My doctor has told me its a mandatory stay sadly. So I'll be there 3 days. I don't use what you were saying. I just am going through what I might want as I'm laying there for two nights.

    Any March Sleevers?

Hello! I am March 18th!! So excited and a little nervous. Would love some friends to go through this journey.
  9. I am doing self pay and I'm in Florida. I really can't wait to talk to the doctor and find out the procedure before surgery.
  10. Wow Kah! Even through self pay you had to go through that? That's rough. I are the doctor for the first time next Tuesday. I'm hoping to schedule the surgery fairly quickly after.
  11. Oh wow! I am having my first consult next Tuesday and I'm self pay as well. That is actually great news that the surgery could happen that quickly!
  12. I am a 25 year old woman who is 5'7 and I weigh 215 lbs. I am 33 BMI and all costs of surgery is not covered through my insurance so I am paying $9000 out of pocket. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there that has already gone through this and could give me some advice. I have been big my entire life and around 18 I started to yo-yo diet. I have been hearing from my doctor lately "your blood pressure is a little high" and that scares me. I'm too young. My great grandfather died from a heart attack, my grandfather died from a heart attack, my aunt had a heart attack and survived after open heart surgery and my mom has had two heart attacks. They were all related to obesity. To top it off both sides of my family are diabetics. I see a doctor on the 26th and I need to know what questions I should ask. Help?

    New Start

So this is my first thread. I have been considering doing lap band for a few months now. I finally took the first step and made a doctors appointment. All costs will be paid out of pocket. I think my biggest worry is that I am not "fat" enough. I have been yo yo dieting since I turned 18. I was always a chubby kid. With heart disease that runs in my family and diabetes as well as high blood pressure I am susceptible to getting very sick early on as I age. I am now 25 years old I am 5 foot 7 and I weigh 215 pounds. My doctors appointment is in two weeks. I am nervous I will get declined. Is there any advice you guys can give me? Thank you all would be appreciated.

    First steps

Hey Warner, I am starting on the same journey and I will be paying out of pocket if I get approved for surgery. For everything it is $9,000 for the doctor I am seeing. I am 24 and 215lbs (I think) have you made an appointment yet?

Thank you Mis73. That's a good starting point to go from. My grand pop died at 45 from a heart attack related to obesity. My aunt has a heart attack at 43 from obesity and had open heart surgery. My mom has had two massive heart attacks by 42 from obesity and both sides, my mom and dad are diabetic. I feel like if I don't take control now I'm staring at the barrel of a pistol. I've tried so many diets and I actually loose weight but it comes right back. I have a hard time sticking with it. Food is an addiction. I can never feel full enough.

My insurance doesn't cover this unfortunately. Ism fortunate enough to have that money put away and I'm able to out right pay it. I have read doctors only taking people with 35-40 BMI or some doctors that take 30 and up. I am 33 BMI so it's hard to tell where I stand. I would love to talk to someone who was where I am at and has done the surgery already.
  18. That's great. Congrats! I see a doctor for lap and in two weeks. I'm actually afraid of hearing the same thing "you aren't fat enough" do you kind sharing with me your height and weight? I'm just anxious since I am not sure what's what.
