My husband and I married in 2012 both of us working full time and me also being a full time student. One month later he began dialysis.

This year has been a struggle of deciding what is right in our lives, should we learn dialyze nightly at home, should we have babies, will someone match to donate a kidney, how much time does he have? How much can we juggle at one time?

We are both in our mid 30s and thought that starting a family would bring happiness and was recommended since I was not able to donate a kidney at this point but I experienced fertility issues due to excess weight. As the year progressed no one matched my husband I felt that helpless feeling because I was too overweight to donate. Having noticed the pattern that the weight is in our way I discussed weight loss surgery with my doctor and opted for the sleeve.

This year has been a whirlwind. I had surgery on March 19, 2013, will be graduating college in July 2013, and hope to lose enough weight to be tested for kidney donation by the end of the year, I recently began grad school and after which we would like to try to babies again in 2014-2015.

I'm currently about 20 lbs away from being able to be tested for a kidney. I was struggling to continue with the weightloss so I enrolled in MMA fighter fitness classes and started to see success (body is toning, losing inches). Hopefully it will also help with the weightloss.

MY life has totally changed but I am so thankful that there are tools in place to get us by and help us to get better.
