  1. Here's my favorite soft food recipe. I ate this Mexican food for weeks and weeks before I got tired of it. My favorite version used ground turkey meat, but I did try ground chicken breast - it just didn't absorb the flavors as well as the turkey meat. I'd make a big batch on Sundays and it'd last me for the week. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31168-my-favorite-mexican-food/
  2. I know what you mean, we just become more aware of the food around us. I do the same thing when I get a new car, suddenly I start noticing every time I see the same model all around me. I think America is obsessed with food - on my basic cable tv channel lineup there are at least 3 channels dedicated to food and cooking, the history channel and discovery channel have shows about food history, food at holidays, the best places to pig out, the most exotic/expensive/biggest places to eat. I think only in America do we Celebrate pigging out.
  3. I finally felt thinner, the first time I could tuck my shirt in and didn't have to worry about pulling the tail out when I raised my arms above my head! :-P I started out at 374, I could see the lbs falling when I got on the scale, but it wasn't until I started having NSV's like: having to adjust my car seat closer to the steering wheel, realizing I could cross my legs without having to use my hand to assist getting my leg in place, buckling my seat belt without having to pull the belt all the way out to reach the buckle, and when I realized I had started bending over to put on my shoes instead of having to sit on the bed to get my foot close enough to my hands.
  4. Hello my fellow VSG'rs. This Frequently Asked Question is a 2'fer. I answer the questions: Did you have pre-surgery anxieties and did you have one last hurrah with a Food Funeral? 5. Yeah, it was like that for me too - no memory of the OR whatsoever. I did prefer the stuff they gave me for the EDG. There was no countdown with that one. When they gave me the stuff, it felt like I had blinked, I closed my eyes and opened them... and it was over. The staff laughed at me because I put the bite guard back in my mouth, thinking I had let it slip out before the surgery had started. They had taken it out.
  6. My diet revolves around black beans, lentils, pork loin, chicken breast, ground turkey meat, Brussel sprouts, yellow squash and as of yesterday - spaghetti squash. When they're available, I like oranges, pineapple, apples, and grapes. My dad's satsuma tree produces in the winter, right now I'm snacking on them. I tend to avoid anything that is processed or really limit my intake of it.
  7. My first real food was at a Mexican restaurant - beef fajitas and guacamole. But it wasn't much of either. I literally had about 5 tablespoons of food in total on my plate, but it was good. And Frankensleeve grumbled the whole time. :-P
  8. I review ISOPURE Whey Protein Isolate, why I use it and how you can use whey protein to boost the protein levels in your recipes. 9. This is just a repost of info I did a few days ago. I checked this morning, the free Atkins bars and kit is still available online. Saw a commercial for a free Atkins starter kit that included 3 free Atkins bars. I signed up, they only wanted my name, email and address - no credit card or any other requirements. http://community.atkins.com/registration.aspx

  11. First time trying it tonight. I didn't do too good a job of cooking it - split it in half, put the halves on a pizza pan and baked for 45 minutes... checked it... baked another 15 minutes.... checked it again... still not sure if it was done Took it out and let it cool enough to eat... still didn't taste like it was done. Put that sucker in the microwave for 15 minutes. Now it's done! Hit it with a little non-stick cooking spray, tossed it with some salt and pepper... little stringy bites of heaven! Frankensleeve approved!

  14. I had severe pain in my feet, so right after surgery, I wasn't able to walk. But I did what I could at the time - which was a few laps around the inside of my workplace. And parking as far from the entrance to stores to force myself to walk a little more. I didn't do any continuous walking till about my 2nd month post-op - I was able to work my way up to 20 minutes of continuous walking each day. Now at 12 months post-op, I walk 4 to 5 miles a day, 4 to 5 days a week. I was able to easily lose weight without exercise for the 1st 6 months, but after that, my body adjusted to the lower caloric intake and it became more difficult. Here's the blog post where I tracked my walking progress. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/
  15. I started a vlog, but it is really more about answering the WLS questions I see posted most often.
  16. You're welcome. I was afraid there was a catch to the TV offer, but I was surprised how easy it was to get the free kit. And next I was afraid the the offer would be over by the time I posted the link. They do stipulate the offer is only good as long as supplies last.

  19. Welcome to the "one bite too many" club. :-P I'm not only a member, but I bought the franchise rights in Texas!
  20. I mentally prepared for surgery by being in denial - really. :-P I pretended that nothing out of the ordinary was going to happen, it was just another ordinary day - right up to being wheeled into the OR. As I was laying on the gurney in the pre-op waiting area, I did allow myself to wonder how the nurses would react if I just got up off the gurney, put on my clothes, got back in the car and went home. Thoughts like that really helped me get through it. I didn't really experience any stomach pain or pain from the incisions, it was the pressure from the gas that hurt. It felt like an alien was trying to burst out of my chest - like in the movies, but it went away after a few hours. Getting up and walking ASAP is the best way to get rid of that pressure. I didn't want to, but everyone on the board said to do it. And it was true. You might like my video about my pre-op freakout.
  21. I get tired of them too. I found that putting a scoop of a powdered chocolate protein mix in with a Premier Protein chocolate shake really thickens them up and makes it creamier. Toss in some ice cubes and it really tastes like thick creamy chocolate milk.
  22. Summer squash is one of my favorite vegetables. My favorite way to prepare it is to slice it lengthwise or in rounds. I put the slices on a pizza pan and spray the squash with a little non-stick cooking oil and broil it in the oven 8 -10 minutes on each side, till it's nice and blackened.
  23. I've never used any kind of calorie/fluid tracker, but Fitday seems to be the one I see mentioned time and time again. They offer free accounts - http://www.fitday.com/
  24. Loved your videos, keep up the good work. I wish I had been able to vlog from day 1, but I was hurting too much for the 1st few weeks. Keep Pimpin' that Sleeve!
  25. I wasn't able to eat salad for the 1st six months, not because of any dieting restrictions, but because Frankensleeve would not tolerate anything that fibrous. When you do try lettuce again, be sure and eat only a small bite to see how your new tummy accepts it.
