  1. This is my whine about no one believing that I will do this. A little background. I have thought of this last October and looked into it a bit. Then over my holiday break I got really serious and found this forum. I know that my insurance will NOT cover me because my BMI is about 34-34.5 (5'8" ~225) and currently have no co-morbidities. I will be going to TJ, Mexico for surgery and hope to schedule a May or June surgery date. I've told three people. My boyfriend, a co-worker, and an ex co-worker/good friend. They ALL think I've gone totally crazy. My boyfriend is worried about complications. The insurance I have through my work is crap and of course they don't cover elective surgeries such as this. He's worried that I will have complications and the cost will all have to be out of pocket. My co-worker smiles at me but she shakes her head no. HA! She thinks this is a bad decision and that I should try to lose my weight with diet and exercise. My ex co-worker/good friend knows that I'm crazy and thinks I've gone nuttier. I'm addicted to this forum because I want to prepare myself and get some of the support that I would like. I am worried about a few things but one in particular. I suffer from depression. I've read more than a few posts saying that after surgery, they had moderate to severe depression. I see my pysh. very soon and will be letting her know my decision and chatting about it. Then I see my regular doc a few weeks after that. I'm not too worried about the complications. I will talk with my regular doc about that and see what can pass through my insurance without any problems. I could go on and on but I'll end here. Thanks for reading. Any advice or works of encouragement will be greatly appreciated. (there sure are a lot of Is in this post)
  2. Icon! You are awesome!! Thanks for the great update and keep on recoverin'.
  3. That's so exciting! I'm going crazy that I have to wait until May or June. I just want to go right now. Seriously, I'm going crazy. I'm in this forum every night. By May I will be a pre-op expert. Then I'm on to post-op expert.
  4. Yay!! I am paying my deposit next week but not having surgery until June. Wait. Is that a good idea? Should I wait to pay my deposit? I'm pretty excited about this.
  5. I'm actually paying my deposit next week and planning for a mid-June surgery with Dr. Garcia. I still have so many questions for Alma. Now that I have the plan set out, I'm nervous. I'll be a wreck come May. Anyone else planning for surgery in June?
  6. I'm still a newbie and in the planning stages of my surgery. I have a question on drinking liquids after surgery. I drink a lot of Water. Like I guzzle water. But I know I won't be able to take my big gulps anymore. How much can you swallow at once? A tablespoon? Also, in order to get enough Protein and stay hydrated, does this mean you have to constantly take drinks of what ever Fluid you have? I'm not even sure if I should be posting on this topic but everyone here has had surgery already and has experience. Thanks!
  7. I'm in the same boat as Jesser. I prefer to go alone. And the more un-supportive people are, it seems like I want to do this more and more.
  8. Congratulations!! That is a great accomplishment!!
  9. Oh my gosh! My boyfriend totally says that! Why can't you just lose the weight yourself, just stop eating all that crap and watch your portions. (He has Crohn's so he doesn't each too much and has always been thin.) He doesn't believe that I will come up with the money to do this. Just watch me. I am not going to tell my family until after I have surgery. I've told a few people at work and they think I've gone totally nuts. So, here I am on the forum, reading all the posts I can and realizing that many people are like me. Thanks everyone!!
  10. I agree with bee13. My deductible and out of pocket is so high that I would be paying the same as going to Mexico. And...my insurance would never approve me. I'm about 5'8" and 225 with a BMI of 34 and no co-morbidities. I am approved with Dr. F Garcia in TJ with R4AC. I'm still doing research on the post-op and the depression some people say they get. But I'll be in TJ hopefully sometime the end of March or April. I'm guess the timeframe of the surgery depends on when I can pay.
  11. Omg. I'll probably lose it in my chest. LOL!!
  12. Okay. I sent in my initial paperwork at R4AC. I hope I'm given the okay. Then, gotta get my passport card and try to pay for all this somehow. Ha!!
  13. Okay so..... I'm getting excited. I love reading everyone's posts because it really helps in making my decision. I will 85% be going with Dr. F Garcia. I just don't know if I will go through Ready For A Change or A Lighter Me. I have not spoken with anyone Alma or Ronda yet. Does anyone have reasons for picking one over the other? At this point, the only thing I like about RFAC over ALM is that RFAC gave me much more info up front.
  14. Thanks for all your great info and stories!! I don't have any definite plans yet but I hope I can do this in April. It seems like a more realistic time frame.

  16. Hello I'm new here and found this forum looking for information. How do you decide on what doctor or hospital you will use in Mexico? I will most likely be self pay and may have to use financing. Also, how do you pick your financing company? Do most use their own bank or do most use a medical or weight loss financing company? Any info will be helpful. I don't know anyone who has had this surgery and I don't want to talk about it with any of my family/friends yet. Thanks!! Jacque
  17. I am going to hope for a June date also. Money is also the issue. I will be a self payer.
