Date set: July 11th - any other July banders?
I met with the surgeon last week and they submitted everything to the insurance. If everything goes well, I am anticipating a July surgery date. That's my birthday month, so I'm saying that will be my birthday present

The Journey Begins
I met with the bariatric team yesterday at the hospital I will be getting the lapband procedure done. I am still awaiting insurance approval, but for now, the nurse put me on 1200 calorie diet, 30 min a day exercise plan. Whenever my procedure is scheduled, I will be put on a stricter diet a week prior to the procedure, but I'm not going to focus on that right now. So I'm buckling down and trying to stick to the plan, as I know this will make for an easier transition after the procedure. This is a lifestyle change and the lapband is only a tool to assist with weightloss. There will be many changes I will have to make along the way for me to be successful, so here I go.

Could of had a May Surgery date...
Perhaps you should talk to some other surgeons. I talked to 3 different ones before I made my decision. I heard about the sleeve from them all, but the one thing that stuck with me regarding the sleeve is that it's a newer procedure so they don't have a lot of long term data on it yet, and it's a more drastic procedure that requires cutting & removing a portion of your stomach, and it isn't reversible. The surgeon I went with didn't recommend the sleeve over the Lapband for those same reasons which made sense to me. This is a big decision so you should wait until you are ready and feel at ease with the program/doc that you decide to go with. Good Luck, keep us posted!

New To The Journey and Saying HI!
Welcome and congrats! I am waiting for approval now. I found this site not too long ago. I am currently reading the book they mention on the site. I recommend. It pretty much covers everything and is an easy read.

Received Approval Yesterday!
Congrats! My surgeon had said he likes to have people stay overnight to make sure things are ok before sending them home. I think I would stay if I had the option though. Keep us updated!

New to site New Journey
I'm in the same stage of the process. I'll have psy assessment and mtg with nutritionist in a couple weeks. I think your feelings are the same as mine. I have a family member and friend who have had this done. After a couple years of really trying to figure it out on my own, I came to the conclusion, this may be the tool I need to get to a maintain a healthier weight. Some days I'm excited and some days I question it. The pros far outweigh the cons though. I purchased the book mentioned on this site. I'm about half way through it. A lot of great info, I would recommend.

Sleeve?
I looked into other options such as the sleeve, but found that is too risky for me. The surgeon I talked said that with the sleeve, your stomach can still stretch back out over time, which requires another surgery to correct. With the band it is meant to stay in forever, but is reversible if needed. There is the possibility of complications with any surgical procedure, but I just fill more comfortable the stats with the Lapband. The sleeve is a newer procedure so there isn't a lot of long term data. It may be good to get a second opinion. I actually talked to three different surgeons before I made a decision.

Caught in a lie... Well kind of
I do think it depends on your situation. I know for me, family is supportive, but at work there are some very opinionated people. I'm not one to shy away from someone challenging me, but I just don't feel that others at work need to know. If I want their support or opinion I will ask. I'm glad I found this website. I think it is a great tool, especially for those who may not have the support they need. Deciding to get the lapband isn't an easy decision for most. I'm sure many found this to be the last resort. Many people who don't agree with it or want to look down on you for doing it either don't really understand what it's like to struggle with weight, or else they are just not brave enough to take a chance and do something different. I think you should tell who you want and be ok with yourself if you don't tell others. You don't have to necessarily lie, you can do as others suggested and just be vague. I'm sure once I have my surgery date I will be contemplating on this question myself; who to tell and not tell.

Could you share some of the books that you found helpful?

Caught in a lie... Well kind of
I haven't had my surgery yet, but have decided to not tell anyone at work except my boss. I am going to ask her not to share with anyone else. Technically due to HIPAA laws it is a violation if your boss shares your medical information with anyone.

Pregnancy After Lap Band At 35??
I am 32 and am actually getting ready to get the lapband and have not had any kids yet. I've asked multiple docs and lapband patients and they have said that getting pregnant with the band maybe better than waiting. For me, one of the reasons I want and need to lose weight is to be healthier for pregnancy. My docs have said they would not recommend me getting pregnant at the weight I am now for the fear of complications. So I am going to get the band, get to a healthier weight and go from there. I think many woman are having children later in life now, and I think you should have them when you are ready and the healthiest. I have also talked to some that feel that having the band, helped post baby in being able to lose the weight. Good Luck!

How long did it take to get approved?
I've submitted my paperwork to the nurse at the hospital I am wanting to have my surgery done. How long does it typically take before you get approved and a surgery date set?

NEED A BUDDY/MENTOR
I'm new to the website and looking for support. I have not had the surgery yet, but am in the process of getting approved. I am eager to hear others experiences regardless of where they are in the process.
