  1. Anyone else getting banded in January? I'm scheduled for January 23rd. It all feels so real now that a date has been set.

    Recovery after band removal

I've been going through this since I got my band. I can't tolerate any fill at all and even empty my band tends to tighten up so much that I can't even get liquids down for days at a time. I have a neuro disorder that flares up if I'm not properly hydrated so this has been a nightmare only 8 months post band. All my tests come back normal -- no slip, no erosion, swallowing looks fine, but doc still put me on levsin for esophageal spasms as a last ditch effort before it comes out. I'm on liquids now and in queue for removal surgery in the next few weeks.
  3. I'm not super strict with my eating, but I have way more control than I did in the past and I exercise like crazy most days so it balances out.

    January 2013 Bandsters!

I've only lost 17 lbs since surgery on 1/23 (31 lbs since pre-op diet/49 lbs overall). I'm reeeeeally struggling. I was filled with 4cc during surgery and because of some bowel issues, Water retention (which caused me to itch nonstop) and bloating which caused made it impossible for me to take my medication, my surgeon removed about 3.5 cc two weeks post op. Since then I've been hungry as hell. My food choices are bad, not terrible, but bad. I'm making way better choices than before but I know I'm not on the right track. The only thing that has kept the pounds off is exercising 50 minutes per day and drinking a lot of water. I had a 2cc fill 2 weeks ago and I go back for another one on April 3. Help! If anyone has been where I am now, please tell me how you were able to get back on track.

    January 2013 Bandsters!

I got banded on January 23rd. My first fill is scheduled for February 27th. I have quite a bit of restriction with the bit of fluid that is currently in my band. I haven't been really hungry at all. I'm forcing myself to get in three meals and when I do, I feel too full. With that being said, I was down 14 pounds since surgery (28 since the pre-op diet and 46 down from my highest ever), but I've gained 4 pounds since starting soft food on Wednesday?!?!? So annoying

    January 2013 Bandsters!

Yay babykins! Welcome to the other side. I'm glad you're feeling well!
  9. Hi, I'm 3 days post op (I also had a hiatal hernia repair) and I'm in excruciating pain on my left side. i also have a lot of gas. I get up and walk around my building every few hours even in the middle of the night. I can't sleep through the night. I have been taking my pain pills, however they only succeeding knocking me out or numbing my senses for a few hours. I called my surgeon's office and they said it's gas which should lessen once I have a bm. Per their instructions, I have been sipping watered down prune juice to try to force a bm and I have been using Gas-X chewables and strips, drinking hot chamomile tea regularly and my heat pad is on my stomach around the clock except when I'm up walking. I also have a Snoggle full body pillow for sleeping. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else experienced this much pain a few days out? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

2 days post op and sad

I totally feel your pain Annie. I was banded Wednesday and was miserable until just a day or two ago. I was in tears because the pain was so bad and I was questioning my choice. It does get better. Make sure to drink, walk and breathe.

3 Days post op in PAIN!

Omg I feel so much better. I took a dose of Milk of Magnesia and went down for a nap. When I woke up I immediately felt better and I had a bm finally! I still have gas pains, but I can tolerate this level of pain. Thank you for all the suggestions and kind words. I only know one person who is banded and she's not really a good source of info so it's great to have this community to lean on for advice, and just to vent as needed. SueBee- I bought fiber powder pre-op, but I was scared to take it because I read that we shouldn't take it so soon post op. Did you have any problems with it? Thanks again!
  12. I just sent my boyfriend out for Miralax and Milk of Magnesia. If one doesn't work, I'll try the other. This pain is just.....

3 Days post op in PAIN!

Thank you both for the reassurance. I keep hearing all these stories about people having little to no pain and returning to work a few days after surgery. I just want to make sure that I'm not doing anything to hinder my recovery. I'm miserable right now and crying because this pain has convinced me that I made the wrong decision.

    January 2013 Bandsters!

I have a temperpedic and I don't have any problems getting up. Before I was discharged the nurses showed me how to get up from the bed using a pillow to support my belly. So far so good. I don't have a recliner in my apartment and my couch isn't a "comfy" couch so my bed is my only option. You'll be fine.
  15. Believe me Chrissy, I was in tears after the 3rd stick. I'm sorry that you had to go through something similar. I have had multiple strokes. I have a neurological disorder called moyamoya disease which causes strokes. Fortunately it's not obesity related, but I was almost denied the only effective treatment, an STA-MCA bypass (brain surgery) because I'm obese. That is what made me seriously consider WLS. So here I am exactly 2 years and 11 months after brain surgery on my way to a healthy and normal weight. God is good. I just spoke with my surgeon's office to find out what I can do to try to bring on a bm. They told me to sip watered down prune juice. I won't be able to get any until later, meanwhile I'm still in A LOT of pain.
  16. I was in the hospital after one of my strokes in 2009 and had they had to stick me 18 times in order to get enough blood for the tests my doc ordered. Each person on the floor tried 3 times then they called the IV team who also took 3 tries until they were finally able to get it. My veins are small and when the needle goes in, they usually collapse. How is everyone feeling today? I'm still in a lot of pain (mostly gas) and I haven't had a bm yet. I still manage to get up to walk a bit, which is helping a little, but I still can't manage to get anything down except a few sips of tea and Water.
  17. Ladie was banded on Monday. I'm sorry you had to go through that with the IV, Chrissy. It all worked out in the end and we are all on the other side now! Go us!
