  1. Hi, I've been lurking for a while and have decided to get sleeved in January with Dr. Joya. The thing that scares me most about the entire process is the 2 week pre-op diet! I get hunger headches in the afternoon as it is eating 2000 calories a day of relatively healthy food (following food pyramid guidelines). Is it really as bad as I think it's going to be? Thanks!

    NSV shout outs

Wow! You're doing GREAT! That's wonderful!!! I'm 4 wks out have only lost 11 lbs.... Are you going to the support group tomorrow at NE Baptist?
  3. Hello, I'm really trying to keep up beat about it. The first 10 pounds I lost the first week and then just one pound. I had surgery on January 19th and was 220. Wk1: 210 wk2: 210.9 Wk3: 211.2 (TOM) Wk4: 209 What I'm Doing Right: - Planning, tracking, weighing and measuring my food; 1/2 c to 2 oounces at a time - Keeping weekly Protein average at about 70g - Keeping carbs under 40 - Keeping calories 600- 800 - Good with Vitamins Being honest with myself, what I need to do better: - Drink more water; yesterday was the first day I got in the full 64 ounces - Exercise - haven;t started yet; walked my dog yesterday for 20 minutes - Less Fat! My surgeon recommends 20g a day and I've been averaging about 40g so maybe that's the culprit here. I'm trying to look on the upside that it averages to 2.75lbs a week which is respectable and hey, can't remember the last time I've lost 11lbs in 4 weeks. But of course, it's disappointing when you're not one of the ones losing 20 pounds the first month. Sigh.....

    Am I doing Ok?

Ouch! I hope you feel better soon! Sounds like it could be bug of some time....
  5. Well, I've been home since Wednesday night and am feeling some major discomfort and am trying to stay away from the liquid vicodin since its not bad pain and the medicine burns going down. I'm very sore from the staples and am having a hard time resting comfortably. No major gas but lots of stomach gurgling... I think my stomach is growling but I'm not even hungry. I can barely finish a Jello cup and get the broth in. I haven't yet drank the 64 ounces yet feel like I'm sipping all day. I walked around the grocery store yesterday and still get up and walk laps around the house every few hours. I'm feeling very tired and restless, but thankfully, not hungry and have no desire to eat. It does hurt a little when I hiccup or burp. Thanks for listening...

    Home & Sleeved (1/19)

Right now my diet is broth, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. Next week I'll have some fat free re-fried Beans, low carb yogurt and low fat cottage and ricotta cheese and Protein drinks with lactose free milk. My surgeon was Dr. Gonzalez in San Antonio assisted by Dr. Cavazos - both are wonderful and its a wonderful bariatric center that they have.
  7. I'm on day 4 of my two week pre-op diet consisting of 2-3 Protein shakes a day and one "palm sized meal" of fish, chicke or pork with veggies and very limited fat. The pre-op diet scared me most, more than surgery and leaks! I must say it does get better each day and it's nice that I've dropped about 4 lbs. Things I'm doing that maybe I shouldn't: - I feel best in the morning and not hungry, so I don't have a Protein Drink for Breakfast. I hold off until about 11:30 or noon. Then I'm hungry and have the other two around 2:00 and 4:00. Then I white knuckle it to 6:00 and have supper. - The first night I shoved a handful full of parmesean cheese in my mouth I was so hungry when I walked through the door after work. - The second day I had a fingerful of Peanut Butter after work - again, just so hungry. - Last night before bed (I didn't eat before bed the first two nights, went to bed starving) I had a 60 calorie single serve brocoli and cheese mixed with a 50 calorie single serve corn; drizzled olive oil and mrs. dash on it. - Sometimes I use 2% milk instead of skim milk for the shakes, they just taste so much better! I sampled a lot of Proteins before started and really like the Jay Robb stuff, so I've been using the strawberry and chocolate and also the nectar vanilla torte. - I'm hoping that this gets easier every day. I'm fine in the morning and after I eat, but 2:00 - 6:00 is just brutal - that's when I get headaches. I can handle stmoach pangs, its the headaches that are hard. Thanks for listening.

    Confession Time

I'm sorry you're struggling! I've been seeing a therapist for about 7 years and she says we're going to have to step it up after surgery - that there will be a little depression even though we want this surgery and it means only good things, it's hard letting go of a lot of the feelings and behaviors we have. Hang in there....

    Times A Flyin'!!!

You'll be fine! Don't worry! It was a very low key morning... Can't wait to hear how it goes!
  12. I've been doing the same thing! Trying to find good proteins shakes for pre-op. I read about Vitalady and order some samples about the nector protein drinks, I really like them and will order more samples and maybe even a canister.
  13. This is the pre-op diet: DIET: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner should be low calorie protein shakes or Non fat yogurt. We highly recommend a company by the name of REVIVAL SOY http://www.revivalsoy.com or go to a health store and look for a low calorie protein shake. The rest of the day or if you are still hungry at meal time you can have clear liquids. You should drink about 8 glasses of water or more a day. And Jell-O the low calorie kind is a clear liquid. Other clear liquids are beef and chicken broth, apple and grape juice, nonfat milk, and cranberry juice.
