  1. Hey RahRah, Being able to vent in this way is a healthy way to handle this pressure. My hubby got banded last year, so we have a really exciting journey ahead of us, as I have only been banded for almost two weeks. Before I was banded, I don't think I purposely sabotaged his efforts. I'm certain, however, the fact that I could eat anything, as much as I wanted, while he had a more difficult time with certain foods was not easy for him. There is nothing like the support of a significant other to provide encouragement, but always remember, you do have a community that can relate to your victories, stumbles and issues concern WLS, and that counts for a lot when you need it. Congrats on your weight loss and keep up the great work! Evelyn
  2. OMG! Tomorrow's the day. So excited, so nervous. I'm giddy. Wish me luck guys!
  3. Thanks for the responses everybody. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear I have already spoken to NYU Langone here in NYC, but I was looking for alternative if anybody else had any other places that they knew about.
  4. Mmm, this really sounds yummy. Any pictures?,lol I'm a big yelp.com fan and a NYer, (we all love to post pics of our foods, lol) which is why I asked. * embarrassed giggle = D *
  5. Hey all! I'm scheduled to be banded 7/27 in Tijuana by Dr. Corvala at Hospital Angeles. I live in NYC, do any of you have any recommendations on Dr.'s or clinics that would be able to do my fills and provide me with follow-up care if it becomes necessary? The first place I will be looking into will be NYU Langone, but I'd like choices if there's anywhere else you might know of. Thanks!

Congrats on getting the date set Missy. Being excited and nervous is normal and if you ask me a healthy response to major surgery. You certainly are not alone, you have a great big community of bandsters that have been where you are and have a wide spectrum of experiences both good and bad. When you are making a major life change such as one that the lap band affords you, there's nothing like real-life testimonials to let you know what to expect and to give you support. Good luck Missy! BTW I'm scheduled for 7/27 so I'm also excited and nervous = )
  7. Congrats on your first fill! Your input on the blogs has really helped me feel less nervous about the whole upcoming process. I'm getting banded July 27th and am trying to mentally prepare myself for the new relationship I will begin with food very soon. Up until now I can say it has been an on again-off again abusive relationship. Looking forward to forming a health relationship with it soon, lol. Sorry, for being nosey, but has your DH had WLS as well? Mine has, and I think it's going to be really special for us to go through this together.

Thanks lava and carolinagirl! Huge fan of beans, broccoli and cauliflower here. Just nervous about gas which I have read here on the forums can be quite dreadful for some. My hubby, who has been banded for almost 2 years, has never mentioned problems with gas. His struggles are hiccups, and sliming. He pb's sometimes but nothing that is super obvious. Also I think he's only been stuck 2 or 3 times at most. I'm sure not looking forward to any of that.

My husband and I went out for dinner with an acquaintance. We opted for water over drinks and no appetizers. I ordered roasted duck leg with lentils and apricots. Yummy! I made a fine choice. The food was fabulous. I have a feeling, though, when my lap band is in, I'll be bringing home more than half of it. Hey, by the way. Do any of you have problems eating beans or veggies?
  10. thank for these tips. Can't tell how excited I am to embark on what will certainly be one of the most exciting times of my life thus far, after marrying and living with my husband = ) BTW honk, love Greek food = P
  11. Awww, that is the sweetest message ever. = )
  12. Hi there! I'm getting banded in Tijuana, MX by Dr. Lopez-Corvala at Hospital Angeles. I'm so excited, and nervous! Good luck to us all!
  13. I'm trying to mentally prepare to let go of emotional eating. I know that the lap band is a tool so I'm grateful for that. How do you all deal with emotional eating? How do you tackle going out with friends to try a new restaurant or just to socialize? I'm really looking forward to truly savoring my food. I hate to say it, but I still want to be a foodie. I just want to be a much healthier and saner foodie. I've heard of people loosing their taste for some of their favorite foods with the lap band. Unfortunately, my worst enemy is butter, cream and sugar. Oy vey. But you know what? I'd still like to enjoy those just in a very modified manner. I'd like to look forward to them as a treat. I know that now, it will be up to me to really "get my mind right".
  14. Thanks so much for the friendly welcome, ladies! Well, my date is finally set. JULY 27th! OMG. I'm so frigging excited = ) , yet nervous, lol.
  15. Hello everyone, A few years ago, my husband was approved for and obtained an insurance-approved WLS. He was banded by Dr. Ren at NYU. This year I am going to be banded by Dr. Lopez in Tijuana, MX at Angeles Hospital. (obviously self-pay) I'm looking forward to making friends here so that we may help support each other during the good and bad times. I'm Ev, a former small business owner, currently returning to school to obtain my bachelor's in Secondary Math Ed. I'm excited to share this journey with my husband and with anyone who is supportive.
  16. Congrats LL! I wish you an easy surgery and speedy recovery. I'm looking forward to my lap band as well. Please keep us updated.
