I have been fighting the battle with dieting and exercising for the past 20 years. I've tried eating the right foods, going to exercise like a fanatic, taking phen-phen, with my weight ending up going up and down like a yo-yo.
I have dealt with a lot of life's ups and downs, I have dealt with the loss of loved ones, I have had a lot of stressors, but who isn't dealing with a lot of stress these days?
I have been thinking about getting this surgery for the past 10 years, but I was skeptical at first. In October 2011, I attended a seminar about weight loss surgery after I had my yearly physical.
I was shocked to find out I had type 2 diabetes after I had my yearly physical.
I had taken diabetes classes and tried to use portion control and I have tried making changes in my dietary habits. I went from drinking a lot of pop to drinking mostly water daily. I used to drink 2-3 cans of pop per day, and I drank 2 cups of coffee per day. Now I drink mostly water, coffee, tea, and some juice. I am eating more protein and veggies and fruits than I used to. I am not eating sweets as they are not compatible with people who are diabetic.
I am very nervous about getting the Verticle Sleeve procedure done, but I need to do the surgery because it is way better than the alternative to surgery. I realize that the surgery is a tool, that is why I have made a conscientious lifestyle change to see if I am ready to proceed with this surgery and I am sick of being unhealthy and I want to be able to live my best life.
I have type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, asthma (I don't even smoke!). My BMI is 39 or 40.
