  2. Thanks everyone. Day 4 now and a bit better. Taking prevacid amd Gasx both morning amd night seems to alleviate The dry heaves. I find that i cant tolerate my carnation Shakes so maybe lactose is an issue now. My sweet hubby Took vacation time and has been taking care of me. He found Me some protein shots today 32g per tube and they have Helped alot.
  3. I am 2 days post op and feeling miserable. My left side pulls constantly, I have been dry heaving since gettin home from the hospital yesterday and have a bit of blurred vision. So please excuse any typos. I am having buyer's remorse as well. ALl I want to do is sleep. I wake every 1.5 hours though amd walk, do my respiratory therapy and drink another ounce of something. I have been taking prvacid and gasx and they are helping some but I am having strong hunger pangs as well. Nothing tastes good. I am trying to drink a Protein shake today as my 1 ounce every 15 minuts. But, I know I have missed alot of them since I keep sleeping so much. I am praying for all of us to get better. For now, I am a bit depressed and miserable.
  4. I am on the pre-diet now, day 13 and some days are better than others. I remember on day 3 considering postponing my surgery so I could have one last Quarter Pounder. I was stressed at work, had a headache and just knew it would make me feel better. But, I didn't give in and pressed on and each day it has gotten a bit easier. The main thing is to drink lots of Water, a lot of times we feel hungry when we are actually thirsty. The Protein shakes & bars are a lifesaver as well. My doctor prescribes a two week pre-diet consisting of 5 slim fast shakes/bars and a sensible meal of baked/grilled meat (5oz) and 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables. I cannot tell you how great that one meal is!! Whatever I am having (Ground Beef Patty, Tilapia) it is the BEST I have ever tasted.
  5. Hello, I am having surgery this week and have also dealt with both good & bad reactions from some of my co-workers. My family is very supportive thank Goodness and most of my co-workers as well. But, there's one that told me not to do this, that I was having elective surgery and that I should just join her at the gym 3 x a week instead. She told me that I should just diet etc. I told her that I had done all of the research, this was Dr. supported and insurance approved and that I had prayed about it, etc. God has been there every step of the way and will continue to be. Also, I have lost and gained over the past 20 years and it has gotten me where I am today. Nowhere. I made this decision (an informed one) after 6 months of researching every option prior to ever going to a seminar, etc. I am ready to move onto the next chapter of my life and leave these co-morbidities behind. The pre-diet is rough but each day it gets easier. I know in my heart that I am doing the right thing. Go with your gut, trust your instincts. You are the one that has to take this journey. Everyone has weaknesses, mine is food. My friend (the one with the advice) smokes 1-2 packs a day but is rail thin. You can be thin and still not be healthy. I am doing this for my overall health. Sure, it will be nice to buy something off the rack in a regular deparment store but that is not the reason I am doing this surgery. I want to live and be here to see my son graduate, get married and hold my grandkids in my lap. I just keep the end goal in mind when some days are rougher than others and keep God at the forefront of my mind and He has never failed me. Best of luck to you and hope to see you on the loser's bench. I'll save you a seat.
  6. Hey all, this is Texas Gal I changed my screen name to Rebel cause someone else was using TexasGal.. Didn't want there to be any confusion. My surgery is 9/6..
  7. Good luck on Monday, mine is scheduled for Tuesday. Can't wait to talk to you on the other side, the losers bench and hear all about your success. Heck, we can share success stories, tips, etc.
  8. I also had an abnormal EKG but had done a stress test in April that was normal. I just had to send my surgeon a copy of the test and I was cleared for surgery. Woo Hoo. God is great. I am so ready to move forward with the next chapter of my life. Next week cannot come soon enough. This board has been so helpful to me pre-op and I am sure it will be post-op as well. Who knows, at some point I may actually be able to help someone else with their questions.
  9. Good luck. I can't wait to hear your success story. My surgery is 9/6 and I am so ready. I'm sure I won't sleep a wink the night before.
  10. Thanks for your support. Everyone please pray for me. My surgery date is 9/6 and I just found out today that my EKG was abnormal. I've had stress tests in the past and no problems ever. I am praying this won't delay my surgery. I've been on the pre-op diet now 9 days and am ready to be on the other side.
  11. Good for you Chanel! I am getting sleeved next week and am trying to mentally prepare for my new relationship with food. Reading stories like yours help me prepare. Thanks for sharing.
  12. I received news myself today that my EKG was abnormal. Now, having to wait for my last stress test results to be sent to the clinic. So frustrating. I will be sending you good thoughts.
  13. Mine is on September 6th.
  14. Dr. Nick is my doctor too. I go on 9/6...
  15. Good Luck! I still have 12 days to go til my surgery and this pre-diet is HARD. I look forward to hearing about your success.
  16. Thank you SO much for the words of encouragement. I am staying strong through prayer, willpower and sheer stubborness.
  17. I am on day 2 of my 2 week pre-op diet. It consists of 5 shakes/bars and a sensible meal of 5oz meat and 2 cups of non-starchy veggies. My surgery date is 9/6/11. My head is throbbing and it's not due to dehydration cause I have drank Water all day long. Plus side, getting lots of exercise from walking back & forth to the bathroom at work. It's in the very back, I'm in the very front. Anyone have any words of wisdom to offer. I am doing the slim-fast high Protein 8oz shakes and the Atkins Breakfast Bars as they had more protein than some others.
  18. Hello there, I have been lurking the past couple of weeks on here but it was your post that made me register. I too am having the sleeve surgery but on September 6th. I am on day two of my 2-week pre-op diet and have had some of the same feelings you are experiencing. I did the research, went to the seminar, did ALOT of praying and every step of the way God has removed any obstacles. I was approved 2 weeks to the day after attending the seminar and for me, at least, it seems as if this is God's will. It is difficult maintaining this pre-op diet and I had horrible headaches yesterday. But, I am praying for God to give me relief from them and the strength to continue because I know it will all be worth it. I have a young child as well and can already see the things that I am missing out on with him. Before kids I dreamed of taking them to amusement parks and Water parks and playing ball in the yard but with my present weight I am not able to go to amusement parks and I am too tired to play ball in the yard. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in January and also have diabetes. For me, this surgery will offer me the tool I need to control the amount I eat and help me to get healthy again. It won't take away my arthritis but I can imagine that the weight loss will definitely help my joints, etc. Some days I wake up excited, raring to go and others I think what in the heck am I doing? For me, I just continue to pray about it and take one day at a time. I don't know if this helps or not, I hope it does. But, you have to make the decision for yourself. My doctor said it best, it is scary to have surgery, bad things can happen but what's even scarier is to do nothing at all. Because then, bad things will happen. Just pray about it and go with your heart. Take care.
