December 2008 Bandsters Names (Final)
hey December Diamonds and Holiday hotties....My surgery is for December 2nd! After years of dragging my feet now it seems like it's coming so fast I can't keep up with all the appt.s ect. and emotions. Wish me luck! I'm part of a low BMI study for those under 40 BMI. Hope I'm doing the right thing. I always second guess myself though.

HELP burned out already !
geez....I 'm scheduled for on DEC 2. lap band surgery. I have NeVEr in my life seen more doctors and had more tests in all my life (I've been lucky). The more tests I have the more they supposedly "find" something that they can send you for another test. I litreally hit my sress meter this morning. I spend all day at the hospital yesterday in Westchester/Bronxville for PRE OP testing for the BAND and being tested for everything under the sun by nasty sad people who have chips on their shoulders - they should be grateful they have a job!!!, and filling out a zillion forms. I had to be there at 9:00 but got there a few hours late so that started them off good. Got home just in time for dd from school. Then this morning had to go for a 3 hour nuclear stress at 8:30 a.m. on a treadmill and they would test my heart. It took me a few hours to firgure this out but while I was in the waiting room i started crying ...I mean crying like waterfall so embarrassing could not stop! Thank God a nice nurse asked me if I wanted tissues and what was wrong I told her both my parents recently passed away. She was nice and I ended up rescheduling the appt. for next week. I realize that I was thinking about my sister who died of a heart attach 3 yrs ago and all that. I got home still crying and thinking I don't want the band if this is what it takes. people are treaded like cattle in this healthy care system. Pls promise me we will get Dr. Kavorkian's number so we can have it when we get feeble...if we do!!!

I need support you guys.
Hi Lea: I grew up in Glendale Queens so always get happy when I see a Queens girl. Now what's going on? Did you start with a low BMI? Are you eating proteins first no matter what? I do the same thing by the way with exercise. I found that once I joined a raquetball league where I HAD to be there 3-4x a week or I would let people down I went. Exercise always calms my appetite down.....If I don't do it first thing in the morning ....I usually never get around to it. Start with one small thing and be patient it will become a habit ...oh and start out slow...I always go in like gang busters and 6 weeks later crash on the couch with junk food. Slow and steady starting out with the exercise....pls keep me posted.

Mourning food already
Hello everyone: I guess this is a typical case of be careful what you wish for, for when you get it, you may still not be happy. My surgery date is scheduled for December 2nd 2008. I've been wishing, praying, hoping to be able to get banded with the Lap Band for over 2+ years now. Recently everything fell into place as if by a miracle. Money I didn't know I had turned up in a hidden bank CD where the bank didn't have my new address. (for real.. not from a crazy email from Nicaragua :-)) I found a low BMI study near my home that accepts patients under 40BMI and the price is affordable! I found a great follow up center with caring wonderful people. I couldn't ask for more. Why then am I so depressed? I think finding a solution to one problem only relieves that pain then switch, focus moves to next or real"problem". I am so afraid that I will miss one of my only friends left....food. I realize at night while my husband is watching sports/financial news with the remote in one hand while his laptop in his lap watching like a prey animal for bad news. I am in the other rooms of the house escaping with a book or TV and you guess it my friend food. I am so afraid of losing this loyal friend who I know eventually will ask for my health in return for friendship. Currently I'm not working....I switched careers at age 49!! ...what was I thinking. I am bored and lonely lately and dealing with a puberty stricken 12 year old girl who hates me most of the time. This girl, my dd, was a living doll who idolized me up until last year. I probably spent too much time making her life wonderful while I forgot about mine. Oh and my parents and sibs are gone, friends moved away, I'm an older mom and no longer a person everyone wanted to be friends with...being older and overweight doesn't help matters, I have no one with kids to bounce things off of. On top of it all I'm in the throws of change of life hormones....up, down, up, down. I know my life was pretty cush for the past 7 years so I guess I'm due for a new test. Thanks for letting me ramble and keep me in your prayers- just kidding. Just thanks for letting me take up word space. With hope and gratitude to all, M

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
ve slipped into back into some bad habits. I've been 'dieting' for the past 11 months, and suddenly, I've been wanting my former foods. I think it's the time of year - so many holiday reciptes, cold-weather foods, sweets, family gatherings - and less low-calorie summer foods around. Had an appointment with my second Psychologist for a new Lap Band surgeon and she is actually extremely informative and don't feel like I've wasted money like I did on nutritionist, etc. Anyway ...just wanted to pass on her wisdom to you. She said this time of year Serotonin levels drop and this causes carbohydrate cravings. Also cloudy weather does this....I was amazed how true it is ...and how much I want to eat on a rainy day!

For those with BMI 35-40?
My overweight cardiologist said the other day "You're not that big". Others say you are not 100 lbs overweight...ya wanna weight me...I'm 98 over healthy weight...I carry it well I guess and can wear clothes to hide it but they don't have to feel the pain physical and mental of carrying it. .

For those with BMI 35-40?
Good for you Shamrock! I know me and I can't keep any good news to myself so I will probably be telling people who don't even ask! I too had the same situation when I went to my meetings as well. I try to think they were not dirty looks just looks of yearning to be like you! The entire proceeder is so much easier on the body if it is at our weight than well over 40 BMI!

How long did you have gas after surgery?
I've been feeling so bloated and gassy and I haven't even been banded yet. It must be my age I'll be 50 in March. I used to have an Iron stomach ....that is not the case any longer. After banding how long did it take for the gas from surgery to go away for you? thanks

For those with BMI 35-40?
Many surgeons in my area of NY are accepting patients with BMIs below 40 without co mobidities. Some are even studying Lap Band surgery for those with BMIs as low as 30. Surgery is much easier on a patient with a relatively lower BMI and why wait. Most people who reach obesity levels stay that way and or become severely obese.

For those with BMI 35-40?
So what do you tell people when you lose the weight? I imagine saying I had a thyroid condition that has been taken care of but....lying is almost always the wrong choice. I live in a fairly small town and don't want everyone knowing and If I say it was just diet and exercise that that's lie too. What have you said and how have you said it?

finally....December

Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!
Hello Baby! Hope you like my photo . I was invited to partake in a LOW BMI study, the price is affordable, the surgeon is highly experienced and the hospital is Columbia Pres In Westchester! The referring center is an Obesity Clinic that specializes in Lap Band surgery follow up care and obesity. I will have the support now and it is close to home. It's all about being patient and not giving up with anything in life! I just didn't give up and stayed positive and this is the best choice for me. I agonized for 2 years and fought my insurance company but in time the answer came. Thanks for starting this post....hope you are well

Finally....December
I still find it hard to believe that I have finally gotten a date for December , 2008. It even feels strange typing this. I have watched 100s of people here get their dates and now I'm one of them! I have been dealing with an impossible insurance company. Found a low BMI study I am partaking in that has reasonable rates!! Waahoooo...

For those with BMI 35-40?
Coboom: I agree...I'm glad I didn't take out a loan. You get crazy and just want it to be over and be banded. BuT from my experience ...be patient...if things aren't falling into place it is because I believe the universe isn't ready yet. It took me 2 years to find this extremely reputable facility that does the low BMI study AND my daughter is now old enough to process me having surgery like this....AND the money literally came from heaven. My mother died years ago and left me money that I had in a CD that kept rolling over and the bank didn't have my right address....they called theother day with the amount of money maturing which was exactly the amount i needed! true story Have faith....

For those with BMI 35-40?
Too alll: I am a 36 climbing quickly to 37 BMI and I love the one ...you're not fat enough..you're just BIG...oh thanks for that. I am 96 lbs over my lifetime normal weight and healthy weight. or The experts...."you have to be 100 lbs overweight to even be considered for that operation!" I don't think you could get it even if you wanted it which you really don't need, just watch what you eat. Or your not like that....you not obese....oh yeah? I don't get too much support either
