Make sure you are looking at the carb and sugar content of the bar you are eating. <5 grams sugar and < 5grams carb is the rule of thumb. Also, at four weeks, eat it very slowly and chew very well to make sure it agrees with you.

Soo sorry this is an issue for you. Hopefully sometime soon after surgery that with weight loss will come the bonus off less meds needed but still doesn't help immediately post op. Ask your surgeon and anesthesiologist about the anti nausea patch. I think that would help you greatly so you won't have another pill you would need to take. I was just told about the patch as nausea is an issue of concern for me too. And the patch lasts a few days, much like the one's you would get for a cruise for sea sickness.

Vikkic, Hi! I use the Unjury, and I really like it! I buy a canister(I think its 21.95) Vanilla and I use a variety of things to mix with it. (i always use skim milk) 1 tsp peanut butter and 1/4 of mashed bananna.....ummm, I also, delute about 1tsp instant coffee in warm water then add that for coffee flavor and my favor is adding a tsp of sugar-free instant pudding. I have a single sized blender I use and it mixes it up really great and make sure after its done mixing, add ice cubes to your glass, it makes it a little thicker! Hope this helps you, PS-unflavored is great too with the above concoctions too...I just tend to like the vanilla flavor with them all...

I just passed my 2 week mark , have had my first post op visit with my doctor and nutr. last Friday and thought I would share just a few things I have learned the hard way that I can look back at now with some humor and relief.
If any of it helps someone get through a few days great~~
1.Don't trust a toot to be just a toot the first few or so days....that was something that lasted a week or so for me and I actually was so happy to be finally passing gas that I just passed gas..or so I thought that first second... So I got up and down a lot to the toilet just in case but after that first oops, I wasn't taking any chances.
    2. Don't push yourself. Everyone tells you,EVERYONE!~~~ LISTEN,when it comes to moving and drinking, your body knows best.So easy to over do it.
    3. Do not drink drinks with red dye in them~~~I mean holy moly I freaked out! I thought I was bleeding out,and was going to die,it was the red crystal light fruit punch working its way out,,,thankfully the awesome folks of this forum had my back, while I called my doctor.
4.Remember how difficult this whole thing is and it is emotional and its ok to feel those ups and downs, I thought there was something wrong with me because I was so upset and sad. But it goes away and you WILL feel better!
5.And finally visit here often,it makes you feel better to know others are feeling the same, so many of you all have had my back through my posts or just by me reading yours. This place has been a Godsend.
And while this is still a big,big battle for me, I'm working it and I'm going to keep visiting here and I'm going to be patient with myself and keep a sense of humor.....

Hmm, I've never heard the "spleen thing" before and to be honest it doesn't sound very reasonable. I can't imagine 1/3 of your spleen dying and it not causing a lot of other issues.
I believe it is due to the EFFECT of the gas, but NOT the gas itself. When they do laproscopic surgery they need room to work, so they blow up your abdomen like a balloon in order the get adequate work space. This CO2 gas is mostly removed upon closure and what it left is rapidly absorbed by the body in a matter of hours (at most). What DOES last is the trauma of being blown up like a balloon and it stretching and slightly tearing things up. This can cause the mysterious "phantom" or referred pain. Pain relievers help SOME but time and exercise to help alleviate the inflammation is what helps.
Stuff like GasX does NOT help with this, it simply relieves the stomach gas that you might ALSO be suffering from. Your traumatized stomach is swollen about shut and what little gas is produced is too much for the limited space - and hence gas pains.

Do not get discouraged, I did the same thing and it took a couple of weeks before I started really losing any weight. I am now 7 weeks post op and just today hit 60 lbs lost! Just concentrate on getting your liquids in and walk as much as you can, I promise the weight will start falling off! Remember we didn't gain all this weight in a couple of weeks and we sure ain't gonna lose it in a couple either.
