When do I feel restriction?
Nice topic I am only 3 weeks out, but with hardboiled egg whites with some avacado mushed I still get a very full feeling. liquids go down way faster than I thought. Question for folks - once you are eating solid foods, what does the overall portion/volume size feel like to be full form an avrage meal. Think like chicken breast, some veggies and a bit of carb. Thx in advance

1/3 of my way to goal - how are others doing looking at their journey
today is day 20 post op. While a few 1 day stalls and a slower pace than I had imagined - pretty darn happy with results and restrictive feeling. When updating my tracker I realized since I started my journey Oct 7, 2012, I am 1/3 my way to goal. On Oct 7 last year I turned 42. I was my heaviest ever and looked in the mirror and knew if I didnt get healthy I would die young leaving my wife and 3 young children (2,4,6) alone. Scared the crap out of me! Lost some weight, then found a co workers wife who had a VSG about Halloween. Went for first doc visit Nov 15 and was 356. Was 333 day of surgery on Jan 16 and just so thrilled to be a third to goal. As inspiration for all of us - please share what fraction of your journey you have completed. While pounds down are exciting - really exciting to think 1/3 of my excess weight is gone - and for the first time - hopefully forever!

January Newbies ! Progress ?
Thank you all for sharing your progress, elation and frustrations. Has been a roller coaster ride here as well. I was sleeved on Jan 16. Weight day of surgery was 333, 339 the day after with bloat, and today I am at 307.5. that put me down: 25.5 from day of operation 48.5 from first Doc appt (Nov 15/12) 65.5 from my max Oct 15/12 Had thought I would lose faster as in the past with weight watchers I did lose quite fast, but now at 42 and with ultra low testosterone - I knew this would be a longer journey. Still trying to be under 300 by my 1 month sleeve-a-versary which would be cool as lightest in 6 years. Psychologically weird with the daily fluctuations but I know myself and I couldn't only weight once a week. My doc said for first month dont be concerned with grams of protein - just get water in and eat 6 small meals a day. Averaging about 350 - 450 a day Love to hear updates from other Jan alum

January Newbies ! Progress ?
Happy groundhogs day Day 17 here and feel quite good. Down 29.6 from day after surgery or 23.6 from per op. again see days I lose and days I don't but to think I have not been this weight for 6 years that puts it in perspective. Most of us would like to lose faster but again look at the direction the scale is heading and most important how you feel. A dream I think about is how many days post op I will hit 100 down from day of surgery Good luck all

New guy here, you've GOT to read this!
Hey Frank great story! I hear you re plateau. I am only 2 weeks post op, and have lost over 20 pounds in those 2 weeks. However the horror when the scale went up yesterday. Many reasons: 1) Water - systems need to recalibrate - as a large guy I know how water can swing wildly 2) Eating too little actually can continue to slow metabolism - funny how eating a bit more can stoke the furnace keep up the fantastic work

January Newbies ! Progress ?
2 week sleeve-a-versary today (Jan 16). I am down 27.1 from day after surgery, 44.1 since 1st pre op doctor appt (Nov 15, 12) and 61.1 since Oct 7, 12 - the day I decided to take my life back Congrats to all and their progress!

soup question - 2 weeks out
Day 13 and all in all going well. Worst is the extreme dry mouth especially on the CPAP at night - but otherwise good When eating like cottage cheese, easy to know when I am full, and while sipping, I can go thru water/crystal light surprisingly fast However, just had lunch which was lowfat cream of butternut soup. I ordered the small but it must have been 3/4 cup to a cup expecting I would stop at half - but I ate it all. I feel full and satiated, but not overly so. Kinda concerned 2 weeks out that I was able to eat that much. Anyone else have a similar experience? I thought my pouch was just a few ounces - cause I know I ate more than that. Is it that as a liquid basically it is passing thru the pyloric value quick?

When was the first time post op you went UP in weight?
thank you all - great advice. Also I think with just clear Protein first week it was almost like an atkins effect (ie with ketosis Water shredded). Now adding oatmeal and a few more things - while calories still low - a bit more more water retained.

When was the first time post op you went UP in weight?
Hi all, I know there are daily fluctuations, but on day 13 (unlucky?) post op I stepped on the scale and was UP 1/2 pound. After a day of exercise and under 500 cals with all my liquids this was very disappointing! Mentally I know I will have ups and downs and that this isnt a linear journey - but would love to hear from others when they first saw an uptick post surgery - how long it lasted and how they felt/reacted? thank you

January Newbies ! Progress ?
Well still thrilled losing daily but lost only 0.7 lbs in last day. Need to be thrilled with the progress (58 since Oct, 24.3 since day after surgery 11 days ago)

question re testosterone therapy post vsg
Hi all I was diagnosed with very low testosterone just before my veg. I will be starting testosterone therapy. Anyone with similar experience? What impact did this have for weight loss thank you

January Newbies ! Progress ?
Day 10 post op. down 24 since day after surgery which is pretty cool (some was bloat but a lot fat). Also had first post op yesterday. Interesting how each doc is different. Or diet for first 2 weeks is liquid and like yogurt and cottage cheese/fat free refried beans/soups. Week 3 and 4 we add like eggs and like strained baby food. Also what is interesting is I asked how many grams of protein to focus on. For this clinic, they stated for first month done concern yourself. They want 2 protein shakes for meals in the day but said after month 1 we will focus on protein grams. How are others doing?

When you dream ahead - how do you vision your weight loss rate over first 3 months post op?
Im sure we all think of it. I know it will come off as we keep focused but a guy can dream no? Here is my "dream" with high and low states: Weight Pre Op Diet start: 345 Weight Op Date: 333 Weight day after op : 339 (what I can start date) Week 1: 2 pounds a day Week 2: 1.5 pounds a day Weeks 3 and 4: 1 pound a day Weeks 5+: 5 pounds a week Would love to hear other people's thoughts? What were you hoping for / what did you end up at?

January Newbies ! Progress ?
Was Sleeved Jan 16, with preop diet starting Jan 6. Lost 12 pounds pre op and another 14 pounds 8 days our from surgery. Dreamed of 3 lbs a day for first few weeks but had to shake myself as being 35 pounds down since start of year is nothing shabby.

January 2013 Sleevers?
Day 8 here post op. Off pain meds but still extreme dryness in throat. Drinking over 50 oz a liquid a day but assume with such low carb, my body isnt holding any Water. Most exciting thing each morning is like a Christmas present stepping on the scale - this am 1.8 down giving 19 down since day after surgery (includes bloat form surgery - but awesome)
