Stent Treatment For Leak... So Miserable , Please Help!
Everything was going great after my VSG on August 6th. I had minimal pain andI followed all the rules to a T and then two weeks later I developed a fever and felt sick so I called the surgeon. After listening to my symptoms they immediately sent me to the hospital where my leak was confirmed after a cat scan . Things only got worse from there. My lung collapsed and Fluid collected around my lungs and spleen . I has so many tubes coming out of me it was ridiculous. The chest tube was the worst. I was put on TPN and had a picc line installed. The TPN caused me to have high blood pressure and gall bladder sludge. When the stent was first installed in my esophagus it was blocking everything i swallowed in the stent because it was straight and the stomach curves so a second stent was pushed through is that would follow the curve. 20 days later I was released from the hospital. It was a hellish experience and even thought I am home I am still dealing with the nausea and pressure of the stent. Since my stomach is being held open By the stents i have constant reflux and vomiting. My face is in a plastic bag or paper towel all the time constantly spitting up saliva. It is almost impossible to ever be comfortable. I have been told I will feel so much better once these stents come out, but i am scared that i will still feel this terrible. I can't believe this happened to me! I am 23 and other than being morbidly obese . I was healthy ! I am supposed to get the stent out sometime next week. If anyone has any advice on how to make the stent more bearable or if you have experienced the stent please share your experience as well. I feel so alone and frankly, foolish, because I thought this couldn't happen to me. I started at 257 and am now down to 218 ( I am 5'4) in a month . I am so weak and feel so hopeless Someone please tell me, is there light at the end of the stent ? My infections seem to be healed but I feel just as miserable.

Start taking iron supplements. I had really bad diarrhea until I started them. Now I'm actually constipated...- August 6Th Is My Surgery Day.
I am doing well. It's going much better than I thought. Still resting a lot and taking pain meds, but I am able to eat yogurt, Soup and Protein shakes with no problem . My biggest complaint is my throat still really hurts and is swollen from The intubation. Glad you are doing okay . Have you weighed yourself ? I am weighting until Monday because I know I am still carrying a lot of Fluid and don't want to be disappointed.- If You Had The Choice - Would You Do It Again?

- Getting Vsg At 22
I am 22 and was just sleeved 5 days ago! Recovery has been great so far! My family and boyfriend were against it , but they eventually came to accept it and are now very supportive. They never left my side in the hospital.- Post Op Pain Killer
I took dilaulid through an IV while in the hospital. My surgeon had me try Lortab because that is what they normally send people home with. Well it made me throw up instantly because it tasted so bad. So my surgeon asked me what I would like to take home with me. I asked for something solid rather than liquid . He said that Tylenol 3 and dilaulid came in very small pills. I chose the dilaulid. It's easy to swallow and works great! I recommend asking your surgeon for this. If it makes you nauseous ask for a prescription for zofran also .- August 6Th Sleevers
Me too! Good luck to you all!- It Just Got Real...
You can do it! I am currently on my 10th day of optifast. Everyone says that it gets easier , and I didnt believe it, because how could it get easier? You get more and more hungry right ? Nope ! It really does get easier, i can't believe it . The shakes and soup and everything were so gross at first , but now I like it! Just push through and after about the 5th day it'll be much easier. The best tip I can give you , is to make sure you prepare the soup with a blender or food processor! If you just try to stir with a spoon it gets soooo clumpy , gross! I ate the soup like that for the first 6 days before the light bulb came on. This was probably something that a lot of people thought of right away though , haha . 6 days of powdery, clumpy soup- yuck ! Anyway, don't worry, you SO got this!- I Am Alive
Congrats, Repoman! Get some rest. Can't wait to hear about the rest of your journey !- August 6Th Is My Surgery Day.
We share the same date we are almost there!- Has Anyone Had A Baby After Surgery?
Since I am only 22 and have not had any children yet , this was a big concern for me . I asked my surgeon about it and he's said it's actually a lot safer for me and the baby than going through a pregnancy while obese or morbidly obese.Just have to wait a couple years , which is fine with me ! I'm in no rush , probably won't want to start having kids for at least a few more years.- What Do You Tell People
We all three share the same date ! I am August 6 too. only my mom, dad, brother and fiance know that I am having VSG. I told everyone else I am having my gallbladder removed, including work. When I am eating less when I return to work I will just say that I am nauseous from surgery and on a diet later on . Don't know if they will still buy it by then, but I probably won't care in the future anyway. Right now I just don't need the stress of feeling judged or worrying what other people think ( I know I know , I shouldn't care, but I do...) I hope I don't actually need my gall bladder out any time soon!- What Was It Like The First Day After Sleeve?
Good Luck, lglavish! Definitely thinking good thoughts for you!! Be sure to let us know how it goes!- Help! 1 Week Away And Head Cold
I feel for you ! Just be sure to are getting lots of rest and doing everything possible to fight it. I am a week from surgery and my whole family has a cold . I went out and bought some airborne ( some people say it works, others say it doesn't ) and am trying that and washing hands a lot . Zicam and airborne are supposed to help you get rid of it faster. I can definitely feel myself fighting something . I'm a little stuffy and have a scratchy throat. I just hope it doesn't turn into a full blown cold cause it always takes a while for me to get rid of them. This pre op diet is miserable and I would hate for us to have to extend it. I don't think its a good idea to have surgery with a cold since having surgery already puts you at risk for pneumonia. Plus, think of all the coughing colds can cause... Ouch! Hope you heal quickly!- Anybody In Their 20's
I am 22 and getting sleeved next Monday, August 6th! Before coming to this forum I thought I was one of the only people this young to do this. Glad to see I am not alone- Monday I'm Done!
Hey MK! Yes we are ! Wow , I am very excited for you ! I am having my sleeve done with dr. Nain the following Monday, August 6 at Potomac! You will have to let us know how it goes great to meet another Bluepointer!- Monday I'm Done!
- Bad Breath!?
Yikes! Thanks for the info... Definitely don't want to do kidney damage or be living with this terrible breath for the next year or so. I don't really have a choice of what to eat now since the optifast plan is really strict , but I will definitely be sure to add some carbs in once I am able to after surgery. I appreciate your help!- Bad Breath!?
Hey everyone, I am 4 days into my two week Optifast diet an have been told twice today that I have bad breath even though I just brushed my teeth. I know ketosis can cause this , but my question is when does it stop ? The idea is to be in ketosis for most of the weight loss phase, right ? So does that mean as long as I am eating low carb I will have an offensive odor coming from my mouth? I have tried mouth wash, gum, brushing teeth and mints . They briefly and barely help. Any tips or hope on when this will stop would be so greatly appreciated! I know it's a small price to pay to be healthy , but yuck ! - Hallelujah!
