  1. Looking for someone in the ottawa region to be a fill doctor, will ask at my consult, or once i get to the point where fills are important...but i would like to know if anyone knows of one. I hope i would not have to travel to toronto every time.
  2. Alright, sounds like a better idea because i might've cancelled it in general. I dont know...either way i think ill end up at the tlbc. But yeah, ill give it a shot and if they dont do that i think i will. Also what do you mean about OHIP covering... i never heard of that. I even called my insurance provider and they dont do too much. Definitely dont pay for device or surgery. More likely they'd cover fills or things of that nature (assuming, definitely didnt check) i believe their words were theyd pay for things that would maintain the medical device or i dont know...something in that ball park and a fill seems to classify as that. Oh well...we'll see. But yeah if you can hit me back about the OHIP, i would be REALLY happy if the Govt. paid ANY of it.
  3. Yeah, I don't know I Might. Do you know if they do phone consultations? I'm even thinking of cancelling my TCC appointment and just going to the tlbc.
  4. And do you mean that i would have to travel to toronto AGAIN, to see the dr. I was hoping this was a one shot deal. Geez...i'm thinking the TLBC has their things in order a little bit better. But....i'm still waiting to visit both.
  5. THanks, i will have my phone conference with TLBC BEFORE the tcc meeting in person....so i will have 2 different opinions. Yeah, i will update you on how they go.
  6. Thanks everyone for answering very thoroughly. It will help greatly, and will hopefully make my decision easier, and i will know what i need to know at the consultation rather than think about something i wanted to ask when its over. Thank you.
  7. Hey Donna D, when you get back from your consult, tell me how it went, i'm going april 9th to the TCC(toronto cosmetic clinic)
  8. Hey goldie, where are you thinking of going?? I am also approaching the consultation stage....one on the 5th and one on the 9th of april ( TLBC and TCC) I will be asking both at my consults about ottawa fill doctors and keep you updated, if you get any info get back to me, thanks.
  9. Rockn4u, how do you eat shakes for 2 weeks straight....i'm not there yet, probably will in a few months tho. To me it seems like I couldnt go without a meal (using a replacement i.e. shake) for one day. But then again I guess the fact that you are doing this for a better and easier surgery kind of slaps you in the face and tells you not to eat....but jeez, how does it feel not to chew anything for 2 weeks. If i were that good at controlling what i eat i wouldnt be looking into the lapband.
  10. I don't know where they could do that, but i think it would have to be at a specialized place. Maybe the internet could get you some rough estimates, but like for me i know my university's physiology department has a tank that measures density. I guess you would have to find one of those. So should I actually now that i think about it, so i have a goal.
  11. I am having 2 consultations in about a week. One phone, one in person. What should i ask to be sure i am going to choose the right place? Things such as: How many theyve done, complications, stats? Pre-op diets, post-op stuff.....what would you say is a good question to ask, obvious questions and also something weird or obscure that would be good to ask. Just trying to be as prepared as possible Thanks!
  12. I know it's all fun and jokes that the TCC has a bunch of other procedures, but i honestly believe that the BEST surgeons out there are plastic surgeons. They have to be perfect, there is not really any room for error as people are 99% self pay, and it is usually work that everyone can see. Plus they go through so much school and training, I am sure most people couldn't handle it. Seriously, I'm still glad i'm doing a consult there, i will report about it because it seems NO ONE has actually gone there. (on these boards)
  13. I'll ask when i go but it looks like it might be the only operation Dr. Tin does, and that others do the rest....but we'll see. Because it's a team of surgeons. Also, yeah, i definitely wouldnt choose a place because of the 1000$.
  14. Yes, might as well get as many consults, get a feel for what we're getting into. But yes, it's those little things that might be an indication of where they are best prepared. But yes, not judging too quickly too, they might talk to us about this later on, as for the ammount of surgeries he has been doing gastric banding for 2 years. And a surgeon who has been in private practice since 1988 and has a ton of credentials is always good.
  15. Thanks, yes, i am going to see the consultant on the 9th. I don't think there is anything wrong with any clinic. From his bio, it looks like Dr. Tin has been Doing Lap-bands for a few years. Plus any qualified surgeon is very skilled. Just because the clinic isn't as popular doesn't mean anything. They offer the same service. The only reason I might be leaning towards TLBC is because they are dedicated to this one thing, plus seem much better (ex: i am going to a consultation on the 9th, and i didnt have to do anything, plus on the TCC website they dont say anything about pre-op diet; whereas TLBC has a pre-op diet to make operation easier, and i have a 9 page thing still to fill out for a consultation---which they are doing over the phone *saving me a drive to toronto* And TCC doesnt do phone conferences) So without even seeing anything i am inclined to the TLBC (just my opinion). BUT, I am still going to do both consults and see how i feel after. If they both seem fine, which i am sure they are, i might as well save 1000$ and go to tcc:)
  16. I am heading for a consultation in a few weeks, so I will be asking the doctors in Toronto if there are any fill doctors in Ottawa (where I live) But, if any of you know could you please tell me. Thanks
  17. I have a consultation with The Toronto cosmetic clinic on april 9th. Will tell you how it goes. Though from the message boards, I am leaning towards going to the TLBC.
  18. Thanks for the advice, will do. Also one question, what kind of questions do i ask at a consult? Like where i can get fills? What else...
  19. Hey mr. yoda, I'm doing a phone consultation with the TLBC on April 5th. Coincidence? I think not.
  20. Thanks to everyone. I feel like i'm so ready for this. Wish i could get the ball rolling tomorow...well...i guess it is already, but still.
  21. For as long as i can remember i have been overweight, I am not using this as the easy way out...I just don't want to imagine what i will look like in 5 years if i keep this going. I am almost 20 so....still healthy, but give it a few years and the typical obesity related health issues will start popping up. I am looking into the LB, I have a consultation on april 9th. Is everyone happy with the results?
  22. I made an appointment at the toronto cosmetic clinic but i'm seeing a lot of people went to TLBC. I have a consult on april 9th...I will try to get one at the TLBC as well...to compare. How have you liked your TLBC experience?
  23. I do not even think there is such a thing used in Canada, Only 1 band is approved, only 1 is used.
