  1. No I stopped all medicine. I did it with just diet and exercise.
  2. So I did a home study test for sleep apnea and the results came back positive for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I went to a class today and it's mild 9.25 is the number they gave me. They set me up with a machine that I will use for 1 week. THen I go back and get my own. I am wondering if you had sleep apnea did you have to wait longer to have the actual surgery? Did the sleep apnea go away when you lost the weight? How long did you use the CPAP before you noticed a change? Thanks..
  3. I'm diabetic also and the meds. made me so sick that I opted in having the surgery done. Haven't done it yet but I am in the process now. My A1C was 8.9 and I pushed myself to go to the gym and follow the preop meal plan and it is now 6.5 in less than 3 months. I know we hate when people tell us to exercise and diet. But if this is what it's going to take to get the surgery then do it. I am in the same boat as you. I want to get sleeved to help with my diabetes. With much luck it will be in remission in no time. Good luck.
  4. OMG! That is horrible to lie, but even worse to say it's cancer. Yea, I'd stay away from her too. Sometime I wonder what goes on in peoples head...
  5. That is what I want to think. Everything you said makes sense. But when I asked them the tone they used was a little hurtful. I am over them now. I have found the support from others who have had the procedure on here. I am thankful to all of you for being honest with me.
  6. Thanks for your replies. I in fact want to think they aren't being selfish. But then one part of me feels they are. When I ask anyone on here about their experiences they don't think twice about telling me what they went thru. I have since stopped asking any questions or even letting them know what steps I am going thru. I truly appreciate all of your input.
  7. I find it weird that two of my friends who have had the procedure done are not being supportive. One of them had the sleeve and is doing very good. When I asked her for her input on how she really felt after the surgery she replied that I should do my research on-line.... Wow! I was blown away as I really thought she would share her experience. The other friend had the RNY and I guess is having a lot of food issues. Like crying because she can't have her favorite foods.. when I told her I was thinking of doing it to help put my diabetes in remission she just about flipped and said that I was crazy for even thinking about having it because I have 60 lbs to lose and not the 200+ she had to lose. THen she goes on about how hard it's been for her and blah, blah, blah.. but then she ends with but I would do it all over again... What the heck is that all about? I have since done my own research, followed my gut feeling, and have left everything up to God. I have met with my surgeon on the 16th. I'll be doing more testing and see the dr. again on the 17th. It just blows my mind how people who have had the surgery react when a friend is planning on doing it. Have you been thru it? How did you handle it? THanks for your input...
  8. I think it's great to be able to use less medication even if you are a type 1 diabetic.
  9. You see these are the little things that make a big difference and I wouldn't have ever thought of that. Yes this helps very much!! Thank you.
  10. Thank you. I will be heading out to Costco tomorrow I will be looking for it. Thanks for your quick response.
  11. I am so glad that the procedure worked for you. Do you recommend any Protein powder with less than 3 or less in carbs? I am so new at this that I don't even know where to start. Thanks, Gloria
  12. Thanks for sharing your experience. It's a good thing to have them monitor the diabetes. I know that when I had another surgery I was so nervous that my blood sugar raised that they gave me insulin right before the surgery but it never occurred to have them check it after the surgery. Thanks again for such great advise. I am so glad that you are doing well. I'm hoping for the same.
  13. I agree having diabetes affects us in so many ways that people who don't have diabetes just don't understand. I am hoping that I have the same results that you and everyone else on here have had. THanks for sharing your experience with me. Gloria
  14. I have Kaiser. I am 4'11" weight 184 lbs. and I am diabetic, high blood pressure and cholesteral. I spoke to my dr. and she sent the referral the same day. I went to the overview class for surgery and thought it wasn't for me as I thought I didn't have much weight to lose (so I thought). I asked to be sent to a dietitian who specializes in diabetes, I followed the same meal plan as the pre-op people follow and lost some weight joined the gym and yes my A1C improved but.... I still have diabetes. So I emailed my dr. and told her I wanted to go ahead and have the surgery. I just saw the surgeon and all tho I didn't get a date for surgery he told me I am a candidate because I have the comorbitity diseases. I see him in August and I am hoping I get my date. You should try talking to your php and ask why they won't refer you. Good thing you have another health plan that covers the surgery. Best of luck to you.
  15. OMG!!! I am so happy for all of you who have had great success with the surgery and having to stop medication or even lower the amounts of medication. The more I read the more courage I get to have the procedure done. For those of you who are ready to be sleeved I hope you too have great success. As well as for those of us who need to lose the weight before having the procedure done. I am just speechless as how well everyone is doing. I am going to have some family and friends read your comments as some friends are not being to supportive of my decision. They don't get that I am doing this for my diabetes. Yes losing those extra pounds is a plus but putting diabetes in remission is probably the best thing I could do for my health. Thanks so much.
  16. Good luck with your surgery next week. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.
  17. Oh goodness where do I start? I am in the process of having the procedure done I have done research and I read that the RNY was a good procedure to have to help put the diabetes in remission. After seeing my Dr., DR. David Le he suggested that I have the sleeve. He said that because I don't have a lot to lose I can do good with the sleeve. I am actually happy that I am having the sleeve done, I was a little nervous about the RNY. I saw the DR. last week and I really thought he was going to give me a surgery date. I have to wait one more month and lose 10 lbs. my pre-surgery weight should be 175. I am at 185 and measure 4'11".. I have a BMI of 38 and a A1C of 6.5... However when I started the process I was 195. and an A1C of 8.9... How many of you had the sleeve done to put the diabetes in remission? I am a type 2, and currently not being able to take meds. for diabetes, they make me very ill. Just trying to get positive and successful stories to assure myself I'm doing the right thing. Thanks... Scaredoftheunknown...
  18. I meant to say that I don't even have a surgery date yet...
  19. Any recommendations on what kind of fiber to add? Benefiber? Thanks.
  20. Yes it's a preop diet. I add half a banana. But don't eat anything else with it. I have been drinking it for Breakfast but after 2 hours I'm hungry. I will eat a snack but the hunger is bad. Almost like I haven't eaten anything. I try not to eat anything else with it because I'm on a 1000 calorie a day meal plan. Yes the waiting is the hardest part. The worst thing is that u dint even have a surgery date.
  21. I am suppose to replace a meal with a protein shake. I've started drinking it but I've noticed I am hungrier than usual. Has anyone gone thru this?
  22. I am curios about this as well. I am hoping to be out for a week. I reach cake decorating I teach 2 classes a day and I can't be out more than 1 week. However classes are only 2 hours and I get to go home after the first one and then come back in the evening. Lets see how it goes.
  23. Hi I am going thru the process now. I am going thru S.S.F. Kaiser and Dr. Le is my dr. I have done all the classes, did the sleep apnea test which came back suggesting I have obstructive sleep apnea, I have a class next week. I also have an EKG and I've met with the dr. he gave me another month and I have to lose 10 lbs. my surgery goal weight is 175.00 I went to the appointment thinking I was going to have the RNY because I have the comorbitity diseases. He suggested I lose the weight on my own because I don't have much weight to lose. But because the diabetes meds make me sick he said the sleeve was the best option for me. I just hope I don't have trouble losing those 10 lbs.
  24. I too had a major surgery and sleep apnea was not an issue, they didn't even mention it. I had to take the test too. I had to take a small wristlet type machine and place something on my ring finger and on my index finger. Got the results back today. My letter states .......the test suggests that I have obstructive sleep apnea. I go to a class and they will go over my results with me then. But I have the appointment with the surgeon on the 16th. this Monday. I am unsure how this will effect my surgery date. ugh!! The weird thing is that I don't feel any symptoms at all.
