What if you learn to do really complicated time-consuming cooking, like fancy cake decorating or French cuisine. I'm sure a lot of the appeal is the actual process and if you make it complicated you might get more bang for your buck. We knitters do this by using really thin yarn and tiny needles, to make them go further. Or you could volunteer to cook at a shelter or make a business out of it and do catering or something like that. You won't have to have it in your house then. Did you think of taking some chef courses? Then, once again, it's out of your house. Lots of the classes are for healthy food too.

I totally relate to this. I am working through these things pre-surgery and have been for the past year and more. I came from a situation of abuse and was also verbally abused at school. After school I was abusing myself verbally, inside my head. I'm trying to learn how to break the cycle and learn to be happy now.

Talk to your endo. You won't be having many carbs but you can still bolus if you need to and dose for your carbs. I bet you won't need much and you may have hypo episodes while you are coming to grips with it. You may end up off insulin over time. Lots of type 2 basically leave the hospital in remission. I'm not on insulin but I'm on metformin and fully expect to be able to get off it. My latest A1C was 5.6.

I think it's like people who join a new religion or stop smoking. It's in the front of their minds so they see it everywhere and can't stop talking about it, trying to convince everyone around them. I think it comes from a good place but it just never works and comes across so judgmental. Put yourself in the overeater's shoes and think how you would react to someone saying those things to you. You might get angry or be depressed for days. It might reinforce to you that you're a loser because you can't stop. It probably won't be a call to positive action, though.

You know how you hear about quitting smoking, that your lungs start to recover in X days and are fully recovered in X months or whatever? I wonder if that happens with obesity. I'm not talking about things like stretch marks or saggy skin. But does obesity make changes to the ways our bodies work, and are any of those changes permanent even after being at a healthy weight for months or years? Or does your body just bounce back after so long and have a normal metabolism, normal food cravings, etc? I hope this makes sense. Maybe some of the veterans will weigh in. I wonder if there is research into this. Maybe someone can fix the title. Sorry about that. I'm on my iPad.

I am looking at it like this. Every pound I don't gain before surgery is a pound I don't have to lose after. I also got a Fitbit and I've been increasing my walking. I have cut out carbonated drinks and trying to limit alcohol to a couple glasses a week. Limiting coffee to one cup a day. Trying to get in as much Water as I can.

Bump. Any other May 14? I have to pay my deposit May 4. I don't have to do a pre-op diet.

I agree it sounds like a gall bladder attack. I used to get them but haven't in quite a while. But how long since you were double digits?! You are rocking it!

Wear heels. Buy normal sized clothes. Wear a party dress. Swing on a swing set at a public park. Run for fun again. Be one of the fit healthy people in the room.

You can have a build up of tissue in your uterus if your body builds up the lining but doesn't shed it. If this happens you can take weeks and weeks to finish shedding on your own. Your OB can do a d&c and will want to sample the tissue. In most cases there is no problem but if there is it is good to know. I speak from experience. The condition is called hyperplasia. Not saying you have it. But get it checked.

No need to apologize for stepping up on your soap box. You are absolutely right. I will be in Boston for work from tomorrow to the 27th. Hopefully everything is settled down there. I'm glad I'm doing this trip before my surgery. I have a hard time eating to plan on trips, between the airports, free wine in the plane, and hotel buffets. It is something about free food and being on my own. Anyone else have that problem? How do you cope after the surgery? Do you ask for special meals? Also does anyone have any good cook books for after the surgery? Any tips for packing lunches etc, after I'm on solid food? Michele, I joined the Facebook group but there sure is a lot of drama there. Not sure I need more of that in my life. I will give it a few days.

My dietitian told me the optislim is is thinner and better tolerated in the full liquid stage. I am not required to do a pre-op diet.

What do you guys do for vitamins? I got some sublingual b12 today and it takes about 10 minutes to dissolve. Yuck. And some calcium tummies but you are meant to take 4 a day which seems daft. And I can't use them the first two weeks post-op. also does anyone know where to buy Optislim (not Optifast)?
