Home Remedies to Thwart Digestive Distress
hehehe. turkey jigglers.... Ok so here goes an unladylike question. Why cant I fart? they keep saying I need to fart but no farts are coming even though there is plenty of rumbly gas! I have been walking all around upstairs downstairs everywhere and not even a little poot. Also, um...where is the dinner I ate sunday night? it has not made any sort of appearance either yet. /getting a bit worried, anyone else experience this?

tell me this won't last forever
Where do you get these little cans of tuna or chicken salad of which you speak? Whole foods has a yummy ready made chicken salad but it is yummy due to green onions, walnuts and grapes and lots of dairy free mayo. I'm thininkin it might be puke city if i tried that any time soon.

its the night before surgery and all through the house...
It is so great to hear from all of you! Angel,Norma,Susan, JSM, Chancie,Lisaan,Daisy and the teeny tweeny Carolyn! Yes, knock on wood I seem to be pretty ok. Making sure I am walking alot and doing the beathing and staying determined to channel health and wellness rather than focusing on anything else. I am worried about newmom right now though. She is having a lot of problems with dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and pain. They are giving her things but it isnt seeming to help. I hope she feels better soon. I offered to spritz her with some rosewater but she declined. well, I know it wont last much longer, hope she does too. xoxoxoxo -joon

butternut squash souffle
I hope you like it! dutch ovens are just kind of heavy cast iron pots with lids and sometimes they have an enamel coating. Like Le Cruset which are shamefully expensive. I have an antigue one I got for my wedding and another one my sister found for me at TJ Maxx where she loves to shop (I hate sifting). And I use them for everything from desserts to soups roasts and stews and helmets in case of sniper fire.

its the night before surgery and all through the house...
Thank you guys for all the love, I feel it over here and am spreading some down the hall to newmom also! So it really was quite amazing, the service and my room here is wonderful. I have spoken to the surgeons several times and the nurses are not too over worked to actually respond when you need something immediately! I unpacked before surgery and put my stuff away in the nice little drawer shelf, threw my suitcases in the closet and feel this looks very homey. So new went first and came out fine. I went in and nerves grabbed hold of me but there was such a hustle and bustle...and then I was in recovery next to new. She was fine, I was fine and we both went "ahhhh" then I fell back to sleep and new went back to her room. I wanted to go too but the two ton logs lying on the bed in front of me would hear nothing of it. After a couple hours went back to the room and made calls mom, hubs and then walked over to visit new. Then she came and visited me a bit ago. Think I'll go again now. Just to ask, I can deal with the pain of deep breaths and some twisting etc, non of that is pain that I shold worry about in terms of popping or ripping somethng is it?

around 45 or so thats when i make it in an average size dutch oven. If you cooked it in a flat pan it may be shorter.

I am in the hosptial
Daisy! Sorry about this! i hope you feel better soon. Surgery is always one of those things that just gets worse before it gets better and hopefully rreeeeaaaally better. Sounds like recovery wont be fun but as long as you can get through day to day you will be happier overall. Thinking of you and sending lots of good energy.

its the night before surgery and all through the house...
Hey all! newmom and I arrived this morning and had a brief scare because we couldnt find the driver! Well, he was just running late so we were relieved to see him about 11:40 or so. We went to the hospital after a scenic drive though newmom expected it to be much closer, I had googled it to see the distance so I knew we were in for a couple hours. So after hospital tests and wierd ekg's involving suction cups around the sha shans, we were sent off to the hotel. We were starving so decided to ask for some good close restaurants. We got directions to someplace but in following them found ourselves in a spot that was...shall we say less than savory. besides for the fact that everything was closed anyway so even if we had wanted to go into the sex boutique, we couldnt have. Ended up eating at an italian restaurant in the hotel. Now though I popped the ativan they gave me for sleep I cant sleep! It is only 9pm for me....so ......whats new? Fun and exciting news?

butternut squash souffle
Hey all, this is a recipe my old boss taught me and I think it is just delicious! It just struck me that it would be a good recipe to share for the mushy phase at the very least and maybe more around the thick soup phase. It is reminiscent of pumpkin pie but better in my opinion. One butternut squash ( any size) peeled cubed and boiled to soft ( usually buy it already peeled and cubed at Whole Foods, the peeling and cutting is the hardest part) 4-5 eggs lightly beaten 1 1/2 c milk ( I use soy) 4-5 Tablespoons earth balance ( or butter ) soft or melted dash of vanilla dash of salt 2 Tablespoons flour 1/2 cup Agave nectar 1/2 cup erythritol or splenda or brown sugar Smash up the cooked squash, you can use a food processor or blender if you want it smoother or just fork smash if you like a little more texture. Mix it all together and bake at 350 until the center is slightly firm to the touch. Only word of caution is dont add the eggs directly to the squash when it is hot or you will end up with egg drop squash.

2 days until we leave!
Angel, Thank you! I know you are right, I keep searching for some evidence of someone who has not been successful and it isnt there! I will just keep trying to relax. I need to do a little yoga I think every day. Thats funny about the puppy sitting...it totally is a mom thing! What cruel force of nature programmed us this way ( hehe). I think I am actually less worried about myself and more worried about my family being here without me. As if they cant possibly survive without me, which is ridiculous because they have many times and can. Actually, I even went to a prep kitchen and prepared a bunch of meals with my 5 yr old daughter ( who thought it was the greatest time ever) to keep in the freezer for them and our wonderful nanny/housekeeper will cook them so they are ready when my husband gets home. There is nothing to worry about...yet, I worry. I love that you call him "bearded"! I think I only actually use my husband and daughters real names when I am mad. Otherwise they are Lovie, Bubs, Noon, Bongo etc. I think I have programmed so that they will answer to practically any verbalization that remotely resembles a summons. It runs in the family though. My sister called her husband Daisy for years until they were in Home Depot one day and their then 4 yr old son called out "daisy!" and my brother in law replied and noticed the looks he got from all the other tough dads. After that he banned her from calling him daisy and requested to be referred to with only tough sounding names like "rocky" or "bruiser" which is extra hilarious because he is 6'2 and willowy strong and looks every part the pretty boy attorney that he is.

2 days until we leave!
Norma, Ugh! I am so sorry about your knee! I hope that your knee is pain free as soon as possible. Thanks for the encouraging words. I keep convincing myself that I am nervous about anything other than the surgery when in reality that is probably what it is. SOO glad to have found this forum to talk to.

2 days until we leave!
Only 2 days before newmom and I will be heading out! I had my last day at work today and as is murphy's law had sooooo much to do all of a sudden. Going to have to have some phone calls tomorrow but mostly dine until after Thanksgiving. So I find myself wondering again and again how is it possible to have weight loss stalls when your calorie intake is so low? I mean, have you heard of anyone who has just flat out failed with this surgery in the absence of complications? And no, even though its 2 am I am not up because of nerves, I'm up because our new puppy is getting on my freakin nerves because he wont settle down and go to sleep! I'm so irritated at the nanny for not taking him on a walk today because now I am the one who cant sleep all night. For some reason, it is only me who can't ignore the whining...I guess its a mom thing.

Having Surgery Nov 23rd DR Aceves
Good luck to you too Done! And thanks to everyone for the support. I am getting very excited. I definitely think I am gaining 5 pounds before I go though as I keep making sure to have all my favorite things I think I wont eat for a loooong time. I hope I have the effect of losing my taste for sweets, that would be great. I have been having bagels, cream of wheat with butter and sugar, oatmeal cookies, korean bbq, pasta, Pho, frozen yogurt. But I do feel like I am forcing myself sometimes to eat something a little less healthy even when I would just prefer some fresh pineapple or some green tea. It is wierd. I ordered a couple books on emotional eating that I am going to start reading on the plane on the way to SD. I actually love broth of all types and tea so I hope that helps me get through the liquid phase. I dont however drink sweet drinks so I am a little worried about getting in the protein. Anyone know of a powder that can be added to broth or tea without too much texture or flavor? most of the protein drinks are sweet sounds like.

Worried that I will be the only one...
Thanks for all the support! IT means a great deal. I think my surgery date is going to be moved up to next week actually! That is a lot sooner than I originally planned but will work out well I think.

Worried that I will be the only one...
Thanks Tiff :-) I appreciate that, and I know you are right. I dont doubt the decision to get it, and there is no reason why I would be so different from all the others on this board who have had great success with the procedure.

Worried that I will be the only one...
who has this procedure done and then doesnt lose weight. I am having anxiety that I am somehow going to be the person who has it done and finds a way to still not lose weight. I dont know why I think I have so much less self control than everyone else. I am probably a little below average like many people and others seem to be successful with it so why am I so worried I wont be?
