@ladybabie3 - I feel your pain! I asked my husband not to tell his parents specifically because his dad always made comments about my weight. Last week his mom asked me in front of other family members if I had already had my surgery. All of the family members (in-laws) then started asking me what kind of surgery I was having. I just wanted to run out and cry! I told them I didn't want to talk about it and my in laws tried to act like I was over reacting and that they had done nothing wrong.

I'm scheduled for surgery on the 24th! ???‹ Do they prescribe anything for pain & discomfort or should I stock up on liquid Motrin & Tylenol??

I currently take meds for hypothyroidism and for acne. Will I still be able to swallow these pills with the band?? I get banded on January 24th!!! Can't wait!!

Hi Everyone! I'm getting my band on Jan. 24th in Houston, Tx!! I like many of you have mixed emotions as well. I'm excited one minute and then I get nervous the next. The excitement however out weighs the nervousness. I can't wait to be banded!!! Good Luck to all of you!

I'm using care credit. I've been told that even if they approve you for an amount that's less than what the surgery is, your doctor can submit a request for additional credit to cover the surgery.

Have you called UH to consult with a Care Coordinator? I was on my 5th month waiting process and just found out that I should have called UH before I started. When I called UH they told me that I didn't qualify for coverage because I didn't have diabeties, high blood pressure, etc. Now I am doing self pay. Friday is my EGD and next Wednesday is my consultation at True Results. If I were you I would call UH just to make sure you're covered or talk to your doctor and make sure they have everything they need. Good Luck!

Congrats! My insurance is making me do a 6 month counseling/nutrition class before they will approve me. I'm afraid they will give me the run around after the 6 month which is up in February 2013.

I too have UHC and live in Texas. I have to go through the 6 month process as well. The sucky part about having to wait the 6 months is that I have already met my deductible this year but since I have to wait 6 months, I will have to pay my deductible again in February. My BMI is 38 but I don't have any comorbid diseases (yet).

Are you paying out of pocket or going through insurance. I am new to the whole lapband process. I've been reading these forums for about 5 months. I finally decided last month to go for a consultation. The doctor said I did qualify but because I have United Healthcare, I have to go through a six month process before they approve it. So I am hoping to have the surgery in Feb. 2013. I wish I didn't have to wait so long but I can't afford it without insurance. I've been having so many stomach issues the last 3 to 4 years. I've gained so much weight this last year that I am starting to get depressed. I don't want to go out anymore because I am ashamed at how much weight I've gained. I have hypothyroid issues and in June I had bells palsy. My doctors keep telling me to lose weight and try not to stress so much. I've tried weight watchers twice and lost 20lbs and gained it all back plus 10 more lbs. Anyway, I am glad I joined this forum and I look forward to Feb. 2013.
