bugsy reacted to Supersweetums in What Does This Surgery Do To Relationships?
In all honesty, I don't think the surgery itself does anything to relationships. If a relationship ends in light of surgery, there were problems long before that. I think a couple of things happen. I think a lot of people are already in unhealthy relationships, but they stay because they have such low self worth that they think it is the best they can do. After surgery, we start to gain more confidence and feel better about ourselves. In turn, people end of leaving their significant other because they realize they are worth so much more.
In your case, I think your husband is just using it as an excuse. If he truly loved and respected you, he would have been there for you instead of fooling around on you. I agree that counseling is a good route, but staying together just for your daughter's sake is never a good way to go. How often do we hear people saying they stayed together for the children, when, in reality, it was the worst thing for them.
My husband has been nothing but supportive and my biggest cheerleader. He loved me at my heaviest and he loves me now. Best of luck with everything and do some deep soul searching to figure out what is best for everyone, including yourself!

I too am just a month out from surgery. I have lost 32 pound since my March 28th pre-op. Since surgery, after the first week after surgery, I too feel like the loss is crawling. I was having a pity party myself and my mom (banded in 09) reminded me it's not a sprint, its a marathon. The doctor warned my mom that there would be some post-op depression issues and questioning why I did what I did. A life long problem of mine is that I always question whether I am good enough or doing good enough. I think we all face the issues surrounding why is this so slow, BUT when you think about it, when's the last time you lost that much weight in that short of a time period?
We can do this!! One day at a time.

I'm religious about waiting 30 minutes after eating before drinking. My first incident with getting sick happened because I ate pasta and bread, then took a drink right after eating. It was a shame to donate that good food back to Carrabas' parking lot!

Gone? The Attitudes adjusted...everyone on this forum is friendly and willing to offer their experience, support, and opinions. Noone here can offer medical advice nor say what may be right for everyone. They can only offer up what they personally have experienced or have knowledge of. So attacking someone for offering what is exactly the point of this site was rude and unacceptable. All opinions should be read with your own physicians advice in mind. If a post is made that you don't care for, u are not required to respond to it or berate the person offering it. We are all friends in the same boat from all different walks of life and different surgeons. Everyone here deserves kindness and respect. Its what I have found VST to be grounded upon. Love all you guys here. You've become my comfort, my teachers and my friends.

    Pre- op, my fears:
I will never be able to eat like a Normal person again
I will miss my favorite foods
I can't possibly eat so much Protein
I am afraid of the nausea
I am afraid of the pain
I am afraid of dying under anesthesia
I am afraid of the surgeon damaging my liver
I am afraid of waking up after anesthesia and being really nauseous and sick
I am afraid of a leak
I am afraid of my tastes changing
I am afraid that I will have an obstruction
I am afraid of contracting a hospital born virus
I am afraid my energy will never return
    POST OP TRUTHS:
2 weeks out and I am eating and tolerating GOOD food
There is nothing so far that I couldn't eat: panera Soups, chili, lobster, portabella mushrooms, bean Soup with cheese and sour cream
I make protein a priority, 50 grams (shake plus a Greek yogurt by noon)
I haven't had 1 nauseous moment except for right after surgery and zofran fixed that
The pain was a 2 out of 10. I was off the Diluadid drip the next day and never took the hydro condone
Once home. I did feel some heaviness in my lower belly and the gas was no biggie. I walked 3 hrs after surgery a d just kept walking
Anesthesia was a brainer. The anesthesiologist asked me about my job and then told me it was over! They were awesome
I woke up feeling totally fine. A little discomfort, but coherent and not in pain
Had a leak test in the hospital and all clear
My tastes have changed, but for the better. Too sweet turns me off
Everything is moving through the system as planned...no obstruction
Wounds healed in a few days, was s.epping on my belly by day 3
2 weeks out and I am doing the revlon run walk in NYC
So happy with how I feel and food has been deprioritized from my mind. I do get craving and I do feel genuine hunger, but I am able to address it. I ate cheese and crackers for dinner tonight...I had a yearning for it and i made it work.
To anyone debating...go for it! I can't tell you how your mind and body change for the good once your on the losers bench!

Hi, I had my Sleeve on the same day too May 7th. Am fed up with juices & broth, I tried Slim a soup it was horrible and today tried the Cup a soup it was yummy (more calories). Don't think I can last for a month on liquids as my doctor wants, I want to start on mushys (purée). How many kilo grams or pounds did u loose in the first week? I lost 5 kg.
