  1. New PR today for 5 k of 22:30. Sweet spot was 6.5 mph adjusting up to 7.0 every few minutes. I could have gone longer, but I was having trouble with balance after a while. I try and keep my center of gravity right in front of my core while running chi style. Any thoughts about how to work on balance and form at faster speeds? I was not tired, but just a tad unsure of my footing at times which caused me to move out of my running "zone" just enough to be distracting. Losing the weight has allowed me to take running to another level. Love it!
  2. Definitely go. It will be worth it!
  3. That is an interesting aspect of having the sleeve surgery. Some people refer to this as head hunger because if you are not careful your head will tell you to eat when you are not supposed to. I didn't really have this experience in the same way you did, but I have read a lot of posts from others that have. Instead, I had a few "food dreams" following the surgery where I would dream about eating certain foods and then realize that I just had surgery and how could I eat that? The first few of those dreams were interesting, but a little confusing as well. The memories of food will begin to fade a little bit over time as you progress through the various stages of post op. at least that has been my experience. Now when I think back about eating certain foods it is not really me any longer. Think of it like breaking up with a SO, putting your dog to sleep or similar experiences. It is painful at first. However, with the passage of time, the memories will fade and not define you any longer. They will still be there, but are really going to seem removed from who you are going to become. Hope this helps.
  4. A combination of miralax and chia seeds works really well for me.
  5. Tyson-begun eating solids on week 5. No bad food cravings for me, but others have had it ( use the search function to find their past posts).
  6. Would you say webMD is a good site for information?
  7. Probably, if you just drink the liquid at first. Be careful though as it is going to be high calorie if you drink a lot of it. I think we should wait several months before eating the fruit because it is so stringy. Same thing with oranges. I do not eat grapefruit, but wanted to make a suggestion.
  8. Might I add fiber one as a good choice for cold cereal. My favorite cereal and low in calories, but oh so high in fiber goodness.
  9. Belated sympathies to you! Hope you get to see them again when they are in the states.
  10. Running is probably the best thing after losing the weight!
  11. Muse puts on an awesome concert. Saw them 2 x in Seattle, once in 2011 and recently in 2013.
  12. iPod with mp3. I got jawbone bluetooth ear buds with transmitter. Just need to plug the transmitter into my oldish iPod (2nd generation) and it just works. I have so many good things to saw about the earbuds in terms of sound quality and noise canceling ability. The only negative is they need to be charged after each run, but that is a small price to pay. They add so much to my quality of running.
  13. That's really great! Keep up the good work.
  14. I like Muse Resistance CD when I run. I also put together a list of running songs from men's fitness. It was supposed to be top picks for 2012. However, I still like running to muse better.
  15. Still eating 3-5 ounces of protein every 3 hours except for 2 meals when I drink protein shakes. Sometimes I sneak an extra meatball or small sausage (1 ounce). When I eat out, I have more variety, but still about the same amount.
  16. I would never get tired of the attention. Love it. Bring it on!
  17. Drink milk shakes all day. Ha! Just kidding. I know what you mean. I find that 900 calories a day of mostly Protein is about maxing me out in terms of eating. I do eat six times a day ( every 3 hours). My energy is pretty good. Not constantly wired like I drank 3 ventis (seriously, would never do that), but good enough to be fairly productive from rise to bed.
  18. Great! Can you give some details on the actual experience. How often we're you drinking water. When did you eat your gels or energy squares. Did fatigue set in? Etc, etc.
  19. Let's see. 3rd week: cold -1 week and took a lot of NyQuil 5th week: cold - same 2 month: flu - 2 weeks, high fever and generally miserable 3 month: staph infection (weird on my head) - lasted for 3 weeks and painful. Went away with antibiotics. 6 month: flu - 3 week. Worst flu I have ever had and kept me in bed for first 3 days. Last month. Got so dehydrated because I had trouble drinking Water and the flu robbed a lot of water. Definitely have been getting sick more after surgery. I used to only get sick once a year if that. There were some stretches where it would be 3-4 years of no colds or flus when over weight. I think part of the problem is that I visited the clinic quite a number of times post op for various reasons. Even though I am careful about using purell there, opening door handles, etc, it is hard to avoid the many other sick people in the clinic. It is strange. I am generally very healthy. Take my Vitamins and supplements every day. Eat the high Protein and high amounts of water. I have lost a lot of weight in 7 months, most of it during first 6 months. Oh well, small price to pay for being healthy in terms of physical fitness and diet.
  20. That is awesome! Great success story.
  21. Mark, your description of water use during muscle recovery was so crystal clear. I have never looked at why weight seems to plateau a day after a hard workout and then drop a few days later. I love knowing the real reason. It is so logical. This would make it REALLY clear that everyone should focus on water hydration before and after a workout in addition to a protein shake.
