    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

Hi there! I hit my year mark on July 26 and have lost about 42 pounds just like you. I agree - Everyone's body is different and I am grateful for this loss. Hang in there! I know for me I have to watch the choices I'm making and amp up the exercise.
  2. Hi everyone! I'm still a little unclear on the following: what is the difference between PBing and vomiting? I've been stuck before and have had the food come back up with a lot of slimy stuff (sorry for grossness but to me this seemed like throwing up. Any feedback is appreciated!

    Question for All

Thanks! I know I've been stuck and what comes up definitely has slime and almost resembles vomit in a way so I'm not sure what it is. It seems like I get that tight feeling in my chest if I eat too fast or too much and I feel immediate relief after it comes up. I think maybe what I've experienced is more like regurgitating than vomiting but it rarely involves a burp. Thanks again for the input!!
  4. I had my 3rd fill last Monday - I'm at 9.5 ccs. I'm not 100% sure on the band size, I was told its a Realize C band. So I've lost about 28 lbs give or take since July 26. My question is - how do I know if I need another fill? I do get a tight feeling in my chest which my dr told me may mean I'm eating too fast. I get this weird gurgling sound in my throat when that happens. However, other than that I can eat pretty well. Any feedback is much appreciated!!
  5. I was awoken in the middle of the night with what I believe was gas pain. It started in what felt like my intensities and slowly and painfully worked its way down. The pain was pretty bad - I hobbled around the apartment to find the gas x strips which eventually helped and the pain went away. Anyone experience anything like this? Thanks much

    Terrible gas pain

Wow ! So sorry that happened to you! Are you feeling better today? I was fine after the gas-x kicked in. Is this just a common thing with the lap band? I'm about 2.5 months post op and have never had any gas issues.

    I'm confused

I asked about the exact reasons for the post-fill diet restrictions and I was told by my PA that if I ate solids right away after a fill it could become stuck or I could vomit (which obviously no one wants to do). I follow a pretty strict post-fill diet and I just want to understand the specifics - the stomach is swollen after a fill, correct? And I understand that going slow and reintroducing the phases of food slowly is safe because each person experiences levels of restriction differently. Can anyone expand on this? My post fill diet is as follows: 3 days of Clear liquids 1 week of high Protein liquids and puréed foods (I can have yogurt, Protein shakes, sf pudding and puréed veggie soups) 1 week of soft foods (eggs, tuna with low fat mayo, flaky fish) and then back to reintroducing regular foods slowly. Thanks everyone!!
  10. I'm scheduled to have my 2nd fill this Friday. I have 4ccs in my band now. Surgery was 7/26 and I had a 20 pound weight loss since surgery that is probably around 17 pounds now since I gained a few back. Has anyone else experienced this before getting to good restriction? Thanks for your feedback - it's much appreciated!!

    2nd fill this friday

Sorry - my surgery was 7/26, not 6/26. Thanks!!
  13. Hi All - I received my first fill on 8/23, banded on 7/26. I received 4 ccs. I've been doing great, have lost about 20 lbs since surgery and I have had (thankfully) no issues to dates. From what I gather on here my surgeon is a bit conservative. I followed my post op diet to the letter. I got through all stages great and introduced solid foods without issue. Now, after my 1st fill I did 3 days of Clear liquids, 1 week of thick liquids and now I am on mushies. Tomorrow I will start a week of soft foods. Then onto reintroducing "regular" foods again. Admittedly I've had some foods that were not in my allowed stage. I'm back on track. My question is - is the reason for the slow introduction of liquids to solids to ensure swelling is going down and that you can tolerate what's being introduced after each fill? I know every doctor and every patient is different. I'm worried that maybe I did damage to my band or my pouch. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
  14. Thank you so much for replying. I'm working hard on following the instructions I've been given. Glad to hear that you haven't had any problems!!

day 4 post op NSV !!

That's great!! Good luck to you - it does get better each day. I was able to pull my jeans down yesterday without unbuttoning or unzipping!! Such a great feeling!!
  16. Looking for thoughts on sugar-free hard candy - I'm on 3 days of clear liquids after my first fill and I'm wondering if its ok. Any feedback is appreciated!!
  17. I find this difficult at times as well. My instructions are that I can drink up until I eat. Then I am to wait 30-60 minutes after eating to drink again. I usually make 30 minutes but not much longer most of the time.
