Almost Here...
I too was told that I could swallow my pills whole. Two of my pills are fairly large too (Omeprazole capsule & Celebrex caplet) I think Joni is absolutely right that it's surgeons choice! Glad to see you're back Sheila Bless your heart for doing your recovery with a 4 yr old!! I go back to work tonight so am a bit nervous...but what better job to be at than a hospital ER! I went onto Eggface and am so looking forward to when I can have cucumbers....she has amazing ideas for cucumber sandwiches!

Almost Here...
I am really enjoying my tablespoon of egg salad and tablespoon of cottage cheese today. It's amazing how fast it fills me up..love it! I think the reason they are allowing pasta is because it's a whole wheat and you would probably need to really overcook it...to the squishy point. I bought a box of Annie's organic whole wheat shells with white cheese sauce and surprisingly it has like 10 grams of protein per serving (even though there's no way I could get in a whole serving) I thought I could make that someday and add some tuna to it and get a decent amount of protein. I remember my surgeon telling me that nothing is "off limits" it's just that I need to find healthy alternatives to old favorites and if I just have to have an old favorite...have just a little bit, that it's all about portions and exercise and that the sleeve will make the portion part much easier! Have a great day!

Speaking of nap....that is what I am planning on doing now. I need to get my sleep pattern back to being up all night because I was cleared by my surgeon to return to work Thursday evening. I work 7p-7a in the ER as a secretary and now I'm used to sleeping like normal people....really gotta change that! Finally had my first BM today too, was getting a bit nervous that it had been since the 22nd, but all is well once again Kellie, I totally understand about that delicious egg. I had a very small farm fresh soft poached egg this morning and it was amazing! For lunch I had 1 T. applesauce & 1 T. cottage cheese, for Dinner 1 T. mashed potatoes and 1 T. tuna. At lunchtime I intended on trying 2T cottage cheese with that applesauce but I got full, so stopped...Love it! Gonna check out eggface, I could use some new recipes. Great hearing how you are all doing! Kellie...here are some of the allowances for my Phase 2 of the post op diet...called "Soft, Moist, Mushy" Cream of Wheat Eggs mashed potatoes (white or sweet) applesauce canned tuna or chicken (chew chew chew to make mushy) yogurt pudding overcooked whole wheat pasta peanut butter cottage cheese (can add a touch of sugar free jelly to it...mmmmm) smashed up (cooked) veggies like broccoli, peas, grean beans Hope this helps

Going Back To Work
I was sleeved on 4/23/12 and I should be going back to work 5/3/12. I work in an ER as the unit secretary so I don't have a ton of bending & twisting to do. I work with fantastic people and they all know what I have had done and I'm more than sure they would give me a hand if I need it. You say you're an EMT....then wouldn't that require lifting & patients?? If so, then I think that is too soon, but go by what your surgeon tells you..Good Luck!

Almost Here...
I love to hear everybody's experiences...I have been doing ok with getting out of bed by myself, I scooch over to the edge, put my feet on the floor, bring one arm across my stomach to the other arm and push myself into an upright position, take a moment and then stand...it's working and has not caused me any pain. The only thing I have for pain is Celebrex...wish I could take something stronger sometimes but narcotics make me vomit really bad, they always have You're right Joni...my postop diet does seem really strict, but they way I feel after that 2-3 oz of liquid protein, I will stick to it until day 8. I can't tell if the feeling is full or bloated...maybe both? Anyone find out how many staples were used for your stomach?
-
Don't Take It So Seriously And I Promise To Do The Same
LMAO...thanks for the laugh!

Almost Here...
Joni...Notime...I was getting worried about you, sooo glad you both checked in and very thankful we are all doing okay. Wow, Joni...I am only allowed liquid protein right now, I can't go onto yogurt or mashed potatoes until day 8...then I am really looking forward to a scrambled egg...lol I was also up on my weight when I got home but understand it to be from the saline that I was filled with. My surgeon does the leak test before he completes the surgery..they fill you up with saline and look for bubbles, then the body needs to absorb all that extra fluid which is why my weight was up. Showered today and took off the bandages...damn, I look beaten up, but other than gas pains I am feeling pretty good. You know I forgot to ask my surgeon how many staples are inside of me...anyone know?

New Here...
HI Moonrisen...welcome to the forum! I too am soo thankful for everything that people share on here. I am still fairly new, I just had my surgery Monday and am now home recovering!

Almost Here...
I got to go home Wednesday morning and I passed the protein challenge of 2 oz and it stayed down. I am up to 3 oz now about every 4 hours and trying to make myself get my water in, yesterday I only took in 36oz of water, but so far today I am at 28 oz and it's only noon here, so hoping for the best. I got to take off the wound dressings today and wow, I am soo bruised, but they all look good. One is a bit red, but not too awful bad so will just keep an eye on it. No more vomiting since day 1 and I am sleeping better...not as sore or gassy as I was, but still a bit uncomfortable. Can't wait to hear from the rest of you! Hope you are all doing great!

I like the idea of thinning out the potatoes for soup....will definitely use that idea plus the strained cream of mushroom soup (love that idea). Thanks Ladies! Thanks for the advice on concentrating on reminding myself why I'm doing this...I work in an Emergency Roon so we see the bad outcomes or the noncompliant patients, so I have seen a few things that scare me, but I know I will be compliant so I shouldn't put so much energy into worrying. What are you taking to the hospital? How long were you told that you would be there?

Almost Here...
Hi everyone...Joni, thanks for making a group just for us I am so excited that our day is almost here, but I gotta tell ya, I'm scared! I haven't been able to sleep very well either because I feel like I'm second quessing myself and wondering if I'm making a mistake....but deep down, I know this is the right thing to do, I just can't seem to clear my head to get some rest. I also went and had a manicure, pedicure and a haircut so that I won't be laying in the hospital bed staring at my ugly feet! I have not gone to the store yet to get anything since the first week is the protien phase and I just got my shipment from Unjury.com. I figure after that, I will go to the store. What all did you buy for your post op?
-
Ten Month Comparison
Congratulations......You should be so proud of yourself! You look AMAZING!!!
-
Speaking Of Protein...
Unjury is excellent too!
