  1. I'm with HeatherGurl, I think we just don't understand the whole make-up think at a fundamental level. And thank you for you lovely comment! I needed to hear that this morning! Ok, I need to hear that every morning, but unfortunatly, I don't live with my DH. (boo-hoo for me :cake: )
  2. DH told his entire family, but they are a medical family. They were mostly supportive, especially since my DH has had such amazing success. I say mostly, because one sister-in-law wasn't so supportive, but that's another story. I told my older sister, and asked her not to tell our mom. She told our mom. To my utter shock and amazement, my mother has been incredibly supportive. The world must be coming to an end.
  3. This is my though also. I've had post-tramatic stress my entire life, I don't know how to live without being in a heightened state of panic. I think that envirment, combined with being on steroids as a small child and for long stretches as an adult.
  4. my screen too. I thought it was weird too, I've never seen anything like that before
  5. of course that's an NSV, MollyMolly! I understand all about crunch time, ship mode, and how hard it is.
  6. hmmm, interesting. I almost never ever wear make-up. I do wear a lot of eye make-up and lipstick when I'm dancing, but that's different, it's part of my costume. I'm currently living in the land of the big hair, the land of the made up women. Hmm, interesting word choice. When my son came to visit me in the fall, he was astounded at the amount of make-up women wear here.
  7. Well, I have a tentative diagnosis. The interist thinks it is very likely that I have cushing's syndrome. So, I go for a new round of tests Friday to find out what kind I have, so i can start a treatment plan. I'm in a weird place. This sort of makes it real, but yet not real. I don't want to go to work, but well, I have to. I just want to go to bed and sleep, which is what I usually do when depressed. I thought I'd be happy with an answer, but I have a head ache. My DH reminds me that it is only a tentative dignosis, even if it makes sense. Cushing's Syndrom http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/endo/pubs/cushings/cushings.htm Cushing's syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure of the body's tissues to high levels of the hormone cortisol. Sometimes called "hypercortisolism," it is relatively rare and most commonly affects adults aged 20 to 50. An estimated 10 to 15 of every million people are affected each year. ... Treatment depends on the specific reason for cortisol excess and may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or the use of cortisol-inhibiting drugs. If the cause is long-term use of glucocorticoid hormones to treat another disorder, the doctor will gradually reduce the dosage to the lowest dose adequate for control of that disorder. Once control is established, the daily dose of glucocorticoid hormones may be doubled and given on alternate days to lessen side effects.
  8. I was a high risk patient, so I spent the night. My DH spent several days in hosptial, but he is special too.
  9. Actually, I can see where this would be a major NSV, especially if you wer raised as a member of the clean-plate club! You have just managed to overcome a lifetime of habit and conditioning, you threw away food! I say this AMAZING work!
  10. Bumping because I think it relates to several current thread, "Star Jones" and another one about anger over WLS
  11. yup, yup, yup. Being fat is definately seen as a moral failing, one of the 7 deadly sins. Someone started a thread "I hate fat people" quite some time ago, that was very insightful I'll see if I can find it and bump it. I think its' definately time to revisit that. I don't really understand why being fat is so emotional for everyone. I find it rather facinating.
  12. I think while you can suppliment your Water with flavored beverages (minute maid light has some new great flavors) it is important to drink WATER because only water will flush out the toxins from your body. Any time you add extra stuff, you add extra work on you kidneys and liver. If you don't like the tap water, try different bottled waters. In SE ID the water is TERRIBLE so I buy gallon jugs of water, but at home in Seattle the water is wonderful.
  13. Why don't you think it will work? I'm facinated to understand why. I would go for helping establish the clinic. For one thing it would really be good on the old resume. One of the things to keep in mind is that while a group mght not work, the work you would do with one-on-one would be so important, not only for the people you help, but for you.
  14. Hi Sho, how long have you been banded? You've already lost an amazing 50 pounds.
  15. Hi Analoren, I'm sorry to hear that you are losing so slowly. I would definately add excersizing to your day, not only because it should help with the weight loss, but it will help you feel better. As for being back to the bad food, every day is a new day, so every day is a chance to start new. You already know what is your weakness, so for a week, avoid that food. Then the next week, avoid it again. You can do anything for a week, right? Well just string those weeks together!
  16. Actually, if you use a good whole wheat or multi-grain bread I would think that the Fiber gained would off-set your bad feelings towards the carbs. MMMM fiber. And I personally believe that the egg and the bread, while a filler, helps define the meatloaf or meatballs.
  17. okay, which one did you make?
  18. chuckle, chuckle, chuckle! Oh the band will sure control your portion size!
  19. I think part of it has to do with being fat is a sin. Glutton is one of the 7 deadly sins. Because we are fat, we are undeserving of pitty, of respect, of any understanding. Only by the sweat of our brow, only through hard work shall we be redeamed from our sin. People might feel that because we are having WLS we are taking the easy way out, that we are are short-cutting the system.
  20. Hey there, welcome to the club! Under one suprevised program I went through I had to meet with a shrink to talk about my food issues. He was completely baffled because I didn't have an eating disorder. But I do think that everyone is an emotional eater on some level. I think the line runs from folks like the one's that have posted where we really don't much to the opposite end of the spectrum where they wind changes affects their eating. Since I've joined LBT I've gained such an insite on eating disorderes. I still dont' understand them, (and apperently can't spell them either.) When I'm feeling strong emotions I lose my appitite. But then, I've never been a binger, I hate the feeling that most people have after Thanksgiving or Christmas... that over stuffed feeling where you feel like your skin is too tight. Hate, hate, hate. Hmmm strong emotions. I guess the problem is that so many are emotional eaters, so many are bingers, so many have eating disorders. I'm a foodie I guess. I love good food, I love feeding people good food. And I've always had a big appitite, but I have a big appitite for life, I wonder if they are related. If I was a normal bandster, the band would work perfectly for me, and I guess, in some respects it does. I'm not hungry all the time now, and I've been freed from thinking about food.
  21. Just a side note, some bandsters can't handle ground meat. My DH can't eat any sort of ground meat, unless it is like taco meat.
  22. That exactly how I feel! On the one hand I really am giddy! I just IM'd my DH saying exactly what you said! Oh how funny! I'm so excited that they are finally gonig to be able to tell me what's wrong, and how to fix it. I'm excited that I'm finally going to be able to start losing weight, and I'm not even daring to dream of being a rabbit! But on the other hand, I'm terrified that they are going to tell me that there isn't anything wrong with me, that I'm doing it wrong, that if only I would try harder or work harder or be more deserving, I'll lose weight.
  23. Pork is the only way for my chili. I have trouble with beef and chicken way more often than I do with pork. Besides, in this recipe it's much more tasty. lean pork, cut into chuncks or cubes (shreds easier) onion garlic chili poweder of your favorite type. I'm currently in love with chipotle cumin (very important for the flavor) oregino canned tomatoes (any type you like. I like a whole tomatoe, but that's because I like large pieces of toms). You can also use a jar of salsa instead. italian crimini mushrooms (aka baby portabellos) can of back Beans Throw everything into the crock pot, except for things you don't like (or can't tolorate, like the mushrooms). Set to the lowest setting. go for a walk, or play video games... or what ever floats your boat, including floating your boats.
  24. I just breathe. Because sex starts in the brain, that's where I start.
  25. My DH was banded about 2 and a half years ago, and I was banded this last March. He's a Rabbit's Rabbit, while I'm, well, no. :thankyou:
