  1. Hi everyone! I am so excited to share with you all that I just got a call from my advocate, and my surgery has been approved for August 20th!!!! YAY!!!!!! I am so blessed! So, starting today I am on a one week pre op diet until my surgery date. Can anyone share ways they made their shakes taste better? I am drinking the bariatric advantage vanilla and chocolate shakes. The consistency is awful. Any suggestions would be so helpful! Thanks yall!
  2. Has anyone been sleeved at the Nix Bariatric Clinic in San Antonio, Texas?
  3. Hi all! Is anyone having their sleeve done at the Nix in San Antonio Texas? Or had their sleeve done already?
  4. Thank you both! I have researched my doctor and he has done tons of vsgs, I am however curious why he was promoting the sleeve more.
  5. Hi all! I received my surgery date on Wednesday..YAY!! I'm going in on August 20th! However, now that I have a surgery date, I am really feeling anxious, nervous, and scared. Originally, I made the decision to have the lapband. After ALOT of research, I have decided to go with the sleeve for several reasons. I know that there are risks with the VSG, but I kind of felt like my doctor was trying to talk me out of it. He shared with me that if he had a family member having WLS, he would want them to have the lapband instead. I don't know if I should take that as a hint or what. Does anyone know what the long terms affects are with the VSG? Is it possible to have a leak a year or two later? Thanks in advance yall!
  6. Thanks Kami63! I was hoping that I would be able to still attend class. Congrats to you being sleeved!!!
  7. Hi there everyone! I am scheduled to be sleeved at the end of August. YAY!! My concern is I am a fulltime college student and I'm wondering if I will be able to attend school for the fall semester since I will be just coming out of surgery when the semester begins. Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Blessings!!
  8. Hi there! I have been on the journey to a August surgery date, but as I have continued my research into the lapband I am becoming more and more concerned. I have read that more than 50% of patients who have the lapband require surgeries later on due to complications versus other WLS. I have read of scar tissue after removal of the band, and other negative reports. Can anyone please give me some first hand insight? Thanks in advance!
  9. My doctor even wants me to stay away from fruit! I'm really struggling with that part. Oh well....ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
  10. Thanks a bunch! Good info! #Mis73......wow!!!! 200 pounds. ..what an accomplishment!!!
  11. Ummm...of all of the symptoms my doctor talked to me about the only one I have is being bloated a lot and not very regular. I don't have any pain at all. But had I not been tested during this lap band process I would have never known. The test showed my gallbladder is functioning at 29%
  12. Hi! I just met with my doctor last Thursday and he informed me that I need to have my gallbladder removed before I am banded. I'm a bit nervous to have two surgeries so close together.
  13. Hi all! First let me say that this site is such an encouragement. So, I am in the process of getting cleared by several different doctors in hopes of receiving the Lap Band in August. My doctor has me on a 40g of carbs diet until my surgery date. I'm pretty much on the Atdkins diet. Did anyone else have to do this? And for those who have already been banded, have you had to completely cute out all carbs and sugars t be successful in your weightloss?
  14. @kca1fan How long was the process to go through all of the steps and be approved? Is Medicaid covering all expenses?
  15. Hi all! I am a 31 year old woman who is 5'6" and a 256 pounds. I have HBP and constant pain in my feet, legs, and back due to my weight. I am a single mother of two disabled children, and it is imperative that I get healthy so I can be there for them 100%. I am currently on Medicaid in Texas. Can anyone give me any info on requirements for Medicaid to pay for me to have the Lapband done? Thanks in advance
