  1. Julia, did you and your friend take 2 seperate suitcases??? Im supose they just gave your friend all your belongings before surgery???
  2. I'm a food addict! I bing eat all the time, I don't have to be hungry to eat! I can be good on a diet for a few days, then I find myself going to the store to buy a pack of some sort of cookie or brownie and eating the entire thing!!! Don't know why, I just do! The mental addiction will be the hardest part in my opinion!
  3. Thanks so much! Just love the support and great words of advise from this forum!!! Joni...that really sets my mind at ease!
  4. Thanks Dorrie! Game plan so far is to STOP taking them 2 weeks prior (that means today), tons of water to flush system and no more social drinking! Luckily my pre-op diet isnt too harsh since I'm a self payer but I plan to start it today as well beause I want to be in tip top form!!!
  5. So, I am one of those people with back problems. Long story short, I've been going to the Dr. for the past 6-8 months and receiving spinal steriod injections as treatment. I have also been taking hydrocodone for the past 6 months or so as pain management. Sometimes 1 a day, sometimes 2-3 depending on pain, sometimes none. I've read a couple war stories about how VSG will be hard on my liver and I'm now worried that the surgery + drug combo may give me trouble. I'm having surgery in Mexico on May 31st and I made sure to list the hydros as part of my current medications. Doctor didn't seem to be too worried. Anyone have any thoughts on this? As a side note: I'm a weekend drinker. Rarely hard alcohol, usually just beer....
  6. One more thing I've wondered about......SHOPPING!!! I AM A SELF PROCLAIMED SHOPPING ADDITCT!!! I l know that we will be taken shopping toward the end of our visit. What kinds of shops? I am really looking forward to this part of the journey! I just hope I feel like going!!!
  7. I am wondering which will be the best after surgery. On one hand you have the recovery house which will tend to every need you have, feed you IF you can drink anything, give you plenty of meds to ease your pain, however, I really worry about the comfort of the guest I will be taking. They also say the recovery house can be crowded and loud at times too. The hotel is the other option....ahhhh....peace and serinity for recovery but no nurses by your side and I think you may have to load up and travel back and forth to the recovery house twice daily for meds. Can anyone offer advise on this?
  8. I too am scheduled with Dr. Almanza in just 2 short weeks. Super excited! I have lived and breathed to research this man and his abilities! I am certain that he is a great choice and I will be in good hands! There are several threads and social groups dedicated to Dr. Almanza patients. I would advise you to research them, read the patient stories and go with your gut!
  9. Lissa, this is music to my ears!!! I also travel for work through the week and find it hard to make good choices pre-op so I'm fairly certain those choices will be even worse post op! I've always gotten a room with a fridge but I've only used it for leftovers from the huge meal I just ate up till now! Love the protein bar idea, especially on those long 20 hour flights I've been known to do! Thanks for the tips!!!

  22. Hi Sandy....this is also Sandi. I'm so glad you are doing this well after surgery!!! I have been wondering what to expect when I come home from surgery. Ya see...I'm single and live by myself. I was wondering if I will need to have someone come stay with me for a few days or if I'll be able to manage on my own? They plan on keeping me in the hospital for 3 days. I'm supposed to fly from San Diego back to Houston on the 4th day.....I figured if I can fly, I should be ok. What do you think? Sandi
