  1. Every doctor is different how much have you lost. My doctor did not set a specific goal for me just to lose as much as I can. I only lost 20 lbs. I was on a liquid only diet. He wanted my liver to be as small as possible so he had more room to work.
  2. I drank powerade zero and protien drinks to get my fluids, just keep sipping all day long do your best. Dont make your self sick but make sure you do not get dehydrated. my doctor told me that if you cant get your fluids up I could go in and get an IV to help. I never had to do that. Dont let your pee get to dark the clearer the better.
  3. I am not a runner either but I have been walking about 2 miles every day or every other day for the past few weeks. I have had both of my knees scoped and weighed 361 when I started this. I was sleeved on April 18th. Start walking in small increments and build up to a comfortable pace. You should be able to talk without being out of breath. Work up a sweat and bring a bottle of Water with you as you walk. I have an ipod and put that on and go. I normally try and walk before I go to work so it is cool out I am not a fan of hot weather. I was just cleared to lift things so I am just doing some basic weight lifting curls as mentioned above muscle burns even more fat even when resting. Also I want to lose fat not muscle so siting on the couch will not do you any good. The sleeve is a tool not the magic bullet. We all know that this is the begining of a new life for us and we have to be even more diligent on what we put in our bodies and what we do for exercise, if not we should have never have risked our lives for this surgery. Sometimes I need a kick in the butt. I am on a short stall stuck at 302 and so badly want to get under 300. That is my first goal then 25 lb increments until 200.
  4. Some are not as bad as others. I used Cytomax and they were ok, I also use Muscle Milk lite chocolate and strawberry, and Elite whey powder chocolate. For me they have to be cold. So when I use the powders I make them in the blender and use crushed ice it is like a milk shake. If you have not started walking now try it even if it is short distances. That way it will be easier for you to walk around after your surgery. DO not lay in bed all day you do not want to get a blood clot. Plus every time the doctor came up to see me I was walking up and down the halls doing my laps and he did not make me stay a second night .
  5. The first few weeks it is tiny sips all day long. Now it is a little bigger sips all day long I am about a month out from my surgery and I need to drink more. I take a bottle of Water with me everywhere. I put one in my pocket when I walk around the block, go to the store, go over to friends house. even when I went to the movies to see the Avengers I took a bottle of my protien drink. THey want 4.25 for a bottle of water how crazy is that. So you will do fine just keep your fluids up.
  6. I had two rocks glasses with me at all times one filled with powerade and the other with a cytomax protien drink. take small sips all day long you do not want to go back to the hospital for dehydration. You an do it. I am about 3 and a half weeks post op and I need to increase my liquid intake so keep trying your best you will get through this.
  7. Have you checked to see if you are losing inches. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. So if you are building muscle you may gain weight. How do your clothes feel and fit. That is always a good judge. I have been trying to walk everyday so I do not lose muscle.
  8. I have been on pureed food since last Wednesday. I grilled a chicken breast then put it in my blender with some chicken stock. It tasted good. I have also pureed a hamburger in beef stock. Also a stuffed bell pepper with tomato sauce. So far so good. Two more days and then I am on soft foods. I can also eat scrambled eggs. only 1 egg at a time.
  9. Get started now it is good for your heart, your lungs, your overall body muscles. Remember you are doing this for you and the more you walk the better you will feel. Take it at your own pace, this week I started walking down the block and then to the other end of the block, I was home for the first day after surgery. Now at day 6 after surgery I am walking around the block 3 times and will try and do that multiple times a day. I am still off from work so I want to make it a part of my routine when I do go back to work next Wednesday. The pounds will come off the more you walk and your muscles will stay strong. You can do it. I know you have depression but being in the sun will be good for that smelling the fresh air. Your neighbors will be good to see you and they will be impressed that you are out in the neighborhood and getting healthier.
  10. You can also add a teaspoon of dijon if you like that flavor also (just reduce the salt). I am looking forward to week three diet. I am on Day 6 post op and am getting tired of 4 weeks of protien shakes Any tips for creamed Soups I have never had one before.
  11. Try something that does not have milk in it. I can not have milk until Thursday. I was just sleeved on the 18th. I am on cytomax (protien drink & gatorade) I drink them very slow 1 ounce every 15 minutes. It takes me all day to get my 20 ounces of protiens and 32 ounces of powerade.
  12. The first 2 days I had 2 little 2 ounce plastic cups one with Powerade and the other with cytomax (protien drink). I would sip one and then from the other. I also had 2 rocks glasses full with cold powerade and cytomax. It takes me all day but I get in my liquids and my protien. Just alternate from one to the other it makes it easier to get down. By day 3 I just have 2 glasses one with my protien drink and then one with powerade. Keep them cold. I just keep adding ice.
  13. Great to hear I had my surgery on Wednesday. Lucklily all my tests were clear my doc asked if I wanted to stay an extra night and I said no thank I wanted to go home and get some rest. Luckily a very good friend of mine is a RN and she is staying the weekend with us. So I have a nurse at my house for the weekend if anything happens. My doctor also gave me his cell number in case anything happens. Ok big man lets get through this together. Let's do this the safe and healthy way.
  14. Bad Request There was an error in your request. (none) Drink lots of fluids I make a pitcher of crystal light (or any type of sugar free kool aid) and a pitcher of Water. I alternate drinking one then the next one. I get in about a gallon of water in a day. I have given up sodas for the most part for about 2 months now. I have one every now and then but try and stay away from it. When I get hungry I drink a glass or water or crystal light. If I am still hungry I drink a teaspoon of pickle juice or banana pepper juice to give me some flavor. It is not that bad and it wont hurt you. Be strong remember we need to get out livers as small as possible so the doctor has plenty of room to work.
  15. I was wondering how long do you have to wait until you can drive, mow the lawn, or do some things around the house. I know the first couple of days you have to rest try and get up about every 2 hours and walk around a bit. But how long until you can actually do stuff. I think I will go crazy just sitting and watching tv or in front of my computer. I am getting sleeved on Wednesday and was just curious. I have taken off 2 weeks from work to recover and then the 3rd week I will be working half days. HELP.
  16. Good luck to everyone of us this month who is having surgery. I am scheduled to have my surgery first thing Wednesday morning. I have to be at the hospital at 5:45 am. Hopefully I will be home on Thursday night around 5pm. I am nervous looking forward to eating real food again. I have been on 3 weeks of protien shankes I will know my exact weight tomorrow when I go in for my final weigh in. What Multivitamins is everyone going to take after surgery. I am going to buy some tomorrow night. I need to call everyone in my family just to give them an update. Hopefully this time on Wednesday I will be in recovery or in my room.
  17. I also find that if you make your protien shake in a blender instead of just shaking it up in one of those plastic tupperware cups they come out very light and very easy to drink. I am on a 3 week protien shake diet and it has been easier for me to drink them when I use the blender. 12 oz of water 2 scoops of protien powder and a half of cup of crushed ice. Fills up a big cup and a half it is so light. Same amount of protien and calories.
  18. You will be fine, I am right ahead of you on the 18th. I am having my surgery done in South Carolina just outside of Myrtle Beach. Luckily for me I live right around the corner from the hospital. I am trying to get all of my ducks in a row at work as I head into my final week of work. I am doing my best drinking my protien shakes and avoiding food. Damn they show a lot of food commercials on TV. I think there are a few others right around both of our surgery dates check the role call for April. Good Luck and I will have a prayer for you as well as a couple for myself LOL.
  19. Dr, Washington is a really good surgeon and I like that he does not sugar coat things he tells you the ups and downs straight up. He will be performing my surgery on April 18th. I have insurance, one of the reasons for the discounts is he is trying to build his practice down here in South Carolina. He needs to have 125 surgeries to become a center of excellence in many insurance company's minds. He had that in New Jersey and has been in the weight loss surgery areana for over 20 years. Conway is about 13 miles from Myrtle Beach. So I wish you luck with getting a good price they also offer financing through their office. I saw some brochures on the receptionists desk. His office is in Conway hospital and all of their rooms are private rooms. They also offer monthy support groups the next support group is on April 17th.
  20. I wish you the best of luck we are going through this together. I am also being sleeved on the 18th and am a little nervous like everyone going into surgery. I am on week 2 of 3 weeks of a pure protien shake diet to get my liver as small as possible, and to get my body and mind ready for the surgery. I have been trying to walking every day or every other day to get my more weight off and to build up my lung capacity. I am 5'11 360 at the start of this, I have a doctors appt this morning so I will figure out what I weigh when I go in. We can do this we just have to be positive and diligent.
  21. One week down with the pre-op diet and down 12lbs . Get a variety of flavors for your shakes. That helps so you are not drinking the same thing day after day. I ordered my protien shakes from the vitamin shoppe online and got a good deal. 2 more weeks to go.
  22. Thanks for shaing that clip and it is a reminder that this is just a tool. I (can't speak for everyone else), know that there are issues that make me eat and if I dont change those things in coordination with exercise, and watching what I put into my body I may be right back where I am today. Overweight, diabetic, with sleep apnea, and a family history of heart disease so if I don't change I will not be around much longer. So I am glad Carnie is a positive force for all of us who have our demons and hopefully it will make us stronger. We all have to be positive and things will get better stay with the program. I know it is hard I am starting my 2nd week of pre -op dieting and am down 12 lbs and have 2 more weeks to go drinking protien shakes but I look at myself and say you have to do it. For no one else but myself.
  23. Three days down and so far so good. I have had cravings but I try to put them off. I am a diabetic and had a low the other and and had a teaspoon of peaunut butter. But Dr Washinton told me to not eat anything. He wants me to lose as much as possible since I am a high risk with all of my weight in my stomach. He wants as much room as possible to work in there. I am down about 6 lbs since Tuesday so that is a good thing. It was rough last night I was out doing returns for my wife and I was in costco wanted a hot dog really badly but bought a botle of Water instead. This morning got up walked a mile and then did some exercises on my bowflex then off to work. I would like to lose 30 lbs before the surgery. Good luck I will keep you posted.
  24. Check with your doctor they should be setting you up with a meal plan for pre op and post op. Every doctor has a different plan. Since I am so big the doctor wanted me to go on protien shakes for 3 weeks instead of his normal recommendation of 2 weeks as mentioned above to reduce the size of the liver so they have more room to work. Post Op I am on 1 week of Clear liquids. Does anyone know of a good clear liquid protien supplement. Week 2 full liquids dairy/soy based able to flow through a straw. Week three Bariatric pureed food food must be chewed to an apple sauce consistency Week 4/5 soft regular food So check with your doctor and have him give you a list of foods you should eat. I just put the basics in remember you must drink your Water and get your protiens in.
  25. I am on day two so far so good. I drank 3 protien shakes yesterday and a pitcher of crystal light and a pitcher of water. I think you lose the weight by walking to the bathroom lol I just ordered another container of chocolate and one of strawberrys and cream for a change of pace. I have an appt with my surgeon tommorow and will double check what type of protien I should be having the week after. I know it must be clear so I want to find out.
