Nor Cal ppl
I have cigna. I got my referral from my pcp in November of 2012. I was just sleeved 3 weeks ago. Yup, it took 9 months. But it flew by. I had to have all sorts of testing done along with 6 consecutive months of doctor supervised weight and exercise appointments. During this time I was able to learn so much about the process and procedure. Time flew by but I think I was much better prepared than some who jump into this decision blind with little to no expectations other than losing weight. If you read enough of the posting here many people fight for their right to have this procedure done and this can take months or years. Those of us that want to succeed will keep fighting until we get approved and or save enough $ or get the financing to get this done. This is not a light decision to be made and it takes time to wrap your head around all of the life changes that have to be made before going under the knife. If you truly want this then embrace the waiting period to get a jump start on this wonderful journey.

Feeling NERVOUS because I had a breast reduction a yr ago...worried I won't have any breast after the sleeve :-( Anyone have any experience with this?
I started out at 289lbs. 2 wks pre-op I was 266. I am now 3 weeks post op and I am now 240lbs. I started out at a very tight 44D. I am now comfortable in a 42D. The girls are drooping a bit more. By the time I get down to my goal weight of 160 I am sure they will look like skin socks that I'll be able to roll up and place in my bra. But my kind hearted husband has already given me permission to have the girls "fixed" when my weight have leveled off. He's even agreed to the lower body lift if I need it. But I have passed up buying a new car in order to save $ for a 1 1/2 to 2 years so we can afford the plastics in the end.

Syntrax Nectar
Nashua Nutrition has all of the Syntrax nectar flavors. The 2 serving packets are $1.95 and the huge containers (2lbs) are about $30-$35. The unflavored is smaller and I think is around $18. Check out their website at www.NashuaNutrition,com BTW....they also sell samples of their other brands and flavors for only $1.95. The nashua nutrion brand hot chocolate is to die for. Good luck on your hunt for good tasting Protein shakes. So far I only like the syntrax nectars also. The roadside lemonade and the chocolate truffle are my fav's.

Type I diabetic, SCARED!
Woohoo! 4 U in making this decision to improve your health. I have to agree with the previous posters. The sleeve although not a cure fore type 1 diabetes, it has been shown to improve it greatly. Those of us that are borderline with type 2 or already have type 2 diabetes it can stop it in its tracks. Good Luck to you on this journey.

Time off
I will be out for a total of 4 weeks. I utilized 2 weeks of vacation time, and then 2 weeks of short term disability insurance. I go back to work on the 23rd. I still get real tired in the afternoon. I am still on a liquid diet until the 23rd also. I am hoping to be able to have a bit more energy by then.

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.
1. Not feeling sexy 2. Being overlooked for promotions 3. being careful about which chairs to sit in 4. The seat belt in my husbands truck doesn't fit me. So I hide it from him.

"Hair" Today, Gone Tomorrow...
I am 3 weeks post-op. I am dreading the day that I start to lose my hair. It is part of my identity. It is one of the few things people would make positive comments about. My hair is down to my buttocks. It is blonde, fine and medium thinness/thickness. It has taken me nearly 20 years to get this beautiful mane. ARGH!

3 week update
I am also in the 3rd week stall. No movement of the scale for 3 days. I have since put the scale away. I am going to try and abstain from using it until after my 4 week post-op appointment with the surgeon on the 18th. Wish me luck. I've been addicted to stepping on the little *&$%#@, since the start of my 2 week pre-op diet. I may suffer scale withdrawls,

winter looks
buy long shirts that have some kind of belt or tie at the waist. Depending on your shape the belt can be placed at your waist or slightly higher up. My suggestion for a coat would be a nice form fitting blazer. You can typically buy good quality ones on clearance real cheap. As you shrink in size you can always have them altered to "refit" you. Also, for all you ladies and gents, instead of getting rid of your clothes as soon as they are too big, please consider having them altered. It is relatively less expensive than buy new. Or if you are handy take out your sewing machine an try doing it yourself. Shirts and t-shirts can simply be "fixed" by adding a few darts (gathered and sewn flat) on the front and/or back.

Runny Egg yolk ok on full liquids?
I was told absolutely no raw egg when I asked the nutritionist. I really like eggnog and I figured it would be an easy way for me to get my protein in. But to my dismay. my NUT said NO!

41BMI now, but if I lose weight, will insurance still approve me in six months?
Yes, I started with a BMI of 43. But had a BMI of 39 just before surgery. The way the paperwork is submitted to your insurance, they go by what your starting BMI was when you started the whole process for WLS. So as long as you met their criteria at the beginning you should be fine. Although, always double check with your insurance carrier or bariatric team directly.

SPANX- how soon after surgery can I wear them?
I buy the ones that start at my bra not at the waist. It helps to smooth the back, sides and front. I have never experienced a "roll" from wearing them. I keep 4 different lengths. Brief, Mid-thigh, calf and full length (down to ankle). LOVE EM'.

SPANX- how soon after surgery can I wear them?
Hey Ladies, I am 11 days post-op and am looking forward to wearing real cloths and not sweats. My incisions are still healing. They are stitched and glued but, get uncomfortable when things rub up against them. I am hoping I can wear my full torso spanx sometime soon. Any thoughts?

14 days out and wow! What an experience
I am 11 days out. My surgery was the first one scheduled for the day on August 26th. I don't remember much because I was on a morphine pump. The next day I was quite uncomfortable after they removed the pump. At that point I was only getting vicodin every 6 hrs. I had a hard time walking because everytime I got up I felt like I would pass out. By the 3rd day at the hospital I was walking more. I was discharged by 1pm. My first week at home consisted of lots of sleep and sipping on fluids (mostly with protein). I was very, very sleepy. I often felt very light-headed. If I exerted myself at all, my heart would beat right through my chest, On the 8th day I went to see my PCP for a post-op appointment and found out my oxygen saturation was only 84% and my blood pressure was 84/54. They did an EKG and a CAT scan and found nothing. When they redid my vitals they were back to normal. Since then I feel a lot better. I have more energy, I'm not sleeping as much, I haven't gotten light-headed. My only issue I still have is if I go up a flight of stairs I have to lay day for a few minutes because my heart-rate spikes. It was never like this pre-op. I'll be addressing this with my surgeon on Monday when I have my first post-op appt. with him. Oh btw, I am down a total of 44lbs. 23lbs lost prior to pre-op diet. 15lbs lost during pre-op diet. 6lbs lost since surgery.

Finally getting somewhere!
I had insurance through the Iron Workers Union. I started the process with my referral from my PCP last November. I was just sleeved Aug. 26th. I know it is a long process but time does fly. Just think of all the research and knowledge about the process you'll have prior to. I stuck to my guns and lost 23 lbs prior to my 2 week pre-op diet. I lost another 15 during the 2 week pre-op diet. As of this morning (9 days post-op) I am 246 lbs. Total loss so far.....43 lbs. If you start dieting and exercising asap you'll be that much further ahead in the end. Good Luck to you.
