fun thread -- names
The morning radio show I listen to in the mornings had an interesting topic yesterday. They were talking about last names, and if anyone does what their name says. You know, if anyone named Baker was a baker or things like that. I thought that would make a fun topic here, so here goes. My last name is Webb, and I spin as one of my many hobbies. Spin as in spinning wool, not the bike thing. Also, I work with the internet and networks, so that cracks me up too. My younger sister changed her name when she got married, so she went from being a Webb to an Earl (some people pronounce URL as Earl)... The CO of my ex-H's Navy Squadron was named Cosmos. Yup, Captian Cosmos. that is one of my all time favorite name.s

Kick it to the curb!!!
Hi Babs! Nice to see your smiling face! Missed you. I use the clothes guage, but I also got myself a nifty little body fat % gadget. (call me gadget gurl) Once a month or so, I check my body fat %. It's slowly moving in the right direction, but I know this isn't a race. When I weigh myself frequently, I get very depressed about the numbers. I don't own a scale, and I don't want one in my house. Personally, I don't see how daily weighing can be truely benificial. I mean, I read it here all the time where someone 'gains 5 pounds overnight" and is understandably freaked out. Well, they didn't really gain 5 pounds overnight, probably a Water thing, but they are freaked out, and that is never a good thing. scales lie. Lie lie lie.

Has any one lost friends since wls?
I'm not a closet bandster, I was outed, so there we are. If you are in the closet, any closet, I suspect that some day you will be outed. Maybe on purpose, maybe by accident. Mind you, I don't wear a sandwich board that reads "I've lost 30 pounds! Ask me how!" mmm, sandwiches People are funny, some times the folks we are sure will be the most supportive of us turn out to be real heels, while those we least expect will be our greatest supporters. I suppose lost friendships are no difference than other commited relationships that disolve after one member changes dramatically.

Has any one lost friends since wls?
I've always gotten that "high and mighty' vibe from you Alex, so I can see where she's coming from ... (**insert big wink here**) A woman I've known for gosh, 8 years or so has dropped me since I got the band. When i was on my last supervised weight loss regeim, I lost a good amount of weight, didn't keep it off, but well you know the drill. Every time I mentioned my weight loss she would quickly, I mean quickly change the subject. But when it came to her diets, she would go on and on and on. She was an enormous size 10 when she started her diet and now she's a size 4 and looks terrible. She recently started to use a rowing machine and got really good at it, but because she built up her upper body and gained muscle mass, she's pissed off at the weight gain, so she quit so she could loose the weight she gained from rowing.

Pre/Post Surgery Observations
I didn't get any pix either. I do have a nice pix of my liver though from when I had my gall bladder out. I show it to my mom when I want to gross her out.

Thyroid Questions...
Weird, my post yesterday got eaten. Okay, you've answered your own question Sweetie. You've just had major surgery, even if it was laproscopic. Your body is still healing so of course you will be more tired lately. You may not be getting enough Protein. I know that on most of the days where I'm just dragging butt I haven't had enough protein the day before. You have a baby that is probably go-go non stop, excpet for when she/he flat out colapses alseep. Keeping up with a baby can be tireing, especially when you've just had surgery.

DSL vs Cable
We have DSL at home, we had some issues initally, but haven't had any problem. One thing you must do if you have DSL or cable, (especially cable) is a good firewall. This is an absolute must. Zone Alarm and Black Ice Defender come to mind. I find Zone Alarm a little more difficult, but so many people really like it. I personally like Black Ice, I find it easier than Zone Alarm. It's been a while since I've looked at the security implications of cable for internet, but at one time, cable was like the party line system. One person on the cable network could access all systems on that segment. You do NOT want other people accessing your computer, EVER.

What Kind of Water Do YOU Drink?
At home I drink yummy tap Water . My sister/Mom/Grandma's place has a well, and it's pretty nasty. The place my sister moved from had the very best water. In my exile I drink bottled water because the water is just nasty there. One of my friends got several letters last year that the water wasnt' safe for drinking and they should boil it. Distilled water doesn't have any minerals, so I can't see how that would be for you. I was always told that Distilled water was bad for you to drink. Funny.

Thinking I Might Back Out??!!
Okay, I've re-read your post. As for your first question, I don't know why you never hear anyone regret it. For most of us, it is the very best thing we've done. So what's to regret? The band doesn't work for some people. Some folks will not follow the rules, others have structural issues that are beyond their control. But for the folks that the band doesnt' work, well, they can have it removed if there are problems. Everything goes back to normal, unless you haven't taken care of yourself and ignored serious signs out of vanity. I've heard lots of statistics bandied about, but since I haven't seen the actual data, all of those statistics are meaningless. Wll, I suspect if you are like most people, you got here becuase of the yummy food in the first place, right? You might be able to eat cake, and then again, you may not, it is entirely up to your band. And you just might find that your idea of yummy will change after you have to sit with something in your mouth chewing it to bits. Tiny little bits. I'm not a binger, I don't even understand binging. I suspect I can't even spell it, that's how much I don't understand that concept. As for being sedentary, you have two choices, you can eat less, or you can be more active. Or you can do both. Okay, so that is three choices. There is nothing wrong with saying, I think I'll give myself 6 months at the gym before I get the band. The band isn't going anywhere. The band is not going to make the pounds fall off. It won't make you prettier, or smarter or more popular. It is a tool, and you are going to be the same person you were before you got the band. If/when you loose weight all your problems are still going to be there, especially the ones that led you to gain weight in the first place.

Getting scared
I can't think of a single person here that wasn't scared before their surgery. I think it is completely normal, or at lease, completely usual. my only regret is that I didn't get banded when my DH got his band.

Yup, that is the way it is going to be from now on. You are going to become a masticating machine, a munching maniac

I was so very sorry to hear about the bombings on the news this morning. I am so very sad. I pray that all our LBT members are safe, as are their friends and families. My deepest condolences.

I'm having a Hysterectomy
Thanks Vera, it looks like they stich the cervix and the fallopian tubes into place. Heh, My ex-H was in the Navy, and he said they would send the new guys out into the shop looking for all sorts of snark hunts like the keys to the airplanes. The funniest one is where they send them out looking for some fallopian tubing. I still laugh at that one...

Adult Question....
Babalooy, honey you have no idea. I've worked in shops that were all male (except for me, I'm one of the guys though) and shops that are all women. Women are bigger horndogs than men, I'm convinced of it. Espeically secure women.

Honesty
See, if y'all were horders, you could be happy with a cup of ice cream. Because ... I have ice cream in my freezer, and it's MINE, ALL MINE. I'm safe knowing it's there because I might need it. In fact, I am sure I'll need it. Maybe not tonight, but maybe tomorrow. I never can tell.

Funniest Things Your Kids Have Ever Said
Paula, sounds like it is time for a different car seat! I only needed one for Spud when he was little, but I sure can understand why it concerns you!

Lip Piercing
I have a 5 ct ring. Of course, mine is the finest glass... I think anyway. Maybe she works for personal satisfaction? As a hobby? Some people are not happy unless they feel productive. I just don't understand the whole peircing thing. A couple of the kids in my ceramics class were into some serious piercing, like suspension piercing. On of my neices sets off metal detectors... and except for her ears, none of her's are visible

I'm having a Hysterectomy
Okay, how do they remove the uterus but not the cervix? do they attach the cervix to the falopian tubes? The cervix is sort of attached to the uterus only... 6 weeks, man, I knew I didn't have time for that! and Lisa, you are soo twisted. It looks good on you, by the way.

Carbonation
good to know. Thanks. I use good ginger ale when I feel nausious, or at least I did pre-band. I hate to use the phenegren, espeically when I just feel slightly nausious.
