Eric and mom took me to the hospital last Thursday. Took an Ambien the night before so i slept realy well. They didn't. I was so nervous about the operation! Mainly about complications and waht if something goes wrong??? The nurses were incredible, just great. They were skilled and compassionate, answered all my questions. Made me feel ok.

  3. It's the Magic Bullet. You can get it at Target. I don't know anyone who's used it, but I think a blender might be just as good for the liquid diet purposes.
  4. I'm very bloated, too! My shoulder feels very tight and hurts, that's from the port, but I'm not sure how normal the swelling is. Call your doctor if the swelling doesn't go down. Are you having a lot of gas?
  5. I'm so jealous you had Dr Fielding! I heard he and Dr Ren are amazing. I could've had them when I lived in the City, but I wasn't ready. I love Dr Fielding. Thanks for the advice!
  6. I just had the surgery Thursday and have not had a lot today, just some Soup and Jello, maybe 800 calories at the most. I know we're not supposed to drink our calories, but has anyone had a glass of wine or a cocktail so soon post-op? :cry
  7. There are several people on here banded in Mexico with great results, so good luck! I was just banded Thursday and I'm still sore, but I'm already feeling like I have some hope for the first time! Welcome to the forum, you'll find some great advice and support here!
  8. I felt the same way, which is why I didn't do this two years ago when my insurance would have paid for the whole thing. I worked out with a trainer, followed an eating plan, swam and tried to stay active and I lost a total of 2.6 pounds. I got the band last Thursday.
  9. I've had no problems with pills -- the hydrocodone I've been cutting in half and taking one piece after another, but in the hospital I was given it in pill form and the doctor gave no instructions that it be crushed or cut...
  10. Don't make me laugh...it hurts....
  11. Long live Lesbian Public School Teachers!
  12. True Republicans should be ashamed of Bush and his cronies. The GOP once stood for less government, more personal responsiblity and keeping religion separate from the governing of the country. This administration is all about big government: Wiretapping? Torture? Amending the constitution to strip people of rights? As for anyone thinking Bush is too liberal, I weep for you. This man thinks he speaks directly to God, that gays aren't people, and that he's only accountable to the people that voted for him. Puh-leeze.
  13. I needed very little post op help. My brother picked me up from the hospital and drove me home. I had everything stocked, soups and jello and pudding and yogurt, and I just watched DVDs and passed gas.
  14. I wanted to get banded two years ago, when my insurance would've paid for everything, but I wasn't ready to give up my addiction. I was actually terrified to lose my old pal, food! I've since gained 50 pounds and have gotten to a point where I'm an emotional and social cripple. I was a huge binge and purger. I would prefer sitting home to a big Chinese meal or pizza to socializing or dating and I've decided that if I never have Chinese food, a bagel or pizza again, well, that's ok. I would rather be happy and in the world. It's a tradeoff. I think once you make peace with whatever you decide, you'll be happy.
  15. I agree that this forum is dangerous...as in ADDICTIVE! Thank you all for your wonderful advice and support!
  16. I agree! I will miss bagels and pizza more than anything, but they're part of the reason I'm obese. I can't eat them in moderation, and I don't want to. I think the reason for banding is to get healthy and thin. I've accepted the fact that there are just certain foods I won't be eating anymore, kind of like an alcoholic accepts the fact that (s)he can't drink anymore.
  17. Has anyone experienced hiccups during the healing process? I know laughing and coughing is painful, but hiccups might be unbearable! :embarassed:
  18. It's funny how all of a sudden my main topic of conversation with my friends is about Gas. My new nickname is "Gaseous Clay". :biggrin1:
  19. Erica, I was just banded Thursday too and I experienced exactly the same thing, even down to my first poo today! It's awful, but I'm told it will pass!
  20. If I wanted to watch a fight I'd go on Craigslist's Rant and Raves. The point of this forum is to get help and support, not tear each other to pieces. If you want to be divisive, please go elsewhere.
  21. Thanks for the Vegan menu!
  22. A friend of mine who was banded two years ago gave me great advice. She said to start taking a stool softener, such as colace, right away. Between the drugs in the hospital and the lack of solid foods she said she was in real trouble, that her doctor was going to have to "go in there manually" and was in terrible pain. I was banded Thursday and started on colace Friday and I took my first poo today! :biggrin1: I feel so much better.... :clap2:
  23. I think this forum has been invaluable. You take each piece of advice with a grain of salt, and consider the source. The people who are eating solid foods when they were specifically told not to and don't follow their doctors' advice will most likely fail, while the people that follow the doctor and the advice of people who have been through the banding and have kept the weight off will most likely not. Of course, I could be wrong! I personally need this forum as my Dr has barely talked to me, and I feel a bit at sea. :cry
  24. I was just banded a day and half ago, so I've had some baby food and soup.:hungry:
