Congrats Kelly: I had my surgery on April 26th. I am down forty pounds and I feel great. I am off my blood pressure meds and my diabete's is gone. It is a tool to use. But, it makes you lose weight. I miss eating sometimes. It was and is a hugh part of my life. I just can't eat the volumn I use to. I now understand why they say that you mourn food. It is such a large part of what we do in this country. We celeberate everything with food. I like the fact that I can breath, sleep and move so much easier. I enjoy the fact that I can buy regular clothes. No more visits to the big girl department. Keep up the good work.

I have been taking pepcid tabs since day 3 also. I crush my calcium still. I can swallow them but it feels a little strange. I used chewable vits till last week. Now I take regular one a day vits without problem. I do 1000mg of B-12 every sunday. Those are sublingual. You have to do what feels good. Your new hot dog size stomach will let you know.

Hi: I would push for a second sleep study. Explain your issues. I had a issue because I am a night worker and am use to sleeping during the day. Stay awake for an extended period of time to be sure that you are tired. Do you have other co-morbidies. Are you diabetic, high cholestrol, high blood pressure, or arthritis. Sleep apnea is the one that makes the insurance companies pay off. It is very costly for them to pay for the c-pap machines, and all the supplies that come with it. Aetna, Blue Cross and United are the 3 that are the best at approving the surgery. They have come to understand that doing nothing is far more costly for them than if they approve the surgery. Beside paying for the c-pap machine, the cost of medications are hugh. As you get older, you are greater risk for MI or Stroke and many other things. So, the bean counters for these insurance company's see the writing on the wall and let us have the surgeries. Aetna just starting approving the sleeve about two weeks before I had mine. Good Luck.

I am 5 weeks out. I have been using the tread mill for 2 weeks. I have a Gilad exercise dvd that I will start on Monday. I'll go easy on the stomach stuff for a week. At 6 weeks I am told I can do abd exercises. I am anxious to be able to do a full work out.

Hi Judy: My name is Judy also. Dr. Nick did my surgery in mid-april. I have lost 35 pounds. Dr. Nick is a great surgeon. I had zero problems and recovery was quick. Are you aware that Dr. Nick also teaching other doctors to do the surgery at the big Baylor hospital in downtown Dallas. I had my surgery at the Baylor Plano facility. He has 2-3 locations that they do the surgery. I highly recommend him. He is very professional and straight forward. He will answer every question that you have and his office staff is wonderful as well. Call the office and speak with them. You will be glad that you used Dr. Nick.:thumbup:

I had the sleeve done because it has the least risk of the three surgeries in my opinion. The band can cause skin erosion and ulcers. Having a second surgery to remove it is risky as well. Weight loss is slow. I know others who have been very dissatified with the band and have had it removed and the sleeve done after all. The band requires a lot of trips to the doctors office for fills and maybe even unfills. Getting poked in the belly each time you need a fill is a risk for infection. It is a foreign object in your body. No way to know how your body will react to that as well. Just the time it takes out of your life. I don't know about you, but I work at keeping as many minutes of my personal time as possible for the fun stuff. My surgery was done by Dr. Nick Nicholson here in Dallas. He is the best. He teachs other doc's to do this surgery. I don't know how old you are. I am assuming over 18. Mom has no say in what you have done. You get to make that decision. She is worried, I get that. I have six kids of my own. Sometimes you just have to step away and respect the child's (your an adult) decision. Good Luck:thumbup:
