    First fill!

I am so excited I had a conflict with my first band fill appointment on 11/11 and thought I would need to push it back. Low and behold I will be moving it up a week. One week from today. Is it normal for me to be excited for this? I'm ready to get this tool working for me!

    September 30, 2013

Hi there! Newbie here and not real sure how this works. I had band placement surgery on 9/30/13. So far I feel great except for a little soreness at my port incision and ab soreness when I move certain ways. I am so over the liquid diet but have to stay on it until 10/30. I have my first fill scheduled on 11/11 and I can't wait to get this band working. On my first visit to the Sarasota memorial hospital comprehensive bariatric program I was 290#. At the time of surgery I was 284#. Now at the 15 day post surgery mark I'm at 264#. Not sure what else to say here right now but this seems like a cool way to hear about others experiences with the band at about the same placement time.
  4. Hmmm, I think both sides of my belly feel heavy. Looking forward to first fill on 11/11!

    Potential Bandie

Good luck to you! I just had band placement surgery on 9/30 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and will be getting my first fill on 11/11. I can't wait to get this band working. I am so happy to have made the decision to have LAP band.
  6. I had my band placement surgery on Monday 9/30, two weeks ago tomorrow. I am on liquid diet of Protein shakes, protein shots, puréed low fat Soups, low sodium V8 juice and lots of Water. The most substantial foods I am currently eating are cottage cheese and cream of wheat. I have two more weeks of this diet. It it difficult for me I am craving other good foods all the time and try to stave off the cravings with sugar free Jello, sf pudding and/ or sf Popsicles or any of the foods listed above. I have lost almost 30 lbs since starting my pre surgery diet and about 20 lbs since surgery. I love that part of it and I can have very strong will power to see the liquid diet through for two more weeks, then in a month I go for my first band fill. What I hope to get an idea of from all of you in this forum, that have already provided so much information to me in this process, is what to expect with my hunger levels after I get my band filled? Will I be full and still crave food? At what point does the brain catch up with the band and stop filling me with hunger anxiety? Oh yeah I also need to mention that I am an Executive Chef at a private club with casual and fine dining cuisine. That really does not help with my food anxiety either.

    New whey protein bullets

I have found these to be very helpful right now as I'm on full liquid diet. I agree they are not tasty but very effective as a quick "meal". I had a case of fruit punch flavor. I just ordered a case of assorted favors from vitacost.com to try other flavors.

    Hungry: two weeks post op

I have been recommended to be on full liquid for 30 days by my surgeon. I have a little less then 2 weeks left. I have been eating yogurt, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, purée soups, protein drinks, crystal light, & lots of water. Couple of recommendations that have been helping me out because the urge to eat something substantial gets intense. Blend cottage cheese in food processor with seasoning salt, pepper and dried dill, better then it sounds. There is a line of canned soups called Annie's and there are several low fat ones. I have been heating them up and blending them with the blender, very satisfying. Good luck!

    How Much Did You Lose?

    Thanks so much!
  10. My surgery is through Sarasota Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Bariatric Program and my surgeon is Dr. Scott Stevens. Surgery was on 9/30/13. I have been extremely impressed with Stevens and the entire program including everyone involved. In no particular order; Patrice, Stella, Sue, Linda, Laura and of course Scott. If you all happen to read this THANK YOU VERY MUCH, YOU ARE WONDERFUL! Sarasota Memorial Hospital staff were amazing as well for both my band placement surgery and a surgery my wife had a couple years ago. I have had one follow up with Dr. Stevens since surgery and he was very helpful and informative. His office staff are also great. I look forward to my next visit which will be my first fill.

    Hungry: two weeks post op

Thanks 5.0. I'm going to stick it out. It's just two more weeks and I will begin to eat solid foods. It's worth it because I am losing weight on this liquid diet. I will appreciate real foods so much and I think they will taste so good after all this yogurt, cottage cheese and cream of wheat. I actually like all three of these things but never thought I would be eating hem exclusively.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words Wendy. I do have soups and puddings and such and relish those moments even though there are so many things I would rather eat. I am a real salty/savory guy. While I do appreciate sweets a bit it's the yummy savory things I crave that gives me anxiety. Thanks for letting me know that it gets better.

Wow Razzle! I have had the same type of fears about band slipping and such but physically I have had no problems. In fact my surgery was on Monday and I went back to work on Wednesday. For that very fear of band slipping and port flipping I am following the recommended diet to the tee. After re-reading my post I want to clarify just in case is was unclear. I have lost 30 lbs total since starting pre-surgery diet and 20 of it I've lost since the actual surgery. My port incision is still kinda tender and sore how have your wounds healed so far? Good luck to you as well!
