Love your new profile pic Webchickadee! I always enjoy your posts. They are rational and pragmatic without being preachy. You are a huge asset to these boards!- Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
I had my numbers wrong! It should have been repeat 5 times: jog 45 walk 90 jog 45 walk 60- Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I always thought I was in no shape to run. My run is a very slow jog. The great thing about Couch to 5K is you start very slowly. Day 1 is repeat 5 times: jog 45sec, walk 60sec. 5 min warmup before and 5 min cool down after. I've had 2 knee surgeries, arthritis, and chondromalacia in both knees. I started 4 weeks after surgery when I was 237 (February 13). I'm now 208 and have 38 more pounds to goal (I'm 5'11"). If I can do it, anyone can! If things are moving around, strap them down and get moving (I love my compression shorts).- Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Thanks! I bought it, but haven't finished putting it together so I went outside for a run today. It was hot and miserable, so I'm looking forward to running indoors!- Bridge to 10K Challenge
Anyone finished up Couch to 5K and interested in a Bridge to 10K challenge? Just finished the C25K program and I'm starting the Bridge to 10K. My goal is to run a 10K in September or October and also to do the Disney Enchanted 10K in February 2014. Anyone ready to join me?- Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
I'm getting a treadmill tonight! Found a great deal on Craigslist. Running outside in Florida in the summer is no fun. The treadmill I'm getting will do a 40% incline, so I can pretend I'm climbing a mountain! I'm on week 8 of couch to 5K. Ran a 5K last weekend in Tampa, but had to interval run the last half.- Prom / wedding dress challenge
This just reminded me to try on my wedding dress from 1996. It fit! A little bit snug, but looks good. Brought back lots of memories. We were planning a destination wedding when my husband contracted bacterial meningitis. He was in a coma and on life support. When he finally got out of the hospital we decided to ditch the destination and got married on Anna Maria Island, FL on the beach with just us and the notary. My dress was a white, beachy sundress that I bought at Ross for $15. I can't believe it actually fits!- Anyone with PCOS?
I have PCOS as well as Hashimoto's and Fibromyalgia. I was lucky to get pregnant in 2000 after a strict low-carb diet for 6 months. After dealing with horrible pain from cysts and trying a uterine ablation in 2006, I had a full hysterectomy in 2008. Relieved a lot of my symptoms, but still had issues with being unable to lose weight. I had surgery 1/17/13 and have lost 56 pounds. I'm not a fast loser, but its been pretty steady. I still don't have normal energy levels, but I'm better than I was before surgery. I've lost a lot of hair, but am seeing a lot of new growth.- Hashimoto's and the Sleeve
I have Hashimoto's (137mg synthroid) and I consider myself an average loser. I think it depends more on how much you have to lose. The closer you get to goal, the slower the weight will come off. I'm 5'11", started at 265, lost 10 presurg, and have lost an additional 46lbs since then. My surgery was 1/17/13. I've only had one week where I didn't lose (this week!), but I had lost 4 lbs last week and ran a 5K on Saturday, which I think made me retain more Water. Be sure to get your thyroid hormones checked regularly since when you lose weight you may need less medicine.- Why do people make this commitment, risk their lives on a surgery table and then...
You must be reading the same message thread that I was!- Exercise? How to get committed...
The only thing that has worked for me is the Couch to 5K program and signing up for a 5K and doing it. I had surgery in January and just finished the 8 week C25K program. I ran a 5K this weekend (slowly, but I finished). I'm going to do the Bridge to 10K program next. I have osteoarthritis and chondromalacia in both knees and have had two knee surgeries, so I have a lot of excuses for not running, but if I take it slow it doesn't hurt any more than walking.- Cymbalta

- Cymbalta
I'm on 60mg Cymbalta for fibromyalgia. I've noticed I'm having symptoms that are similar to what I had when the doc increased my dosage to 90mg (sweating, temperature fluctuations, and a bit of agitation). Is anyone else on it and have you had to taper your dosage back when you lost weight? I've lost 56 lbs since January. I'm hoping to get rid of it for good sometime, so I might try gradually reducing down to 30mg. Appt with a new rheumy on Tues, so we'll see what she thinks.- Just landed in san diego!
Dr Lopez almost always has a second doc in the OR with him. I looked at it as one of the benefits of going to him. I had mine in Puerto Vallarta, so his wife, Dr. Osuna, helped with my surgery. I think Dr. Ortiz assists in TJ. Did you have Edgar as your anesthesiologist? OMG... what a hottie!- BM Rules (or BMs Rule!) :)
I tried prune juice in my Protein Shakes a few weeks after surgery, but I didn't see any change from it. I may try to add some protein to my smoothie, but right now I don't want to mess it up since its got everything working regularly again.- BM Rules (or BMs Rule!) :)
- BM Rules (or BMs Rule!) :)
Here are my BM rules: 1. If you haven't gone and you are uncomfortable, you need to take something that will give you relief overnight. I use Smooth Move Tea for this purpose. Milk of Magnesia or a product with senna will work. If you feel like you have to take it more than once a week or you have to take it because you can't have a BM without it, you need to use step 2 or 3. 2. If you regularly struggle with staying regular, you need to add Miralax or chia (or both) every day or two. Make sure you add 8ou of Water to your daily requirements if you take miralax or chia. 3. If you are chronically constipated, in addition to causing added weight, it will cause inflammation. The following smoothy will help with both. It takes about 2 weeks of daily use, but you will start feeling better. This is not for anyone that is on a pre-surgery diet or is less than 6-weeks post surgery. Recipe - 1/2 cup papaya (I buy a whole one and cut it up and freeze it.) - 4 or 5 prunes - 1/4 cup aloe vera juice - 1/4 cup prune juice, cranberry juice, or acai juice (Any juice without added sugar) - 1/4 cup berries, mango or 1/2 of a frozen banana - 1/4 cup water I throw all of it into a blender on high until it's smooth. You may need to add some more water depending on your blender. It makes about 12-14 ounces. Sometimes I add a packet of Splenda depending on the juice I've added. Papaya has wonderful digestive enzymes in it. It is especially helpful in breaking down Protein. Prunes have Fiber and a very mild laxative effect. Aloe Vera juice is a potent anti-inflammatory and has essential amino acids. It also helps increase protein absorption in your digestive system. The juice and fruit are to improve the flavor and to add variety. I think it tastes pretty good. Those of you that are on low carb plans may need to check with your NUT. I only have two rules for eating... eat enough protein (80+) and drink 64ou of water every day.- Sudden Development. What is This?
Have you been out in the sun at all? Applied any sunscreen or self tanner to yourself or kids? Had contact with any fruit or fruit juices or peppers? Any contact with bleach? Squished any stink bugs (weird, but they release a chemical when you squish them)? It looks like you've had contact with an oxidizing agent of some sort. Try putting some lemon juice on it to see if it fades. I don't think it's anything to be running to the doc about unless you have other symptoms, but definitely would mention it to them on your next visit.- First PCP visit after surgery in Mexico
My first PCP visit was identical to yours, even down to how big my doctor's eyes got when she found out I went to Mexico for surgery!- Tampa Fl Area?
I live in Safety Harbor and I absolutely love it! I love running in Phillippe Park and looking forward to taking paddle board lessons in the park in a few weeks. If you have kids, the SH summer camps are amazing! If you're moving here send me a PM with any questions you have.- Finally a New Wardrobe is in Order.
Down 50 lbs too. My favorite fitting pants are from Talbots, but they'll have to wait until I get to my goal weight. I usually wear tshirts and shorts because I work out of my house, but I'm traveling for work next week and I don't have any pants that fit. I'll be there for 3 days so I think I can get by with 2 pairs of jeans. Went to Steinmart today and I tried on a regular 16 and they fit, but a little too embellished for my work trip. Does anyone have a good place to buy plain jeans at a decent price? I haven't been out of plus sizes in over 20 years.- Chris Christie had lapband in February
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/chris_cuts_waist_oAUDrJ8Sm1fY6awWgFY6nN It doesn't mention that he considered anything else but the bypass. I know that the lapband is still popular, but only observing anecdotal reports it seems to have a high rate of failure and complications. Why do people still pick it over the sleeve? - Alchohol
