  1. I've read so many posts on this board about people that can't eat bread and how bad it hurts, that I'm afraid to try. I'm 10 weeks post op and haven't tried bread yet. I watched my son eat a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon the other day and was drooling. It looked so good, but I didn't even dare take a bite.
  2. My surgeon told me that any shellfish was actually the ideal source of protien, so he said to eat all the shellfish I want if I'm not allergic to it. Beleive me, he got NO arguement from me. So I eat lobster, shrimp, scallops, oysters, etc. I love fish too, and live on the coast, so I'm a happy camper. I don't have any problem with any of them. The only protien I seem to have alittle problem with is pork chops. they are kind of dry.
  3. baked crab cakes? YUM. Gazpacho Soup with crabmeat? YUM. Crab and cheese omlette? YUM. Lump crab on fresh greens? YUM. crab quiche? YUM. the possibilities are endless.....
  4. If yours is as gorgeous as mine is, you'll have ample motivation to KEEP GOING!!!! LOL I will do whatever he tells me to. I didn't even mind when he weighed me!! Isn't that awful? A woman my age........
  5. My arms are gross. The worst part is, that as I lose weight, the fat is not as dense or firm as it used to be. Now I'm squishy all over. My arms flap even more!!! Horror!!! They have gone down a bit, but those flaps....I've also noticed that when I pinch my arms in the triceps, the fat has gotten grainy feeling. Like there is uncooked rice in them thar mud flaps!! what the hell is that all about???
  6. No comment. I tried one at the gym and fell off the damned thing. I have a gorgeous young trainer, and I was mortified.
  7. I never had any port pain at all until I started exercising. The floatation belts for deep water aerobics KILL me. I have to go without one. WOW! What a workout that turns out to be!! Now that I've started doing Ab work, my port hurts all the time. I know that the port is stitched to a muscle. When this muscle tightens, does this cause the pain and soreness?
  8. I used to burp occasionally. Now I burp all the time and burp like a sailor! It's not pretty.... I get uncomfortable about an hour after I eat, and that's when the burping starts. I've learned, like the lady above, that I can force the burps and get a little relief from the gas. I feel better for about 10 minutes and the pressure builds up and here comes another one! Sometimes I get real tired of it.
  9. I got my first fill two weeks ago and NOTHING has changed. I still eat the same, feel the same, and weigh the same. Actually, this morning I'm up 3 pounds. YIKES!!! I got 3 CCs in my 10 CC band. Had one or two from surgery, so I should be around 5 CCs. He had me drink water while he was filling. He had the thing filled with 5 CCs. When the water came back up and gurgled in my throat, he very slowly retracted the saline until the water went down. I ended up with the 3. I stayed there for about 10 minutes and drank more water until he was satisfied that I could swallow safely. I was thrilled. But nothing has happened. This 3 pounds is bugging me. I go back on Feb. 6th. Should I ask for more?
  10. My DH grabbed my rapidly shrinking ass yesterday and exclaimed: "Damn, it's all gooshy and squishy now. what happened?" thanks. I needed that.
  11. I have disability insurance. It kicks in after 7 consecutive days of being unable to do your normal routine. I was out of work for 11 days after surgery so I filed a claim. AFLAC wouldn't pay it. Obesity wasn't an "illness" or accident, but since I had been fat for years, it was a pre-existing "condition". It didn't matter that it wasn't a health problem until recently. If it wasn't an "illness", what would it matter if it were a pre-existing condition? Is it or isn't it? I was furious.
  12. I'm allergic to surgical tape, but not so much the steri strips. I always ask for paper surgical tape. the rash IS awful. My last one FINALLY fell off about 2 and a half weeks later. I didn't pull them. I just kept trimming the loose edges. My problem was with spitting sutures. I had several and they were a pain in the ass.
  13. I had the same thing happen. I couldn't eat nearly as much after surgery. My tummy sometimes gets sore after exercise, and I notice it's harder to get things down. I also get WAY more gas than I used to, and that also makes me uncomfortable.
  14. Getting stuck for me was just sudden major pain right in my sternum or just below the soft spot where your ribs meet. It was awful. DO NOT drink water to wash it down. It won't help. Walk. Raise your hands over your head and be patient. When the food finally passed through my band, I could literally feel it. It was wierd. I don't recommend eating solid food afterwards.
  15. regarding stretching the pouch..... I don't feel "full" or uncomfortable until about an hour after I eat. So it's hard to tell when I've eaten to much. It's very frustrating.
  16. Lettuce no problem. I had first fill last Friday, and still no problem. Just CHEW.
  17. A couple of mine were a little swollen, but not that much. I would call the doc!
  18. Many of the vegans I know, don't know how to combine food properly and look ashen and weak. They are also anemic. Please mention the importance of food combining.
  19. I have hypothyroidism. ALL of my doctors recommended the surgery and were very familiar with my condition. My OB/GYN recommended it, My family doctor recommended it, my rhuemetologist recommended it, my cardiologist recommended it. How can I argue with that? I've had every test known to man, and they still recommended it. I'm only 8 weeks out, but I've already lost 26 pounds and I haven't been able to do that for YEARS!!!!
  20. I haven't heard of Miralax. Thanks!!! I'll run to Walgreens and see if I can find it. Any other suggestions?
  21. My port has been pretty cooperative and gentle until recently. Certain positions with sex are not very comfortable, but not painful. BUT I tried a new deep water aerobics class two nights ago. They make you were a floatation belt. If you dont cinch it up real tight, it rides up and rubs under your arm. I LOVE the class. The workout is awesome, but the belt squished my tummy and my port has been sore for two days. I'm almost 8 weeks out. Will this pass or will I have to give up the class?
  22. Greeting Texans!! I'm in Corpus Christi and congratulations on getting approval and a date. Stay with us. We'll help you through!!
  23. Congratualtions and welcome to bandland. give yourself a pat on the back for doing it.
  24. Okay...here goes. Friday: The "sweet" french bread, should be sugar free, and 100% whole wheat is always better. Salami is loaded with fat. Try a leaner meat. If it's to dry, add a little moisture without adding fat. A nice mustard maybe? The cheese (gouda) is okay. The potato augratin with cream... Cream is very high in fat. Can you substitute 2% milk? the salad is very good. Saturday: Again, watch the sugar in the brioche. Maybe limit the bread to once a day. The moule marnier is an excellent Protein. So is the fois gras, just a little high in fat, but you didn't eat a lot, so that's good. Limit wine to one glass per day? Alcohol is a lot of empty calories. the ice cream desert... Sounds wonderful. Nuts have some good protein, but they are high in fat. So is the ice cream unless you were able to get fat free ice cream. The meringue isn't to bad. It's mostly egg whites and air with a touch of sugar. I would add some more vegetables. Sunday: Again... no vegetables. The mussels are an excellent source of protein. Limit the bread. Croissants are made with butter. High in fat. Monday: Other than the chocolate bar, this looked like a good day, although it appears you may not have eaten enough. One meal a day will leave you hungry. The curry sounds wonderful. I love curry, and it helps moisten any meat. It's easy to stew things in curry without adding calories. the prawns are an excellent source of protein. If you like it, by all means continue. Yesterday: This was a lot of carbs. I too love crisps and find them very difficult to avoid. I didn't see any lean meat or vegetables. The cheese and tomatoes in the lasagna is good, but you had noodles twice. To many carbs. Today: sounds delicious. This was your best day. Yogurt with a little fruit was good. Root vegetable soup. Very good. (just remember, root vegetables are higher in carbs than other vegetables) chicken breast with cabbage. Very good. Just watch the wine. I don't know where you are from, so finding vegetables may be a problem, but some of your dishes sound wonderful.
  25. I have only told my husband and my immediate family about my surgery, and they don't live anywhere near me.... So this didn't come from anyone I know. I received a letter from a local doctor offering a special to do lipo-suction, tummy tucks and boob lifts. It mentioned helping post surgery patients. I have never heard of this doctor, and did not request this information. I know this is not a coinciedence. I have to think that someone from the hospital or my doctor's office has "sold" my medical information. There is no other explanation for this. Is this legal????
