Day 1 pre-op diet
Wow...i have eaten less than 900 calories today. in the past 24 hours i only ate 3 big yogurt containers. I have an empty feeling in my gut...i want some carbs or meat...anything. I am happy that i am down like 7 pounds...but really it's not a big deal, i used to be able to lose that much in a day before, but then it would come back right away...the only difference is now i can count it because i am going to keep it up this time!! I am going to go out for exercise when i feel hungry, i will do something to occupy myself. Can't wait to pass the wall, and be in the smooth sailing zone where i'm not craving food anymore. (I hope it comes)

What do you pay for a fill?
Nice one Macdaddy lol, But yeah, i think going is the biggest expense because its 4 hours away...and as for Taking advantage of free fills and unfills....i find that unlikely. I wouldnt go for fun to get filled just because i felt like it. After care is not really splurging, it's necessary. I would think that deterring someone from it is wrong...i've seen in the forums some people who pay upwards of 300$ USD for fills....now THAT is ridiculous, and sometimes it's not even under Fluoro.

Yoda's Jedi Journals (aka Yoda's Yammerin's)
Hey MR Yoda, my operation is at TLBC on May 4th at noon, you are at 2pm...pretty close, I'd say we're in the same boat. Couldn't really be any closer. Yup, i feel you for the pre-op, but i don't find it that bad yet...hopefully by day 3-4 it gets easier.

Sweating less?
Pretty conclusive poll so far...glad to hear that...there's another thing that will be great.
-
Consult Question...
I think that either choice is good...I did the opposite as you. Like TLBC, so booked there.

Sweating less?

Pre-Surgury stuff
Hey, its 12:54 april 24th 2006....i should be studying exams but i'm here doing my journal! I will start with what i did before getting into this, since i don't have much to say about the pre-op diet (i started 1 hour ago...its a 10 day diet consisting of yogurt and cottage cheese) So....around march i started thinking out of the blue...I need help, i've tried everything, I don't even know what clicked but all of a sudden i felt the urge to look up everything on the RNY gastric bypass. While i was researching that i found info on the Lap-band...which led me here. I was looking for forums where real people were discussing real issues. I started out just talking about it with my parents, they were ok about it but quickly warmed up to the idea. My mom did research and found someone in Toronto. This was the TCC (toronto cosmetic clinic) So i booked a consult in person for late may. I was searching the forum and found out no one really knew them and their reputation was not established, and their post-op care didn't add up. I opted for the TLBC (Toronto laparascopic band centre). Where i could do a phone consult which i booked for april 5th... Filled out the forms, did the consult, set the date....May 4th 2007. I spent countless hours on LBT researching, viewing threads, looking at before and after pics, reading horror stories about the complications. Now comes the real test...10 days, pre-op diet! I will keep you (if anyone is actually reading) posted!

Just starting out...
I am in the limbo...do i tell...do i not? I think i wont and then when i start losing then i may redecide. I have had the conversation with my friends in my head...but not out loud. I just wish i knew how they would react...either way...i am DEFINITELY not telling anyone before the band... I don't want to hear anything about it. I have previously heard my family (aunts and uncles) discuss my weight...like they have knowledge of what it's like. If anyone has seen the documentary Fat: what they are not telling you...In that a doctor makes a very good point. If we had the abundance of food that we have today 60 years ago...a lot of people passing judgement today, would be overweight themselves. Also a quote i like: Obesity, it's the easiest thing to NOT understand.

Fat:What no one is telling you---ONLINE
Even on lap band....NORMAL weight is very hard...it's again either genetics, or following the rules very strictly. Most will be content with a drop in weight, loss of co-morbidities (why not, its great). And there is not really a health benefit to the extra weight. But yeah, on average people with WLS will lose anywhere from 60-80% of excess weight. I hope i can one day be normal weight...we'll just have to see.
-
MAY 4th
If you've tried fad diets before (and your family probably knows) Just act like it's that. It's somewhat of a diet....but you know this one will work lol.
-
MAY 4th
I'm not going for a last day binge or anything, but i will try to enjoy my last day...today is hopefully my highest weight EVER....never again.

Really scared 7 days to go before i'm banded
Get him to watch the documentary: Fat: what no one is telling you...just search the forum and you will find i put the link to watch it online. Also as per another post who said i don't think i can control it myself...this issue is also discussed in the documentary. *loosely from documentary* You have 2 brains...the primitive one is the one telling you to eat....and it always wins in the long run. It's like telling yourself not to increase your breathing after running up 6 flights of stairs...you can fight it all you want at first you may control it...but in the end you will end up speeding up your breathing.

MAY 4th
Let's keep eachother updated on pre-op diet....how we feel, how hard it is...keeping us motivated...If you cheat write it down, that way you feel accountable! We are all in the same boat.

MAY 4th
Alrighty folks.....24 hours until pre-op diet 11 days till surgery....who is anxious, who is nervous? I am anxious as hell....can't wait...wish i had the band in me already for 1 year....imagine what i would look like 1 year post op if i would've done this 1 year ago....oh well at least i'm doing it now.

Oh, also, anytya, disregard GR8's comment about insurance....they don't cover it. This is CANADA forum....it gets frustrating to have advice that doesn't apply...but it happens. People are trying to be nice so it's ok.
