    First Appointments

On the 23rd I went to my first appointment with the surgeon (Dr. Averbach). We're hoping to have all of my requirements done by June. After talking to him and his nurse, I've decided to switch that when work has their open enrollment in April, I will be switching to United Healthcare, because they only require a BMI or 40. The new insurance wont be effective until July 1, but that's right when all of my requirements wil be done! So excited to be doing this!! Last night, the 28th, I met with the nutritionist, Nancy Lum. She's a sweetheart! She said I'm a great candidate for this surgery and we have set my goal weight at 150-160. That's right where I wanted to be!! Now I've got to work on having more protein and less carbs. Come on July!!!!

    Pain

Try taking smaller sips? It should not be causing you pain. . Definitely consult your doc or your NUT. I'm only 2 weeks out and I've pretty much lived on the premade Pure Protein shakes and a Greek yogurt. Only time I get pain is if I drink to fast or too big of a sip.

    Day 3 post op

Not sure if it's normal or not but I'm day 3 an experiencing the same thing. Nothing seems to sit well in my stomach
  4. Surgery was yesterday morning. After I passed my leak test this morning they gave me chicken broth, Jello, apple juice and wafer. I had a few sips of the broth and it made my stomach worse than it's been since surgery. Anyone else have this issue? Is this the new stomach getting used to things?

    Hey

How's everyone feeling? I was sleeved yesterday, I go back and forth with how I feel. Keep trying to sip the liquids they give me but they just upset my stomach too bad. Hope everyone is doing well.
  6. Surgery this morning! Feeling pretty good. Gas pain is the worst, anyone know how long it usually lasts? Been walking, which helps a little!

    Anyone from Maryland?

He's in Catonsville! I love his program. Very strict, but very informative and he has a great support system.

    Anyone from Maryland?

Hi! I'm from Maryland. Surgery scheduled for 9/23. Who is your doctor? I'm with Dr. Averbach!
  10. I haven't had surgery yet, so I'm probably not much help.... BUT, you also have a lower starting weight than most people. So you may not lose as fast!

  14. Hello! I have been going through the process to get approved by insurance and was just submitted on July 12th! I'm super excited and very nervous at the same time! I recently saw a friend who had the surgery a little over a year ago, and she has met her goal. I am so happy for her and proud of her success, but I'm also noticing that she has a lot of extra skin, especially on the back of her arms and her belly. Is there a way to avoid this? Lots of weight lifting? Or is this something that you cant avoid? I know for sure that she didn't particularly eat well once she was able to start eating food and I know she didn't work out very much. I have also heard a lot of people say that the first two weeks are the hardest, which I expect. Is it hard because you are in pain or because of the whole "mourning the loss of food"? Thanks for any help/tips! So excited to start this journey!

    Telling family

I wasn't even planning on telling my brother and we are extremely close. Only my mom and husband know at this point. I may end up telling my brother because I will still be in the hospital on my birthday. Only reason I chose not to tell him is because I know he doesn't understand. He's an athlete and has been fit his entire life. From talking to the psychologist that my doctor requires his patients to see, she said that she doesn't think it's necessary to tell anyone other than the absolutely necessary people. But she also told me not to be embarrassed because I was taking control of my life.

    Where it all began....

Tonight hubby and I attended the mandatory seminar. I'm finally going to go through with this. My meeting with the surgeon is January 23rd. Now to figure out what I can do about insurance. I have BC/BS Maryland and they want me BMI to be 50. I'm at 45 so I'm hoping to switch. Maybe pick up a second insurance or switch when we have open enrollment at work! We'll see
