  1. I've been considering WLS for years now but lap and bypass didn't seem to be my style. Then I learned about the sleeve and I knew that finally the right tool was finally available for my weightloss toolbox to help give me the most success possible. This past April I started contacting different drs, Medical Tourism companies, etc. to see what my best options are since I have to foot the bill out of pocket (because of blankety blank insurance). Mexico was attractive from a budget point of view, PLUS there seem to be some extremely qualified and competent surgeons there. But my s/o totally freaked out at the thought of me leaving the country for surgery and so I will be having the sleeve done in the USA...which I'm totally good with. Currently I have selected a Dr., spoke with him over the phone last night (which I found to be totally cool...never had a surgeon call me before) and am now waiting for the list of tests I need run, talk to my pcp, etc. Needless to say, I am excited and nervous about the whole process! This dream could become a reality in less than a month!
  2. Wonderful NavyMom! I'm starting my journey too...will be having the VSG. What can you tell us about the super sleeve other than there is no cutting? Is it considered to be reversible?
  3. *raises hand* displaced Yankee in Western KY here...we're an hour or so from Bowling Green.
  4. Not a sleever yet (hopefully soon!) but at one point I did lose a significant amount of weight (went from a 22W to size 8) and I can tell you that although I knew I was much much thinner, my self-image was wrapped up in being the fat chick and I still felt huge. I managed to keep the weight off for a few months before it started creeping back on and honestly I did not really notice the weight was coming back until about 20 lbs had rejoined my bod. Now that I am 275 I don't feel that huge and again, when I look in the mirror I don't see a morbidly obese woman, but I know I am. It's odd that the brain does this...cannot see how large I am yet when I was skinny couldn't truly come to terms with recognizing that fact either. That is why I'm committed to having counselling while I go through my sleeve process. It is available through my employer and I will be using it so that I don't pay out all this money, lose the weight then screw it all up because my head isn't on straight. Keep going with what your're doing OP. Maybe it just takes more time to come to terms with identifying as being that thin person instead of the years of being the overweight person. I have never been able to keep the weight off long enough to come to that conclusion, hence the therapy.
  5. My s/o isn't thrilled with my mulling over the possibility of VSG either. For him I think it is a money thing as I will have to be self-pay and he thinks that if I just eat more salad my 40 plus year weight problem will go away. Mostly his issue is that he doesn't like change in any form and if/when I will have VSG then I will change. He has been like this way for as long as I have known him (fearing change). What I have learned is that he will come around eventually and often claim the idea as his own, lol. So basically, I do take his input into consideration but temper it with the knowledge of his fear of change and then trust my gut instinct on things. My considerable gut is telling me it is past time to take action.
  6. I didn't know that pills were an option. That has to be better than drinking liters of that stuff that tasted like what I imagine liquid Pledge would taste like!
  7. :smile1:What I'm really wanting to know is how people with such small stomachs can hold the amount of drink required before colonoscopy. Sorry I wasn't more clear in my first attempt.
  8. So glad you asked these questions! I am also considering VSG and have gotten great info from this thread. Thanks!
  9. Hello All, I'm new here. Am considering VSG but am wondering if anyone can tell me about having other procedures after VSG like colonoscopy. We have a family history of colon cancer so routine colonoscopies are not optional...so...how do you drink down all the "stuff" you need to drink in order to have a colonoscopy? The taste is bad enough, but I do have a very full feeling in my stomach with an entire stomach...just trying to imagine how this can be done (drinking 2 liters) with a stomach that holds just a few ounces?
