  1. 16 days and counting!!!!! Just want to do this already!!! Still need to get prepared, though.
  2. So sorry there have been times you haven't felt supported. I think sometimes it's a matter of timing and if somebody feels like they have something that will answer a question and / or help. Keep at it --- I'm confident you will get the support you need here and don't get bummed when a post from time to time doesn't get a response. It happens to all of us. Good luck on your journey!!!
  3. I'm sorry he's not supportive. Maybe if you talk to him about why he's against it, you can address his concerns. Is he going with you to the seminar? My husband attended with me and was able to get his questions answered and help me choose a surgeon. Maybe involving him in the process (if you aren't already) would help. Good luck to you!!!
  4. Thanks to all for your insight and for sharing your experiences -- I feel much better now! 16 days until sleeve day!
  5. My insurance only covers a 1 night stay in the hospital. I'm having my surgery at 7am on a Friday so at least it's earlier in the day. Based on what I've been reading, seems like many people have a 2 night stay? Has anyone had a 1 night stay? How was it leaving the next day. I'm especially nervous as I'm also having my gallbladder removed as I have a couple gallstones that have never given me issues but my surgeon feels it would be best to remove it to avoid a 2nd surgery. Please-can anyone help calm my nerves about my short hospital stay??? :-)
  6. I'm 290 and one of my Dr's smaller patients. He feels I'm going to respond very well to the surgery but I guess only time will tell. I've been working out 3X/week with a personal trainer which he says will help. I'm 2.5 weeks from my sleeve date. Good luck to you!!!
  7. That's a good plan. I'm having in US. I'm in St Louis, MO-going with a local surgeon. Luckily, mine is covered by insurance. How about you?
  8. I hadn't thought about it yet but will let you know. I think the lack of protein is what causes the hair loss but it's a good question. I found a lot of good information on this site about what to eat and when-that's my biggest question. Also wondering if Ill be able to get my current medications down. How are you feeling? I'm getting kinda scared but not enough to back out. I'm trying not to tell anyone about the surgery but I'm a very social person (happy hours, dinner, etc that it's gonna be hard to hide that I'm. It really eating or drinking. May have to come clean but not until after.
  9. Is it at Des Peres? What time. Would be interested if the time is right.
  10. Good luck to you both!!!
  11. So sorry that you are going through this. I really hope that time allows it to correct itself and that you feel better soon. I'm about 2 weeks pre-op and stories like yours scare me but it's good to know the risks and go into this eyes wide open. Hope you feel better asap!!!!
  12. So glad everything has gone well for you. Let us know how your follow-up goes today.
  13. Not sure of the details other than she is at Barnes downtown in ICU and needs a liver transplant. The surgery was in 2010 but sounds like there have been issues since that led to this. The story is on the KMOV website. I tend to think they "sensationalize" stuff but this was information directly from her and her family. Anyhow, it's not the sleeve and there are so many positive stories including yours. Encouraged to hear you are doing so well so soon after surgery. Curious why you didn't go with Dr. Scott? I've heard good things about your surgeon too but still wondering.
  14. Would love to hear updates from those of you on this message who have now had the surgery. I'm dealing with the fears that many of you voiced (my surgery is scheduled for May 31). Would appreciate hearing your state of mind now that you are on the other side. Thanks!
  15. Did anyone see the story on Channel 4 about Ashley Delp who had bypass in 2010 and now is at Barnes Jewish in the ICU due to complications related to the surgery? I realize we are doing a different surgery but there are still risks. Hate seeing something like this with my surgery only a few weeks away - Just don't need anything to add to my worries. :-( So many more positive stories so I'm focusing on those!!! She got her surgery in 2010 in the STL area but they didn't say where or what surgeon due to a pending lawsuit. Does anyone have scoop on this?
  16. July 22 Sleever - I haven't heard of that Dr. If he is with MyNewSelf at Des Peres Hospital, he must be new. All of their Dr's do seminars so you could attend his to meet him and ask any questions. Good luck to you.
  17. Kyle Lynn - good luck to you. The office should contact your insurance company to verify the requirements. I had to do a 3 month medically supervised diet in addition to the psych eval. We should definitely keep in touch.
  18. Where are you in your journey? Have you picked a surgeon?
  19. Yes, my surgery is with Dr. Scott. I've met with him 3 times and attended his seminar and have been really pleased with him. Seems like the office just needs a strong manager and some service standards. Also, not sure if the front desk gal who answers the phone and is the first point of contact for office visits should be in that position. She is just not service minded or particularly friendly. They may need to hire some more people too as perhaps there just aren't enough employees to handle the volume. I did work briefly with Heart of America Bariatrics (Dr Van Wagner) when I was trying to pick a surgeon and I was really impressed with their service. They were extremely responsive, quick and friendly. They were just a lot further for me and I connected more with Dr Scott. Good luck to you!!! Not sure why they would be less responsive for someone who is self pay. It should be less work for them as they had to jump thru all kinds of hurdles for my insurance company.
  20. Hi there-thanks for reaching out. Hope your surgery goes well and that you have a speedy recovery as well. Would like to hear what they tell you in your pre-op class - I'll share the scoop from mine as well.
  21. Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, it's at Des Peres hospital.
  22. Just got my date --- Friday, May 31st. Excited, scared, anxious, hopeful, ready! I go in for my pre-op testing and class on May 20th. I'm required to do a 3 day liquid diet prior to surgery so Memorial Day will be my last hurrah although not planning on doing anything stupid. Praying that everything goes smoothly and that I'm healthy (and maybe smoking hot) by summer 2014!!! I've been working out with a personal trainer for a couple years now - 3x/week - so pretty good on the exercise front. Hope I can dive back in not too long after surgery. I'm kinda anxious about never getting to eat some of my favorite foods perhaps ever again but fit and healthy will surely taste soooo much better. Congrats to my fellow May sleevers - looking forward to giving and receiving support as we continue on our journeys. :-)
  23. OK, they called and the gal I talked to was awesome. My surgery is scheduled for 5/31. Maybe I'm just anxious so I'm picking on everything. I do think the front desk gal needs some training on demonstrating a delight to serve attitude and tone. Everyone I work with once I'm past her is fantastic. :-)
