Let's see.....where do I start, my story is lengthy, sorry!

I originally went to Mexico back in 2003 to get the Inamed 4cc Lap-Band.and was at 202 lbs at that time....I was very successful with the lap-band; however in 2007 I underwent a bladder sling surgery and got very sick post-op and because of all my vomiting, my band slipped. I had to have emergency surgery to get it "unbuckled". :( The surgeon that unbuckled my band told me that he would work with the insurance and promised me that I could have it hooked back up after about 6 months (needed the time for my tummy to heal). Well, when I went back to see him he told me that he could not get insurance to pay for it without even attempting. I was devastated, angry and many other emotions surfaced due to this. At this time, I didn't need the band because I was at my smallest (118) due to being so sick after the bladder surgery.

Well, as time went by, the pounds started packing on and before I knew it, I was up to 225. I decided to go back to Mexico to get the band hooked back up, so I did this in January, 2008, once again I was very successful with the band...I never got back down to 118 and quite frankly, that was too small for my build. Around August 2012 I noticed that I had quite of bit of restriction with my band even though I hadn't had a fill in several years and that is when I learned of Dr. Jayaseelan (there aren't a lot of doctors that would see Mexico banded patients). After my examination and barium swallow, I was informed that my band had once again slipped. I had surgery scheduled immediately to unbuckle it. Dr Jay advised me that once it healed he could reconnect it (just like the other dr told me)..I was a bit skeptical to say the least. When you struggle with weight your entire life and there's that possibility of losing the ONE thing that has helped you beat obesity, you don't want it GONE...it's like losing a part of you!

After about 8 weeks of healing time, I scheduled the reconnection surgery and when I woke up in recovery I was informed that he had to remove the band because it had started to erode and that my stomach just couldn't handle the lap-band any longer...I cried the entire afternoon. He told me that it was very normal to have these feelings, so I didn't feel too wacky! During my follow-up visit Dr. Jay mentioned Gastric Plication as an option for me. He said that it was for patients that didn't need to lose more than 100lbs and at that time I only needed to lose about 20 more to get to my goal weight. The only thing is that I had to wait about 8 weeks to give my stomach and the lining to heal. It was so thin, he referred to it as a "paper sack".

My surgery for the Gastric Plication was 3/21/13....I was excited about this but at the same time nervous...I was in the hospital for 3 days because of all the nausea that I had (it was terrible). I am 4 days post-op and feel tons better. I am looking forward to this new journey and look forward to meeting and chatting with anyone here! Best wishes to you all! :P
