Okay Crystal--Start TODAY?!
First things first, I haven't excersized the last couple of days and man do I miss it! It is just too dang cold to go for walkies right now, I think our high temp yesterday was close to 15 degrees, and right now we've warmed up to a balmy 5 degrees. Cold like this is really harsh on my lungs! I've started my finals already, and this is a crazy time for me! Tonight we have our big class dance thing, so we are going to warm up for about an hour before we dance, Yikes! The next question is blended or on the rocks? I used to only do blended, but I discovered that blended shuts down my band really fast. And, Cointro or sweet & sour mix? I'm going to hazzard and say Cointro, because I think you're a top shelf kinda gal... (I perfer Greygoose and Bellvidere myself Bonus points for anyone who knows what those are ) Okay, Kare, if you please, just use my winnings to buy Barbie Dolls for toys for tots. I know that KB toys generally has great deals on Barbies this time of year. This is what I was going to use the mulah on anyway, but if you just take care of it at your end, that will save time Yay! YAY! NEW SHIRTS! YAY!

Doctor Help!!
Hey Velvet, the purpose of losing the weight is so that you have extra room inside for your surgeons to work. Mainly they want to shrink your liver down so there is less dagner to it. I don't know anything about the surgeon that you have choosen to work with in OR, but my surgeon also banded my husband when he weighed 600 pounds. If you want to talk to someone in that office, the information is in my signature. It isn't a test to see if you can lose weight. It's a personal safety thing for you. I'm sure that you can do it, I know it seems daunting, really I understand. A few weeks on the Optifast or what ever liquid diet will really go a long way to help. YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this. We are here to offer support along the way. No, it isn't easy or even fair, but if things were fair, we wouldn't be in this place in the first part. Like Capt'n Jack says, Strength and Courage!

Its Winter Time!
right now it is -7 degrees. Lastnight I didn't walk to my bellydance class, as usual, since ti was about 12 degrees and the cold seered my lungs like fire. I had to pry open my car door because it had frozen shut. Okay, I have been living in my long silk underwear. I wash my hair when there is plenty of time to dry it (I have curly hair and don't use a blowdryer on it.) and the key to staying warm is to layer. But at least you don't have to worry about crossing parking lots that are coved in 3 inches of ice. I have to go find a scarf

My band and the first date
Oh Karen! you poor thing! Man, I hate first dates! Good thing I've got a steady beau now (sure, I married him, makes him all the more steady!) And yeah, the next time won't be a first date, so you can relax. Just make sure the next one is something like bowling or other activity. At least you didn't barf on yourself or at the table!

i'm never eating in public again!
Teressa, I think it was the Turkey! Makes me PB every time. Oh Karen! Baby! Yeah, I expect you don't get a second if you barf on your date

Suicidal thoughts with obesity?
Hey Butch! very interesting and I hadn't thought of it this way, not really. For my DH, yes, definataly yes, but he reached 600 pounds. But not for me. I guess part of the reason I never thought of it this was is that most of my weight has been because of medications, steroids through out my entire life. I am wonderful at maintaining a certian weight, but once I get put on steroids, BAM! I gain more weight. It isn't a matter of putting the fork down and backing away from the table for me. I'll have to think about this some more. Thanks for the thoughts.

gaining steady before banding...
I gained weight too, about 10 pounds too. I was on steroids for asthma. 10 pounds in 10 days has to have a large Water componnent. My DH gained more than 100 pounds our first year of marrage and didn't gain that fast.

will band help-i eat when full
One other thing to think about, besides what Capt'n Jack has so eloquently written, is that you might have a food sensitivity. Corn and corn products make me ravenously hungry, to the point where I want to eat everything in the apartment, then go bang on the neigbor's doors so I can eat all their food too. Oh seriously, corn turns me into a shark like feeding frenzy. So, I avoid corn. If I know I'm going to be eating it, I plan for it, and make sure I have protien and fat ready to go. (Protien and fat stay in your blood stream longer than carbs.) And yes, banding will physically stop you from over eating most of the time. It is still possible to "eat around the band." Soft foods, especially ice cream go right through the band.

5th week post-op Dr has moved me to solids. I'm scared!!
5 weeks is well within the time frame. Don't worry! You'll be just fine. 6 - 8 weeks is typically when the first fill happens, not solid food. And you might gain back a little weight. But don't worry there either. It isn't at all uncommon to gain back a few pounds during this time. But the good news is that after you are properly adjusted, I don't think you will ever feel like you are "starving" again.

i'm never eating in public again!
SEE I told you I was loud! </fill>

Hi new here.
Hi Daisymomma Well, the fills are because the band's full name is the Adjustable Lap Band. The fills are there because everyone is different. Sometimes people need more, sometimes they need less. Many people need a tighter fill as they lose more weight, to maintain the same amount of restriction. I'm in SE ID, but I don't know where Utah County is.

Home for the Holidays
Nice to know your dry run went well One of my other buddies is forever getting to the restaurant for our "Tuesdays Nights" on the wrong night entirely... Finals start tomorrow, and run through next week.

Goodbye, Mr. Whipple
I'm so sorry Whip, I am anticipating this very thing. I know that when i get home for the holidays I'll have to put my own beloved Astro down. I cannot pretend to understand your pain, but I know what mine is like.

San Fransico or Bust.....
I fly fairly regularly, and I don't notice any difference with restriction. When my DH comes to visit me, he drives but the altitude (4500 feet) affects his band.

I have been sick, sick, sick!!!
In the nearly year that I've been here at LBT, I've never heard of anyone having an issue with their Spleen! That's definately a new one on me. As someone who's had more than her fair share of lung issues, I just wanted to let you know that my band has just about taken care of my asthma completely. Last year at this time I was fighting for a breath, hospitalized and on oxygen therapy. Just to give you some hope. I'm sorry you are having such a rough go of it!

Help-feeling port all the time

i'm never eating in public again!
Oh, with this fill, i don't dare eat anything in public. If it isn't a PB it is the most amazing noises! belching and gurgling and weird squeeky noises... No, I try to avoid eating with anyone these days.
