Both my surgeon and nut told me they no longer restrict caffeine or coffee. They said in the past they did restrict it no longer think its necessary. My hobby is roasting coffee and modifying (improving) espresso machines so this was welcome feedback.

My surgery date is 12/10 also. You've done better than I have dieting pre-op. I'm on day 4 of my 3-week pre-op diet and down 9 pounds. Need to compensate for an extended set of food funerals up until last week.

Yes, taking benedryl at night and Claritin during the day. Also stopped the whey shakes, but no relief yet. My wife thinks its due to surgery stress but I'm not convinced.

So, my whey shake induced rash has continued, but I lost another 3 pounds. Oddly , I'm really not hungry.

Yesterday was first day of pre-op diet and I thought it went well. Around 10 pm I noticed a rash on my neck and face and it continued today. Went to the dr and he thinks I'm allergic to the whey in my shakes. Ordered a new type w/o whey but what a pain in the a$$. On a positive note I lost 2 lbs.

Day 1 of my pre-op diet wasn't bad. I expected it to be much worse. I'm really looking forward to the pounds falling off me - both pre-op and post-op.

I started my 3-week pre-op diet this morning.y bariatric advantage strawberry shake was ok for breakfast. Looking forward to cottage cheese and raw vegetables for lunch. Mmmmm ...

I start mine Tuesday 11/19 for 3 weeks with surgery 12/10. Soups not allowed on mine but I can have 3 oz chicken or cod. This morning we went out for breakfast for perhaps my last full breakfast (I spared nothing).

I'm told to crush my pills larger than an eraser head post op. My dr told me to put in apple sauce but how can I do that during my first 2 weeks while on liquids? Putting in Water could get rough ... How did you guys deal with this? Thanks Andrew

Congratulations on your success!! My surgery is scheduled for December 10th and I'm pretty freaked out about it. It's very helpful to read about success stories like yours to keep me grounded.

I hope you're doing ok with the pre-op diet. I start mine 1 week from today and am not looking forward to it. I've been sampling Protein Shakes and so far I hate them all .... I told my boss and a few co-workers that I was going to be out for surgery due to a hiatal hernia, which may be partially true. Had an upper GI and it was inconclusive as to whether or not I have one and my surgeon said if he see's one he'll just repair it. So, I'm going with that, for now ... I'm pretty nervous about the surgery. How are you holding up?

I'm fighting with the same issue. Surgery date is December 10 and I've only told a few people. My wife and I come from large families and not sure how I'm going to explain my absence on both Christmas Eve and Day. I may just say I had hernia surgery ...

Everyone else seems to be getting a head start in weight loss before surgery except me. I lost 13 lbs since starting the process but gained it back. Damn ...

I'm scheduled to have surgery December 10. My surgeon is having me do a 3-week liquid/low-cal diet. arghhh.... Today I told my boss that I'm having surgery in December but said it was for a hernia repair. No regrets as I know she'll be blabbing to everyone .... Also, I'm pretty sure she'd have tried to talk me out of WLS and I don't want to hear it. Andrew

I'm with you. Never had surgery or been in the hospital overnight. I was just approved and getting my surgery date tomorrow (hopefully). Very nervous about the surgery, but given my level of obesity and co-morbidities my risks are probably higher NOT doing the surgery. Best of luck ... Andrew

Had my Upper GI this morning. Officially I'm clean but the Dr said they debated for a while as to whether or not I have a hiatal hernia. Meanwhile I'm telling everyone in my office that they found a HH which sets the stage for my cover up story. Andrew

One thing I'm having a rough time with is who to tell about my surgery. So far, I've told my wife, daughter, 2 siblings (out of 4) and 2 friends. One friend has been trying to talk me out of it since I told him but everyone else has been supportive. Still not sure what I'm going to tell my boss. I thought of saying I'm having hernia surgery, but then I'll have to lie when the weight loss starts. Also, I'm close friends with 2 people at work and hate to lie about all this, but still feel awkward talking about it. My boss is a busy-body and she told me about someone else having weight loss surgery (and she wasn't supposed to tell anyone). I thought of telling all 3 of them and telling them they are the only ones that know, so that they can talk amongst themselves instead of to others if they feel that need. I dunno ... Also, hesitant to tell my mother beforehand as she is so full of bad advice. I could picture her begging me not to do it and calling daily about it. She could go the other way, but just not sure. If I'm on the liquid diet on Thanksgiving, that will difficult to explain ... What's your plan? Andrew

Thanks! My pre-op appointment with the surgeon is 11/4 and they'll be scheduling a surgery date. I'm told they schedule out 2 - 6 weeks. Looks like it'll be happening something between Thanksgiving and Christmas ... Do you have a surgery date? -Andrew
