  4. Hellooooooo..... Your pre-op stuff sounds like mine. It's not so much how much you weigh but that you are taking the steps to change it to be a healthier person. My mom was very obese and unhealthy. She passed away at 61 because she choose to remain unhealthy. I didn't want to be the person she had become. I was originally going for the sleeve but due to my hernia, I have to have bypass. I hope I can be disciplined enough to follow all the rules. From what I hear, you have to be because of the consequences!
  5. Susan, I have to do a ten day full liquid diet. I will be on clear liquid while in the hospital and go home on full liquids. I will continue that until my two week follow up. So all together almost a month of liquid =( I can only have 2 protein shakes a day for the pre-op phase. I can have skim milk, light yogurt, no sugar added fudgesicles in moderation. Broth, sugar free beverages, sf Popsicles and Jello in any amount. I have found a tea that I really like, the brand is 4C. It's artificially sweetened and caffeine free. Btw, the name is Jessica. It's nice to meet ya!
  6. lol... I'll sleep on it! If you don't mind me asking, what is your current weight? Our day will come....

  8. That stinks! I started this whole process May 31, 2011. I didn't realize at the time that with my insurance I had to pay all my surgeon visits up front and wait to be reimbursed after approval! So I had to wait and start over Jan this year. Instead of waiting to submit everything at once, I asked for a copy of everything as I completed it and sent it on my own. I was assigned a bariatric nurse and continued to fax the items in. My final consult with my surgeon was July 10. I received a letter in the mail the 3rd week in July saying it was denied due to my psychological not being done by a psychologist(it was done by a licensed psychological examiner.) Filed grievance, got my approval on Aug 6. Hang in there.... It will happen! I felt like framing my approval letter! I waited so long from the actual start a year and a half ago! Good luck and keep us posted! God bless....

  10. Anyone else have a surgery date set for September? Mine is Sept 19.
  11. Congratulations on your date! My surgery is Sept 19. We could be bypass buddies...lol. All my testing is done. Do you have to do a pre-op liquid diet?
  12. My surgery is Sept 19. We get to go through this together! I also had to have a gb ultrasound. They do this because if there is any indication that you have stones, they will remove your gallbladder during surgery. Dramatic weightloss tends to cause stones. A lot of times people end up having to have it removed later on. Good luck with everything! It took me a year and a half to get a date, needless to say, I'm ready! Do you have to do a pre-op diet? If so, how long?
  13. Thanks everyone!!! It's so encouraging to have support on here.
  14. I just got my approval letter today. Woo Hoo!! I've been at this for a year and a half now! I have several local friends that have had some type of wls, everything from banding to bypass. For all of you that have been there already, IF YOU COULD GIVE ONLY ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR THE JOURNEY AHEAD, WHAT WOULD IT BE???
  15. Hello from TN! I am 33, 5'1" and weigh 215. I have been working towards this for over a year now. I had my final consult yesterday with Dr.Watson in Johnson City, TN. This whole time I have been preparing for the sleeve. I was informed that the sleeve wasn't a good option for me due to a hiatal hernia. I was kinda scared when I got the news. So now I have to have a different frame of mind. It's just hard when you've been expecting one thing and then everything changes. All I know is I'm ready! Just waiting for insurance approval now. This is a great site. I've been on vertical sleeve talk for a while. Looking forward to making some good friends on here!
