Congrats, I'm happy for you!!! I can't wait to do the approval dance myself. I will beginning my WLS journey for the 2nd time on Thursday I will meet with the surgeon. Good luck

Happy New Year!!! I waited too long to appeal BCBS only give you 14 days from the date of the denial date. I didn't know were to start or what to do the doctors office didn't seem to be of any help so I was convince Mexico was my only affordable choice for me. But know that the WLS benefits for 2013 have change I may have some hope that I will get approve this time. I have FAITH that I will get approve if for some reason I get denied I will not go down with out a fight now that I have a little more tools under my belt to fight with. In fact I will be scheduling an appt with the doctor for next wek. I will keep you in my prayers GOOD LUCK AND KEEP ME. I wish you nothing but the best a speedy recovery

Yes ma'am the fight is not over. January 1st I will be making an appointment with my bariatric doctor to get the ball rolling again. The requirements is that you have to have two or more comorbities. I will need to take the sleep study to show proof of sleep apnea and I have the proof of high blood pressure that I have had for years. If im denied this time. I'm going to Mexico

I knew nothing about 5yr history in fact there been several women at the job that had the surgery they mention nothing about it.

Hi, I work for Verizon Wireless in (Tampa). I was denied within a 3 days after submitting everything to BCBS because my BMI wasn't over 40 for 5yrs. However, I inquired with BCBS if the WLS requirement for 2013 are changing the rep told yes, she showed the contract that VZW agreed to. Good Luck keep me posted.

You are so right Sarahec every insurance company, everyone, and every situation is different IT WILL HAPPEN. I have claim it. I was so excited after speaking with the insurance company especially when I was able to see it in black & white. I cant wait for January to get here so I can start the process again. I will fight back this time if I'm denied again. I'm not worry about because IT WILL HAPPEN in 2013 . Thanks, Good Luck

Whooaa!!! I'm reading everyones replies now I'm a bit concern. I recently inquired with my employer & insurance company BCBS Florida was the WLS requirements changing for 2013. I was shown how to access the new contract my employer has agreed to. It shows a guarantee to approval with a BMI of 40 over for 5yrs (this is not me) or BMI 35 with one comorbity (my BMI 38 I have several comorbities) but IDK now after reading the stories on this forum. I have been on my VSG journey since April of this year. I pray I can get approval next year if not I will be Mexico bound.
