Now I don't know if this makes a difference or not but none of my vitamins are the kind you have to swallow, they are either in liquid form or the kind that melt under your tongue. Is this going to prevent me from getting the surgery? Why do they ask you stop taking vitamins 5 days before surgery? My surgery date is December 18th and now I'm worried.
